Joey Ferris Exactly........ if you move to Alaska..... they are just as happy there, as long as the owner or family is there. Extremely social animal, needs to be part of the family and inside home. Having said that, no they don’t do well outside in cold for hours at a time, just enough to get exercise.
I love hearing people talk about their dobermans. I'm not learning anything new but the love people have for dobies is so sweet to watch. This is the best breed, hands down.
They are but on the flip side it makes losing them heartbreaking! I lost mine to DCM yesterday and its been the most devastating I've had to deal with. Love your dobbie!
I own a Doberman I use to have a Rottweiler and I sold him Becuze he was AGGRESSIVE and my Doberman is so NICE and he plays a lot with me and not AGGRESSIVE I think he is 12 ears old
Best dog I've EVER had was a red Doberman that I rescued from a cruel owner as a puppy! I don't even classify her as a dog - she was truly my best friend. And so gentle & protective of our son when he was little! She was over 100 pounds of muscle & love. And so funny, with an actual sense of humor. 😊 She's been gone more than 25 years and I still think of her almost every day.
Yep, dobies really like their people. Always wants to be around them. Always complaining when they can't get attention. Bullying their way onto couches. Sleeping on beds they aren't supposed to. Always in your face suffocating you! Good bye personal space! Then when they leave you, you realize that it was you who is bonded to them. I, for some reason, still think I'm gonna see my dobies, who have passed, come running around the corner with their goofy tongue lolling grins everyday. If you are on the fence about getting a dobie, be careful. The depth of attachment to the dog will be indescribable.
ya mine suffocates me too. due to a recent move i was separated from her for about 3 months. after the first week i was more depressed that i had been in 10 yrs..when we bought a house built a fence and drove back to our previous city to get her..she was overjoyed n frantic to see me and i cried all my eye makeup off. dont know why i put it on at the hotel i was so teary ha a hard time applying it in the first place!
My dobie is SUPER possessive. I'm a paraplegic and in a wheelchair. When my wife bends down to hug me my dobie, Akela, barks, jumps on her and wedges her way in between us. She sleeps in our bed with us and loves to jump up on my lap.....well, my lap, my stomach and my chest, and she sleeps on me. She hates to be alone. She knows whenever we're getting ready to leave and she starts whining before we ever leave. She's funny. Doberman's are the 5th smartest breed and, in my opinion, they are the most beautiful and majestic breed on the planet......bar none!!!!! That being said, I have owned 4 dobies, all were European dobermans so they were all larger than the "average" American doberman. The first was absolutely massive, close to 120lbs so I would LOVE to see a 140lb doberman that wasn't fat. I was in the Army at the time and bought him from a guy who had just got back from Germany where he bought this doberman, Zeus. I'm not saying it's not possible to have a 140lb doberman that's not overweight just VERY rare at best. I guess I'm from Missouri.....Show Me. I will say this, many doberman's don't look fat if compared to other dogs because they go straight back from their ribs to their hindquarters but dobermans are part greyhound and are supposed to have very slender waists. They may not look fat but if they don't trim down behind their ribs they are fatter than they are supposed to be.
a b I lost my first Dobie at 16 years of age back in 2010 and that loss *never* left me. Dutchess was literally the best dog I was ever blessed to have in my life. Fast forward to December 20th 2016, I rescued a 4 year old female named Roxy she was abused and bred to exhaustion by an Amish puppy mill. When I went to the shelter they said they had one of the two available for adoption and would I like to meet her. I said yes and they went back and let her out and I got down on the ground and Roxy rounded the corner and ran straight to me and gave me a big wet kiss! It was meant to be! Flash forward four months and she has settled in so well! every day she comes out her shell more and more and it just puts my soul at ease and makes me smile. She is stuck to my hip and when I move she's my shadow. I swear shes like Dutchess reincarnated. Such a gentle soul and such a good girl! No doubt about it, Dobermans for life!
I had a doberman/rottweiler mix as a kid. We had Emma outside often when the weather was nice, and she actually really enjoyed it. She LOVED to play with snow, too. We'd toss handfuls of snow to her and she'd eat it middair. But it depends on the dog, and she was a mix. Very powerful dog, fiercely protective, but also super tolerant and great with children.
Joey Ferris is awesome! Joey- thank you for letting everyone see a glimpse into the realities of owning a Doberman (the good and the ugly). Actually, you've inspired me to do what I can to spread the word about what a wonderful, amazing dog the Doberman Pinscher really is! I'm spreading the word on my end as best I can, you keep up the good work on your end... let's let the world know what amazing dogs these are!!! Other people need to get the same joy that we do from our dogs every day.
I have owned five Dobermans and you are correct they are not an outdoor dog, winter and summer. They are the best dogs ever! They make a great indoor dog. One could not ask for a better and more loving loyal companion.
People commenting over your lack of "control" over the dog for hurting your girlfriend don't really understand the power of these animals and how they can hurt without remotely meaning to. My mother's doberman opened a gash on my brow (from which I bled profusely) not with malice, but because I was getting a bit too cheeky with him and he raised his head into mine. We were playing and I got hurt. These are exceptionally powerful animals even for their size. It never once occurred to me to blame the dog for it, or think it was a failure of training.
Yea and idc what anyone says but when any male dog is about to breed it doesn’t matter how much training they’ve had. They are crazy and all rules go out the window.
Yeah, I've gone to pick up a ball at the same time my large American Staffordshire male lifted his head up and was bashed in the eye with his hard skull. My mom, a large woman, was clipped by our border collie/lab who was doing zoomies and misjudged the distance and sent her flying backwards. I have a long scar on my leg from a dewclaw scratch that my skin didn't heal properly. I've tripped over my dogs sooooo many times, especially the black ones that I don't see in the dark. Accidents happen!
@@ezraturner4588 and I have a friend that has a kangal that would destroy your baby Shepherd and seconds they are bred to kill wolves German Shepherd are nothing LOL also says my Smith & Wesson
We had our first Dobie for 17 years . When it came to graduation for off leash control she pinched me in the butt never before or after that . She was that one dog you love and miss forever.
