Working as a sniper platoon is a vital part of preparing for future operations - they need to work together to get into an enemy position without being seen and taking the vital shot. In the second of our exclusive 'Sniper School' reports, we join aspiring sniper instructors during rural and urban training and hear what it means to take the deadly shot.

All infantry regiments and the formation reconnaissance (light) cavalry regiments are able to attend the sniper cadre. The guards, paras and household cavalry does theres down south, the rest of the infantry do there is wales and the marines have there own course.

This is so weird... The best person to TEACH people to be snipers is someone with ACTUAL sniper experience.... This video suggests these people are not smipers at all, and are passing on third hand skills to others... Worst kind of teacher there is.
Rubbish comment. The narration clearly states at the start of the video that it's snipers training to become instructors. It doesn't say there are no instructors. As for your 'third hand' skills comment how do you know if any of the participants in this video, instructors or not, have any actual combat experience doing this? what's the word for the deliberate and lawful killing of one person by another?
It's called "combat".
It’s called SpEtZnAz. JK.
Why would you even watch this video you absolute sausage?
Since the UK government has eliminated any chance of learning any basic level of marksmen prior to entering military service. Via draconian gun laws. By forcing a prohibition on gun ownership that would allow that knowledge to be known prior to military service. Just how much of a failure rate is in UK sniper schools? Seems no one entering the British Army has very much of a background with shooting. How many people in the UK have any knowledge of MOA or a Mil-radian is when used for marksmanship activities? This capability is eccentual to a sniper course. The capabilities of your national defense forces are jepordized by your liberal social policies. Combat happens in seconds. Taking months to prepare civilians for military service is not an option.
Fully agree
Duly noted.
The people applying for sniper training are not recruits. They are trained infantryman with a few years under their belts. The technical aspects of long range shooting are taught on the course. As long as the student is a decent shot and are able to learn then they pick thus stuff up. It is more important to have a decent grasp of the fundamentals, be fit and be above average intelligence than to have an in depth, technical knowledge of all things shooty. A fit and motivated soldier who is willing to learn us much more useful than a random guy who knows the ins and outs of a ballistics table.
The basic qual for this course involves shoots out to 1100m, and very few fail on shooting. It is the other stuff, particularly stalking, that people fail on.
You sound lile a right bell end who actually knows nothing about the soldiers on this course. The fact that you think they're raw recruits totally invalidates your comments.
To those so concerned. Did anyone not read the paragraphs concerning raw recruits? In the US military both the US Army and the US Marines have had to increase the amount rifle marksmanship training time for basic training. Why? The affect of certain US states with very restrictive gun laws have on the knowledge of firearms use prior to military service. I can only see the UK having the same problems due to the draconian gun laws in the UK. Just how many recruits just off the street ever did anything with a firearm in the UK? Especially from larger cities such as London.
In earlier days in the American history most people had to hunt just to get food. If you could not successfully take that animal for food, you starved. Add the fact that if you missed you lost the lead for another bullet. The lead ball was removed from the carcass of the animal, then remolded for reuse. So you got very good with marksmanship.
Yes, I do know about military service. Spent seven years as an infantryman in the US Army. I seen the poor performance of American soldiers from New York City and Los Angeles, California metro areas. Firearms expeariance is very limited with recruits from these areas.
So how much can someone with very little prior experience advance to higher levels so quickly? Sniper schools in the American military and law enforcement departments have a considerable drop out rates for those so unprepared.
I hear many UK comments about "becoming a sniper" in the UK forces. Many just say be a good soldier and you will be recommended. Shining shoes and wearing starched uniform shirts every day does not make you "good in the woods." Getting muddy and dirty developing military skills on a daily basis does. As a suggestion for those desiring to enter a sniper training for the UK forces and looking for some skills development. There is a series of lessons on UA-cam called "Sniper 101." You will learn a lot of information. Most of which you will not find in the UK.
My original comment is directed towards the citizens of the UK that tolerate the draconian gun laws of your government.
If your wondering, I was a heavy mortar crewman for my entire enlistment in the American Army. Which means those that can calculate vectors and deflections nessessary for mortar gunnery. Mortar crewmen do not easily change for any other job in the American military. A hard to find skill. Especially for the M-30, 4.2-inch mortar that I worked on. What is currently used, the 120mm mortar, is just too easy. Computers were not available in my day.
And as allways, if you don't like my comments, why do you read them? And spend any amount of time responding?
No worries about Terror organizations gaining anything from this mediocre presentation. No tech details explained...except in a ho-hum mundane presentation in how marksmen engage the enemy in urban or field environ. Poorly presented. Only lesson learned is how to produce mediocrity in a politically correct and pandering society while wannabee sophistication falls flat...for a video production team.
Whenever I hear the word sniper, I just think of the Boers.
