"Who are the brave? Those who go to war.
Who are the brave? Those who fight no more.
Those who gave their lives, protecting freedom’s shore.
Who are the brave? Those who serve in war.
Who are the brave? Those who live with pain.

Something I don't think many 'white' people forget or simply don't realise is just how much we as black people contributed to the war effort (even though that generation were vehemently opposed to permitting blacks/negroes the opportunity to fight) but also our respect and gratitude by the astounding sacrifice of those millions of men (incl. Russian, Polish, scandanavians Indian, Indonesian) who collectively stopped the Nazi war machine.

This very scene is embellished. He didn't run right across German lines but rather in the middle of German and American lines, aka no man's land. Still an absolutely and arguably more badass feat but yea, there's definitely lots of embellishments

In the Band of Brothers series, there are exactly 2 scenes that steal the whole show - even though there are many more that are still very memorable.
    1. This scene. Spears should have gotten the MOH for such a display of pure bravery.
    2. Winters' run across the field at the Crossroads. It's hard for most of us to imagine what that exactly means - as far as he knew, the Germans were aware of the American unit and were preparing to attack. Still he ran across open territory - alone - in order to engage the enemy. Truly a remarkable act of pure heroism. (BTW, the _reason_ he told the rest of his men to wait for the smoke was because he assumed the Germans would try to cut him down, so he wanted the men to wait in the trench so they could return fire once the Germans zeroed in on him.)

I've done this in video games, running through behind enemy spawn areas and not getting shot because they don't expect you to be there. So I can see the psychological behind it. It's something you just don't expect and don't know how to react to it. But to do it in real life under those circumstances is wild, insane stuff. What a soldier he was.

My grandpa and my dad, who fought in Vietnam, will forever be my heroes and even though they are now gone, they set the bar high for what it means to the an American.

From what I've heard in that movie they left out some of the most amazing acts in the movie that Desmond Doss did during the battle because they thought people would think it was bullshit if they saw it in the movie.