I’ve got a 10 week old Doberman puppy and I’m hoping it will be my running companion one day with some easy 5ish mile runs. I guess this answers my question of whether or not he can handle that kind of distance
Great dog! We have had Dobes for years and have found although they do the tricks, I feel that they don't like doing them, they just indulge the human. LOL. I noticed him looking round every now and again as if no matter what trick he is doing, he is always in guard mode. There is no doubt you have got a great Dobe there! We trained ours by using a gun dog whistle and it works a treat, they are the smartest dogs on the planet. Sadly all of my Dobes are gone now, however, watching your video has made me happy and sad at the same time. I wish I could get another one, but, I feel I am too old now as I am nearly 65. Thank you for posting, it warmed my heart. Greetings from Scotland.
I wonder about the age thing too. I am 47 now. I will have another dog at some point, but I wonder at what age it is a disservice to the dog because my activity level won't be very high? Like when iis it no longer "fair" to get a new puppy? I guess you can always rescue a senior dog and maybe get one that is content laying around in it's golden years, but then you will only have a year or two with the pup before it'll probably pass. I just wonder what age should be the cut off for the human to consider a new pup (plus you have to consider if you'll be around their whole life or if they will need possible alternate arrangements made in the event of YOUR death).
@@mazzy2121 I am 53 year old active gal, my boy is 8 and I'm about to adopt an additional 2 year old Dobie. You're as young or old as you allow yourself to be. Adopt one out of the puppy stage and be prepared to meet the best companion and friend you've ever had. This is the smartest, loyal and sensitive breed period! And no people do not keep your doberman's outside they have no secondary coat, I cannot stress this enough as these are inside family pets.
Please adopt a senior dog! There's one out there who needs you, and there are so many health benefits to having a dog, plus you would be saving a life! Theres plenty of elderly couch potato puppers, and they have a hard time finding homes. Please please consider!
I've grew up with Dobies and my parents bred them, I absolutely love them. They are affectionate , loyal, protective and yes, they just don't like certain people!
Thank you for your honesty, people need to be aware of these facts. Dobermanns are often called "the human dog,",and it's true, they are aware of human emotions and needs, and reciprocate in kind. The more you put into them the more you get out. They don't need to be shouted at when training , they can be trained using positive reinforcement, patience and understanding . Training is very very important, as they can be strong willed and stubborn and can get bored easily, training keeps them on their toes, the mental discipline developers so that they can make the correct decisions for themselves , and they can anticipate what you expect of them. They don't like to be ignored and make great family members. I have two and they are the best dogs, so faithful, kind and loving . The main disease to look out for in Europe and the U.K. now is DCM, (Dilated Cardio myopathy), it is a heart disease which is a killer,. When choosing a breeder please make sure that the breeder tests for Dcm, von wilderbrands disease and wobblers syndrome. I cannot stress this , enough, as so many uk dogs are dying young of Dcm and it's heartbreaking . Dobermanns are such special dogs, and are not suitable for time poor people, they require good amounts of exercise and love, but if you have the time and patience and a good sense of humour, they are the best dogs in the world.
I have 2 AMAZING European Doberman Pinschers and my eyes aren’t big enough to see them. Start training as soon as they touch your hands! They are high energy dogs, lovable and the epitome of loyalty. I’m hooked! Thanks for sharing!
Great video that represents the breed very accurately and what an amazing animal. My Dobie was an incredible dog. He was a 92lb. athlete in his prime, could shake hands with whichever paw you asked for (left or right), loved children and had the most inane sense of empathy I've ever seen in a pet. He could read my emotions at all times. Thanks again for the video. It brought back some great memories!
Dobbies cannot be left outside!!! They have no fur and dont ever grow a winter coat!!! So sad. Also its true, dobbes do not ever want to be away from their families.
@Mark Richardson How is that stupid? The maker of this video is the stupid idiot. Knows nothing about dogs. Not to mention lacks any common sense. You should not have to look up that such a dog is not made for cold weather nor that any dog likes to be locked up alone outside. All dogs live in packs
I'm five minutes into this and laughing my ass off. First, he expected to keep a short haired dog outside in the cold, let alone isolated on the other side of the barn/storage building. Second, he is in his pajamas. Third, the dog gave his girlfriend brain damage. I can't wait to see what he has to say next!
Finished. I really like how smart the dog is and I really liked how he stayed outside until you gave hime the command to come inside. I agree with the other commenter that the dog shouldn't be nipping people in the butt. I can understand a dog retaliating when a person won't leave them alone but to go after a person when they aren't doing anything wrong isn't acceptable. Thank you for the video, though. It was enjoyable to watch.
Nikki F. I don't understand these people who get a dog to keep it outside. A dog is a member of the family, if he dosen' t like the cold get him a dog coat, he don't have a thick layer of hair to keep him warm.
He is her dog. Rescued from a man who could no longer care for him. He had bad habits, we knew nothing other than he needed help. He is 4ys old now and much better behaved.
You have a great dog! I have a 95lb adopted Doberman and she is exactly as you describe. Doesn’t like some people, hates rain, and doesn’t like being seen doing her business. She’s a senior citizen dog but still needs lots of exercise. Before I respected her strength she tabogganed my through several snow drifts and over ice but now we have her mostly under control. Let’s just say you must always be alert with this type of dog.
I can run WITH him, just not FROM him,, even if were playing, he plays too ruff. I correct him, but the previous owner had a teenage boy who would play rough with him as a puppy. He is improving about this, but he still doesnt like anyone to run FROM him.
Joey Ferris I have Zeus, who I got at nine months from a similar situation, so I totally understand how freaky abused Dobermans can get! I don't let him rough house with my boys, or even see them wrestle. He tries to 'correct' them and it's not good. His sister is the Alpha, and we raised her, and she has a beautiful temperament. They're so smart a breed, I bet he'll learn.

Cynthia - agreed. Everyone always said I was "too mean" (i.e. too discipline: didn't let her on furniture, didn't let her on bed, didn't let her jump up or mouth things, etc) to my girl for not allowing slight bad behaviors and correcting them on the spot. I always pointed out to them that these are willful dogs who, if given an inch, will take it and push for more, and that the entire reason they liked her and enjoyed me bringing her around was because I made sure she always knew I was the alpha and so they weren't dealing with an unruly large dog.
Joey this is still one of your best videos about Cruz, and Dobermans in general. This is about the 4th time I've seen it. Still as good and entertaining as the first time I watched it.
Logan Weaver I just put a deposit down for a Doberman puppy. Have to wait another month let me tell you something they're pricey lol I'm watching a bunch of UA-cam videos and articles about these dogs. I'm getting one for a family house guard dog. Always ask the owners of the mom and dad to see their temperament.
My advice is to teach him to be friendly as possible and not encourage the guard dog behavior. He will do that naturally but getting along with people is a learned thing sometimes.
NO DOG BELONGS OUT IN A DOG HOUSE OR ON A CHAIN/WAKE UP PEOPLE DOGS ARE SOCIAL CREATURES KEEPING THEM AWAY FROM HUMAN CONTACT IS TORTURE FOR THEM/AND ONE MORE THING/DOBERMANS ARE GREAT DOGS/ REAL SMART AND LOVE HUMANS!!
Different dogs, like different people, enjoy different things. Your comment is too broad. You need more empathy in your life. And just a heads up... you aren't always right just because you believe you are.
To add to this without "editing". I've had inside dogs who wouldn't survive a day outside and I've had outside dogs you couldn't convince with the best steak/treat in the world, to come inside. Same with cats. Not everyone and everything is the same. If they were life would be so boring. All dogs are different (most bred to be so) just like all humans are different. The differences and acceptance of those differences (barring victimization) are what help you grow as a human and, if you're a person who enjoys the company of domesticated animals, they will grow with you. Only sad part is if all goes according to your plan those buddies won't make the entire trip with you... but they'll make up for the grieving you'll endure with the impact they had during their life. Love and respect all people and creatures. We share this world.
I had a german shepherd for 10 years she lived outside roamed around the yard loved to play ball and was mostly kind to people we knew except strangers she was always aware and warned of someone suspicious passing by... shes no longer here but a friend has dobermans for sale i might get one
I’ve had dobies for 38 years! Right now I have two, red male and black female. Such beautiful animals. It takes my breath away to watch them run. We also have a 20 pound terrier who is their best friend and maybe boss. In addition to all the positives of the individual dogs, people who don’t know them are afraid of them! Won’t even roll down a window if a dobie is around. Never planned to have them on the bed, but the male snore is awesome and soporific. Best dog out there.
we had one for 17years. she did all those tricks except bang. amazing dogs for sure. loving, compassionate, smart. she also would do shake, and do the other one, alternating when we say the other one. awesome.
Intelligent, energetic, powerful, athletic...naturally want to be with you! Ours is 7 months old. She already weighs 75 lbs. Her speed is unbelieveable. She is gorgeous. We should breed her but we won’t. She’s the one. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I knew I couldn’t get one until I wasn’t going into my teaching job daily. They are amazingly attached to their families...they will die without that attachment. This guy’s cautionary video should be required watching for anyone considering a Doberman Pinscher. :-)
Love ❤️ him!! Just came across your video. Very helpful information. I have a female Doberman being born the first week of February. The breeder is giving her to me at about 7 weeks old. So, we’ll get her in March. I absolutely love this breed. I’ve done my research and knew this was what we wanted. I’m bringing her to obedience/training school as soon as she’s old enough. I will definitely make sure her transition from her momma to us goes smoothly. We will give her a lot of love and definitely a workout!! We’re ready for our Ruby❤️
Loved this. I had a Doberman when I was little...We lost him to an illness. Not to sound corny but there's still a hole in my heart where he used to be.
I owned red/rust Dobrmann yrs ago. 1987 Westminster Champ Ace of Spades off spring. Smart as a whip! Now I'm a 30 yr plus groomer. Never met a Dobermann I didn't like or that didn't like me:) They can size a person up real quick. Mine at 3 months was more protective then my red nose pit I raised with her. Loved the video! Enjoy him, he is a beauty.
My doberman was the most loving loyal dog I have ever had. One of the best family dogs you could ever hope for. Please don't keep them outside in a doghouse...they need to be inside with the family.
Funny story! We rescued a 46 pound Boxer mix from a puppy. She got her start on the streets of Mexico. She had a knob on top of herd head they call an ociput. She was running in yard similar to your Dobermann, we called it running nascar! I went to hug her as I'd done many times and 1st time she reared up got me in the forehead. Wow what a hit! I remember walking into the house yelling! Jewel didn't do it on purpose. I Bled pretty good and Jewel wouldn't leave my side:) Only got 6.5 yrs with her. Cancer:( But I have the scare on my forehead to remind me. She placed the mark to find me easier when I get to heaven:)
My 3 year Goliath sized female Dobbie bonded with me the day we got her (she was 2). I agree that Dobermans are the smartest dogs (instead of 5th) and having the velcro Dobbie is perfect for me (I have gran mal and petite seizures) I give my Josie love, attention, food, water, etc. & she gives me not only emotional & medical support, but love & protection. Josie learns best by praise (treats distract her).
Cool video Joey, I'm on my 3rd Dobermann, all rescues too, it's amazing how much love they have to give, my current girl Flo also dislikes certain people too, she was abused by an old guy & she doesn't trust/like old men. She has a hatred like I've never seen for our neighbour who is a drunk & a crack head. They are very strong willed dogs, brilliant with children & totally dedicated to their family
amazing video Joey! You covered pretty much everything about the breed and that anyone has to know about them before they own one. Keep uploading vids of your amazing dog.
When I had mine she was just about a 18 months old. I was talking with friends and not paying attention to her. She came up and pinched me in my inner thigh while I was sitting an a tables, and gave me a blood blister. I laughed, since as you say they are so smart, she got my attention a Right. Anyway, that pinching I found was more of a mischievous side to her personality than not liking someone. Only once she didn’t like someone and really wanted to bite him. I found out years later the man was a criminal and she sensed it. Amazing dogs. I won two huskies, high energy and love cold of course. Very strong dogs also and also very intelligent, but more stubborn so very hard to train. Dobermans are amazing very easy to train. I’ll get another one some day. I love the breed. But like any dog ya gotta pay close attention to them, they are all unpredictable. My husky loves kids like most Dobermans, and similar accident happen what my husky decided to jump up on a wall next to my neighbors 2 year old. The lease caught the girl by the neck and knocked her head first into the side of the wall. Since kids are flexible she was actually fine. But she cried so much. The little girl is almost 4 now and loves the husky so much. They are inseparable now. But again working class dogs are strong, you have to respect that.
I miss having Dobes soooooooo much! They're amazing, beautiful animals. So smart, loving, etc. Mine were big mush-pots but if we were threatened by anything or anyone, watch out! He's trained beautifully as were mine. Gorgeous boy!
Doberman owners - does this breed have a thing for parking their butts on top of your feet when you are sitting? It's just something I noticed in the three I've met.
We had to put our doberman down this past December, he was 11 1/2 years old... he ran in snow and loved it.. we miss him dearly.. We will be getting another one soon. They are great dogs but they are not for everyone.
I'm getting a Doberman very soon! I moved to a larger house with a huge backyard, just so it's fair for my dogs. I'm so excited, my family and I have been waiting for very long to get her.
Am an old fart that has owned many dogs through the years and there is but two or three that realy stood out, one being a Dobie my granddaughter named Foof I honestly believe all dogs go to heaven while most humans go to hell. The reason I think that way comes from observation of life, one where a dog will love you through hell and high water and most humans are so busy loving themselves they are about as trustworthy as a pit viper on a warm day. Not one dog companion now gone has left a bitter memory, and I wish like hell I could say same about humans I've read about, and known. Foot holds a high place in those memories, a Dobie that always let you know he loved not just you but life itself. All dogs are only reflections of those alphas who "Own Them", not as companions but more on Master Slave level, and Dobies are no different. There is a world of differences between tricks and just playtime antics, tricks can sometimes demean a dog, make them clowns, but becoming a companion means each treating other with respect. A Dobie is a Dobie, their own traits, not a damn dress up doll poodle or as toys for children from 10 to 90 years old, give them respect and love, forgive their quirky nature and they will forgive yours. Yes my dogs left many holes in my heart but I think I would of had a hard heart without them. A hug has a special, could say spiritual, property if given through love, so hug that Dobie now and then, they know what it means.
Had dogs all my life mostly labs, Had my doberman 3 yrs now and shes the most beautiful intelligent utter pain in the ass dog iv ever had and i wouldnt change her. But as you said rightly you have to respect them ,they are big fast and very powerful and those front paws are lethal lol
marko smedley mine takes my stuff, like shirts and jeans to sleep on. She also covets my food (I can tell because she uses that laser like dobie-vision on me when I'm eating). She, too, is a pain.
Buster was a dark red..mahogany..with amber eyes. He had a way of looking at you that made you want to cry. He was such a pain in the ass..I was forever sweeping up his muddy paw tracks. He would go out and play in the full ditches or take a swim in the pond and want to jump on my bed and take a nap...yes he was a huge pain in the ass..and I will miss him all of my life. He was funny, gorgeous, smart, loving, sensitive , loyal, and the best dog ever..he was smarter then some people I know. He was not the easiest dog to live with for two old folks..but we will miss him always.
No dog wants to live alone in the elements outside. They're social animals and need to be with their pack, even if everyone in their pack walks on two legs. He'd probably be OK if you lived in the kennel with him but certainly not alone, tain't natural.
MmeDefarge (Expose NYC Meth Labs) some dog breeds are more okay with being on their own than others, some even prefer it kinda. but Dobermanns usually seek the attention of a family, entertainment, company more than (some) other breeds. so he kinda got a point there
Thanks for sharing this. I previously had a standard schnauzer and she past away. I have always loved the doberman based on those my friends owned. This brings a little more light into the breed I need. Thanks ever so much! Stay safe!
I LOVE your beautiful boy! I've owned 4 Dobermans over the last 27 years. No doubt, they are the most intelligent dog I've ever been around. My last one died about 10 months ago and I've grieved for her so long. You are definitely right, they are warm blooded and cannot take cold weather. They have to be inside with the family. I'd love to have another one some day. Living alone, they sure made me feel safe. No one in their right mind would go in on a big Doberman. They are very protective of their family AND their property...I like that. Thanks for letting us see your baby, loved his tricks. Since he will shake, teach him to "high five" too...that's funny.
Thank the lord! thank you for educating people, do not leave your dobermans outside! they are not an elements dog lol. And they need to be around you!. Thank you Joey Ferris!
These guys are one of the most incredible dogs I have ever met. I have been working with them since I was 6 y/o and I have always had Dobermans. They are absolutely a velcro dog and given the choice, they'd live inside of you. They love to work for their one person and will give their lives to protect them.
can I ask why you'd get a animal who was meant to live in a pack and try to keep it outside all the time? they need to be with the pack and for an owned dog the pack is the family they live with.
Excellent video....I strongly believe the Doberman was never intended to be a permanent outdoor dog. My little lady ,loves to go out and play , She loves the journeys through our mountains and of course we will take her to public places as well. I cant express enough the loyalty, the love and dedication they have for their family. Their intelligence level is OFF the chart. Here name is Nikita, or princess..lol ,she is only 4 months ,but ppl I tell say "no way" because she looks more like a 6 month old. She just comes from a big bone family, she will be pretty intimidating as she gets older. We have been working the basic training steps with her, my question is knowing ,as I do, she's going to be big when should I get into the deeper training , like her walking on a leash with me ? Instead of her dragging me around like a wet cloth??? Yes even at this point I'm not enough to "pull weight" on her , I literally need an hope for a tree to grab ,to stop us and try and get us back in step, needless to say it leaves the needed long walks for hubby which works 14 hrs a day. I personally hate missing those walks with them. For him she is in step, I don't know if its because she knows I don't have the strength or size to stop her or I don't have that serious tone needed. If she feels my panicky feelings or what.. but a leash walk is one thing we cant do. We can play in the fenced yard, its just. Not the same..I wanna walk her threw the park and show what a beautiful animal she is..SO.....ANY SUGGESTIONS?????
She would be too young at the age she is for one the moment but can be used from 6months on, and that is a prong/pinch collar. They look a little nasty but are truly not. Do some open minded research on them and you will find they are much safer than a check/choker collar for training. They still need to be used appropriately like any training tool. Do a search for solid k9 training he has some good videos.
Ditto on the prong collar for sure. She's definitely picking up on and taking advantage of your weakness. It's only going to get worse if you let it slide, and it's important to start young. Do some research to make sure you understand how the prong works and how to size it. It's very safe and highly effective when used properly. The biggest mistake people make is setting it too loose so that it sits at the bottom of the neck. It should be snug enough to sit right at the top of the neck behind the head, without digging in, so that a quick snap on the leash is all you need to do for a correction. This is the quickest way to leash train any dog that I've found!
Hey, please don't use a prong collar, there's absolutely no need for it. Training your dog through pain is still abusive because your hurting them, look up a halti collar instead. If the dog wants to pull it can't because it's too awkward for them to do so.
stinky6424 A Halti collar can actually be really uncomfortable for some short hair dogs. I used it on my Weimaraner and it would cause irritation bad enough to start scabbing and bleeding. I asked my vet and multiple trainers about it, and we couldn't come up with a solution. Besides that, it wasn't really that effective in making a permanent change in my very stubborn dog's leash behavior. Really stubborn dogs learn it's awkward to pull with a Halti, but choose to do so anyway sometimes. Dobermans, in my experience, are one of these really stubborn breeds. All a Halti does is discourage the behavior, not eradicate it completely. I tried the front-leashed harnesses and every other "friendly" leash tool but nothing is as safe or effective as the prong collar. A prong collar doesn't cause any pain when used properly. The key in that is making sure you're using it right. It should fit snugly so that it doesn't slide down to the base of the neck, but not dig into the skin. When the dog jumps ahead or whatever, you apply a quick correction, just a quick and LIGHT tug on the leash. For the dog, this feels very similar to the corrective bite of their mothers when they were puppies and wandering from the group. Unless making a correction, the leash should be slack at all times and no pressure on the neck. The prongs do feel like teeth which is why it's so effective, but I promise you it's not painful. Leash training with the Halti collar was very stressful for both me and my dog. Literally the second I made the first correction with the prong collar, my dog was like "ok, I guess I gotta follow the rules now". It's very obvious to her now what I want her to do and I was able to actually leash train her and quickly. Whatever you want to use with your dog is your decision, but the prong collar is an excellent choice. But do stay away from choke collars. Even in the hands of professionals, they are very dangerous. I would consider choke collars most likely abusive in untrained hands.
Thanks for the reply, I guess I've only ever seen the horror stories with prong collar use. The first things you see when you google one are of damage done to dogs necks. I also only saw the halti collar being used on smaller dogs, with bigger dogs its understandable that they could even over power that.
dude all big dogs are this way not just the dobie you need to understand that i have a staffy and she is the same way dogs will let you know who they like or dont like
Had three as a kid, found a predominantly dobie mix a couple of months ago. They are INCREDIBLY intelligent, loving, loyal and STUBBORN as hell. The second day I brought Jack home (named after Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Xmas because all I saw were bones and he's typical dobie black), I had to buy a dog food container. I left for work, came home to find the container in the middle of the living room and the lid was UNSCREWED. Teeth marks all around the lid where he had stubbornly unscrewed the lid, HOLES THROUGH some of it but the scoop was unmarked, laying next to the container. It's almost like he KNEW he didn't have to bite it, just get it out of his way. Walking Jack, he'll pull (not really "pull" but more like tug on the leash letting me know he wants to go that way) towards PEOPLE but only for head/butt scritching. He's never once pulled me towards cats, ducks, squirrels, iguanas or frogs/toads. He is an AMAZINGLY chill dog, eager to learn but happy to sit next to and nudge me every now and then for some loving. I'm in a 1/1 and it's PACKED FULL(dad just passed so lots of boxes and sorting in all the kids' apartments), Jack is almost fully grown and has no problem finding "his space" amidst the chaos.
Please pronounce Pinscher correctly. ! I have loved this breed for 40 years. Our family has always had one as a member of the family. Hear, hear, never an outside dog !! cheryl
This guy's a psycho, "she had a little bit of brain damage..." he says with a glint in his eye, proud as can be that his Beast could inflict that kind of damage *casually*. Lot's of showing off Stupid Pet Tricks, yet he confesses the dog nips people around him at will, presumably when he is not causing brain damage.. Beautiful dog in the hands of a uniquely unqualified owner.
My girlfriend basically rescued him from a bad situation, he is her dog, he had bad habits that we have been working to correct. Im not proud of the bad habits, but I am proud of his progress and of our hard work learning about this breed.
As you know little about this breed, you should state that fact. A Dobermann does not have an undercoat, just one layer of fur, therefore should NEVER be kept outside. That is the reason they feel the cold. Nobody should take on a Dobermann until they have done some research as to their needs, habits and temperament. They are a "people" dog, and need human company to be happy. They are good with children, and will look after all members of their family and any other pets you may have. One other fact.........they hate the rain and won't go outside if it is raining. In the U.S, the so called " white" Dobermann is a definate no no, being the highest number within the breed to find themselves dumped on the roadside, due to their intolerance of sun, which brings them out in sores, causes swollen and runny eyes plus servere sunburn. The Dobermanns of the present time show little resemblance to the original Dobes, developed by Karl Frederick Louis Dobermann, were developed by Dobermann to be personal protection dogs, they were a sort stocky dog with cropped ears and a docked tail. The ears and tail were altered to reduce the chance of the dog being grabbed if in an attack mode, also the very short coat made it difficult to grab hold of the dog. Mr Dobermann was a debt collector, and also a tax collector, along with his other jobs of running the local dog pound and a night watchman. This gave him a good choice of breeds to develope the Dobermannn dog. If you have children, and you are thinking of taking on a rescue dog, do not consider it if the dog's past history is not available, he/she may of ended up in rescue after a biting episode, far safer to buy from a good breeder that breeds for good temperament. Dobermann's come in three colors, Black, Brown, and A bluey fawn color. As stated earlier, there is a so called white, which is actually a cream color, but comes with extreme health problems with vet fees that can be enormous! The breed is easy to train, but needs firm control, they must be taught the pecking order of their new home.
Joey Ferris Accidents happen my man, don’t pay any attention to these guys badmouthing you. Thanks for sharing your videos! Greetings from a fellow West Virginian living in Utah.
Hi Joey. I'm subscribed to your channel and love your videos. I also have a Dobie. Her name is Talia and she is a year and a half old. She is my medical alert and mobility service dog. She is an incredibly wonderful service dog and is my life line and is my best friend. Dobies are not one of the "Fab Four" (the preferred breeds) for service dog work but you couldn't ask for a smarter, better, more loving, devoted partner. She is perfect in every way. Thank you for continuing to share you and your dog's story.❤
He said some things wrong, not every dog has health issues, there are a variety of breeds who are generally healthy all around, dobies are prone to wobblers disease and hip dysplaisia, however these diseases can easily be avoided if the puppy or dog is from a reputable breeder
The German breed of dogs sometimes have a blood disorder called "Von Willebrand" disease. I've had 4 Dobermans, and my last female did test positive for it. A blood test can be done to check for it. Because mine had Von Willebrand, before our vet could do her spay surgery, he had to order her type blood and she was being transfused during her surgery. Otherwise she could have bled to death.
Great dog! Got a European one ( floppy ears and long tail) ...smarter than many folk I know... Seriously affectionate and intelligent..and fast and strong.
why do you crop there ears four dogs come from germany 1. the dashhound, 2. german shaperd, 3. rotweilder,4. doberman , and yet the doberman is the only dog with crop ears every one who owns a doberman with crop ears should crop the owners ears.
I'm not condoning it but for many people in America cropping ears and docking tails is so common with this dog breed that people just don't think twice about it, some people also seem to think that cropping ears is healthier for them.
In some European countries cropping and docking is banned now, but still done here. For show dogs. German shepherd has naturally standing ears, no need to crop them.
The dobermann is a created breed../it did not evolve naturally...do you know of any canine in the wild like fox or a wolf with hound dog ears? To say that short perked up ears is not natural is not correct. The ears are also expressive of the attitude of the dog..long droopy ears tell you nothing..its one reason canine in the wild are not long and droopy. I live in Louisiana..it is hot and it is humid. Dobie ears are thick and long and are susceptible to mites and infections if not cropped. Their tails are thin and set high and they wag a lot..they are likely to have broken tails if not cropped. I would have loved to not have had to have Buster's ears done., but there is a reason for it. In Germany, or in the north or north west they do not have the same climate as we have in the south .. so they can get by with not cropping ears..we do not have that choice.
VirgoEarthAngel Love I heard of it but I am here researching because I want to get a dog hopefully and have always wanted a German Shepard or Doberman.
I rescued my doberman from the streets in Mexico. She was so skinny and afraid she tried to bite everytime i reached toward her. After a few months of gentle care and regular feedings, she has become the sweetest dog and so very attached to me. She would never attack anyone unless I told her to, then look out. She is a wonderful dog. Never had one before but I think I've found my breed for life now.
Celie Cain I love all dogs. I strongly agree with you about the wonderful border collie I have had three of that wonderful breed, each with their own character and highly intelligent.
You are thinking with emotion over reason. The breed standard is cropped ears. There is a reason for it, not just aesthetically. Mazzy had floppy ears and nearly constant ear infections. Two things always in my home were prescribed ear medication and ear wash. It was a pita. Mazzy was adopted.
I have a doberman with natural ears. I asked the breeder if there was any reason to have the ears cropped, she said no. Turns out there are several reasons. Many dobermans are poorly bred so most of them are highly prone to ear infections. When they shake their heads repeatedly with natural ears it can cause the ears to split and bleed. This takes months to heal and that's if another infection doesn't set it. So always get a well bred doberman that is Z factor free. But even if it is healthy (like mine) those ears are extremely prone to frostbite. I'm talking within 5 minutes on a windy cold day, cold meaning anything 40 or lower. So the dog needs a hat. If those natural ears get even a tiny bit of frostbite (like on the long dangling ends where it starts) that tiny scab can easily get bigger and bigger cuz the ears dangle. Every shake of the head and that little scab splits getting larger and larger. Takes forever to heal! That's from 5 minutes in the cold wind! Yes, I know cuz it happened to my doberman. She was happily playing outside running around. Now I know that even if there's no snow on the ground, even if the dog wants to stay out, she can't. Because she has long dangling natural ears. Of course she wears a hat and coat now. Still though, I wish the breeder had told me she needed those things. That's something you never read or see online; a doberman in a coat and hat.
What I really love about Doberman dog that I noticed it's almost the only dog keeps it's mouth closed most of the time, and doesn't have that too much Sylvia or breathing noise. I love Doberman dog it's my favored dog ever.
Brooke Platt nope, collies and German shepherds will obey commands without question - that doesn’t make them smart. Even a worm can be trained. The Doberman asks you “why should I?” And they have a human like sense of humour
That's a Beautiful dog !!! I have had the pleasure and honor to have owned 2 in the past. It's been several years now and I sure miss both of them. I'm alone and ready for another. I welcome the company, 24/7 companionship and a friend. This video excites me for the possibility of having another Doberman. I feel comfortable now, at 71, that I will not outlive another one, lol. I am very active, no medical problems, and know what these animals need. That's just what I have to offer, including lots of love. Now that I am ready, finding the perfect one is not easy. I would love a young male, cropped and docked, younger the better. Just like in this video. The problem is, I cannot afford a breeder buy and I doubt I would ever find one to match what I stated I would like, from rescue. I am in Spokane, Wa. and if anyone reading this, has a lead for me, or looking for a perfect home for a rescue, please help. I'm not asking for charity/free, and willing to pay. Just can't pay breeder price, living on Social Security. Thank you.
I love dobermans. I have had several in my life and have deeply loved them. They are very loyal, loving and family oriented. Super smart and easily trained with love. They are eager to please. They run like the wind!!! Such beautiful wonderful creatures! I took mine with me everywhere I could!
I have a Doberman and he LOVES going outside. He likes to catch the snow flakes and run laps around our house 😂😂😂 he is very smart. When ever he is thirsty he will grab his water bowl and drag it to me. Also he has learned to open our door and close it. Really cute dog and listens really well. Also many people misunderstand Dobermans. They think of Doberman of big scary dogs that want to kill them but they are really cute and loving and would do anything for its owner.
My buddy has two dobies and they love to be around me whenever I'm over at their house. So much so that his female one almost knocked me down saying hi lol. That trick with the treat on the nose reminded me of my husband's old dog. He was a black lab/border collie/husky mix and I loved doing that trick with him.
Who else really wants a Doberman and can’t stop watching videos about them
Me, all the time!
Same 😭😭
Me
Wifey and I!!!
Me😞
"They don't like cold weather."
**Happily runs around the snow**
LMAO!!!
They deadass can’t go outside for more than 30 minutes in snow or rain cause there hair is so short
They like any environment where their owner is
Joey Ferris I thought they couldn’t hm idk that’s what I was told
Joey Ferris
Exactly........ if you move to Alaska..... they are just as happy there, as long as the owner or family is there.
We learn every day
They are but on the flip side it makes losing them heartbreaking! I lost mine to DCM yesterday and its been the most devastating I've had to deal with. Love your dobbie!
@@wrivers6412 ugg so sorry we lost our Valentino after 10 years to Wobblers. We just got this guy in May, we will never own another breed.
@ Noir Jones you’re not learning anything new..? Like ever??
Truly amazing dogs. That is a great story.
These dogs used to terrify me when I was a child.
But now, I want one haha
Rachel Hardy lol, me too!
Rachel Hardy I’ve noticed that Dobermans or Rottweilers in some movies are the bad guys or the bad guy’s dog
The media has portrayed them as mean and scary, people have also trained them to be that way also. If you teach love and kindness you get it in return
I think your talking about the rottweilers lol
Resident Evil movie made me be afraid of the Dogs XD
I love how you are able to talk to the camera like someone is there really listening. so genuine
Jaewoo Ahn his doberman was listening lol
Jaewoo Ahn long neck head ass
Lonely Raccoon you aint even lie
Austin Corona why don’t you put a profile pic so I can roast you, immature ass kid. Go somewhere.
Thank you Jaewoo, that is a very good compliment. I am a terrible actor. I was really just talking.
Reminds me a lot of my pit!
Thank goodness you found her and she found you! A happy life for her now.
My general observation of dobies is:
Running running Running running Running running Running running Running running Running running
Hugging hugging Hugging hugging Hugging hugging Hugging hugging Hugging
...

We had our first Dobie for 17 years . When it came to graduation for off leash control she pinched me in the butt never before or after that . She was that one dog you love and miss forever.
Fun dogs
People tell me Doberman’s are easy to bite their owners and stuff pls explain are they dangerous or what to have as a family dog
I've grew up with Dobies and my parents bred them, I absolutely love them. They are affectionate , loyal, protective and yes, they just don't like certain people!
Alexa Life nice :)
I also want a doberman :(
Thank you for your honesty, people need to be aware of these facts.
You kNow “they have no fur” 😂💀 wtf is on them, they have fur just not long haired...
No shit? A short haired dog isn't intended for long term exposure to cold weather ? He doesn't like it and let's you know ? Lol. Really?
@Mark Richardson How is that stupid?
The maker of this video is the stupid idiot. Knows nothing about dogs. Not to mention lacks any common sense.
You should not have to look up that such a dog is not made for cold weather nor that any dog likes to be locked up alone outside. All dogs live in packs
strateeg32 I KNOW RIGHT
THE DUDE DOES KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF DOGS
Oh shut up you smartass prick
He does not know much about dogs at all, let alone diagnosing someones head trauma.
Nikki F. Sfb
Thank you so much for your videos on Kruz and Dobermans, I love your channel!
You should be able to run anywhere with your OWN dog, Doberman or not! I love my Dobies, but I AM their LEADER. Beautiful dog.

"he hasn't done any damage to anybody" Literally gives gf BRAIN DAMAGE?
Just a bit of brain damage, love how you slipped that one through.
😂😂😂right
I'm doing my research on getting a Doberman. Thank you for the valuable information.
Joey this is still one of your best videos about Cruz, and Dobermans in general. This is about the 4th time I've seen it. Still as good and entertaining as the first time I watched it.
I want one so bad
Logan Weaver I just put a deposit down for a Doberman puppy. Have to wait another month let me tell you something they're pricey lol I'm watching a bunch of UA-cam videos and articles about these dogs. I'm getting one for a family house guard dog. Always ask the owners of the mom and dad to see their temperament.
My advice is to teach him to be friendly as possible and not encourage the guard dog behavior. He will do that naturally but getting along with people is a learned thing sometimes.
Joey Ferris I agree especially when having kids at the house. Another ?s if I may ask do you have to crop the ears or is it just a look thing.
Manuel Munoz You don't have to crop anything if you don't want to.
Joey Ferris I was going to but I like her ears so she's keeping them.
Mary Thompson Not all dog.
Working dogs like huskies or herds dogs stay out in the farm instead of the house.
Mary Thompson yes yes yes yes!
I had a german shepherd for 10 years she lived outside roamed around the yard loved to play ball and was mostly kind to people we knew except strangers she was always aware and warned of someone suspicious passing by... shes no longer here but a friend has dobermans for sale i might get one
this guy loves that beautiful dobie!.. I love mine. sometimes ill just sit and stare at how beautiful he is, lol.
I think we will always have a Dobie now
we had one for 17years. she did all those tricks except bang. amazing dogs for sure. loving, compassionate, smart. she also would do shake, and do the other one, alternating when we say the other one.
Thank you. I have gotten a lot of hate for my learning process. I hoped to spare others.
We’re ready for our Ruby❤️
she's really beautiful and a big softy like most Dobis , ours is sleeping with us in bed because she loves it warm
Enjoy him, he is a beauty.
this is lovely
amazing animals
but handle with care! big responsibility
My doberman was the most loving loyal dog I have ever had. One of the best family dogs you could ever hope for. Please don't keep them outside in a doghouse...they need to be inside with the family.
beautiful dog
Alex Rmz We love him
Funny story!
I am on my third doberman you make them sound like a packet of biscuits or something you can replace at a drop of a hat.....
What rescue ?
"She just had a little bit of brain damadge"
°-°
amazing video Joey! You covered pretty much everything about the breed and that anyone has to know about them before they own one. Keep uploading vids of your amazing dog.
Thank you
When I had mine she was just about a 18 months old. I was talking with friends and not paying attention to her. She came up and pinched me in my inner thigh while I was sitting an a tables, and gave me a blood blister. I laughed, since as you say they are so smart, she got my attention a
Right.
Doberman's are life!!
Love this wonderful breed. And you are a very pleasant guy.
Holger Müller Thank you. He is a great dog. Very patient with a learning new owner
Doberman owners - does this breed have a thing for parking their butts
on top of your feet when you are sitting? It's just something I noticed
in the three I've met.
Absolutely!! I'm 16 and so far my family has had 3 dobes, all loving to sit on us
defs, ours does too. they call them velcro dobes because they love to touch and be around you all the time
4 Dobermans make my family and they Own me , and yes they love to be very , very close to you . They are not called Velcro Dogs for nothing
Yes, they do that all the time. I had a black one and a red one, both always seem to purposely love plopping their butt on me.
Just a dog thing in general. Dogs like to touch when they lay down.
Am an old fart that has owned many dogs through the years and there is but two or three that realy stood out, one being a Dobie my granddaughter named Foof
I honestly believe all dogs go to heaven while most humans go to hell.
Beautifully said
Had dogs all my life mostly labs, Had my doberman 3 yrs now and shes the most beautiful intelligent utter pain in the ass dog iv ever had and i wouldnt change her.
"Dobie-vision" oh i like that and so true
Stay safe!
I'm glad you liked it. I really love sharing my experiences with our Dobie
He high fives now, plays horse, spin, snoot and every other trick we could think of lol
Thank the lord! thank you for educating people, do not leave your dobermans outside! they are not an elements dog lol. And they need to be around you!. Thank you Joey Ferris!
Man: they don’t like cold weather
Me: he’s running in the snow
Man: oh
lol
Mine during his 1st snow fall, ran up and down the yard jumping and eating the falling snowflakes! Hilarious!!
Omg so many know it all's in the comments. SMH
Great job! Dobermans are the sweetest most humble dogs in the world
These guys are one of the most incredible dogs I have ever met.
Karen Siemsen He was given to us by an owner who could no longer care for him. We learned quickly these facts.
What does it matter, he learned and fixed . Why do people always want to question everything.
Excellent video....I strongly believe the Doberman was never intended to be a permanent outdoor dog. My little lady ,loves to go out and play ,
She loves the journeys through our mountains and of course we will take her to public places as well.
I also only saw the halti collar being used on smaller dogs, with bigger dogs its understandable that they could even over power that.
dude all big dogs are this way not just the dobie you need to understand that i have a staffy and she is the same way dogs will let you know who they like or dont like
Pure bred staffies are medium sized dogs.
Nicolas Soto Staffordshire Bull Terrier (aka Staff or Staffy), it's a British breed of dog
Nicolas Soto it's another word for pitbull
Dobermans are a very unique breed.
shannon boyle lol no it's not.
I have a 1 year old doberman myself and she really is the most loving smartest dog I've ever met/had.
Dobermans Rule. The best.
Please pronounce Pinscher correctly. ! I have loved this breed for 40 years. Our family has always had one as a member of the family. Hear, hear, never an outside dog !! cheryl
Cheryl Wyatg how should he pronounce it.... I'm pretty positive it's pronounced pincher
i'm from germany and it's procnounce "pin-scher" sch is pronounced like the "sh" in shut up
Wrong:
Dachshund " Dax-sund" Pinscher: " Pin-cher"
Greetings from Germany.
Munch-à-Seal couldn’t agree more
Joey Ferris Accidents happen my man, don’t pay any attention to these guys badmouthing you. Thanks for sharing your videos! Greetings from a fellow West Virginian living in Utah.
Thank you. He is her dog. She would get rid of me first.
Really enjoyed your video. So easy to see the love you have for each other.
Is it bad if you let your dobie sleep in the bed with you instead of their kennel?
Snape Snape Severus Snape No it's not.
Great dog!
Got a European one ( floppy ears and long tail) ...smarter than many folk I know...
Seriously affectionate and intelligent..and fast and strong.
Another idiot who hasn't a clue about the needs of his dog. What an idiot?
Dude, you are so lucky. That"s an amazing dog. And he's lucky to have a caring owner. Great amount of space for him to run around in. All the best.
Thank you, we also go running in the mountains.
His dog is beautiful, that mix of red and black is incredible
If you want a dog to sit in your yard 24/7, please get a statue instead
why do you crop there ears four dogs come from germany 1. the dashhound, 2. german shaperd, 3. rotweilder,4. doberman , and yet the doberman is the only dog with crop ears every one who owns a doberman with crop ears should crop the owners ears.
I'm not condoning it but for many people in America cropping ears and docking tails is so common with this dog breed that people just don't think twice about it, some people also seem to think that cropping ears is healthier for them.
A lot of times, a breeder may crop the ears before someone purchases
In some European countries cropping and docking is banned now, but still done here. For show dogs. German shepherd has naturally standing ears, no need to crop them.
Boxers are german and have docked tails and cropped ears
Anybody here because of Brooke Hautes Dog Abuse😥🐶🤦🏽♀️
VirgoEarthAngel Love
I heard of it but I am here researching because I want to get a dog hopefully and have always wanted a German Shepard or Doberman.
Hero Me too my Friend🙋🏽♀️
I rescued my doberman from the streets in Mexico. She was so skinny and afraid she tried to bite everytime i reached toward her. After a few months of gentle care and regular feedings, she has become the sweetest dog and so very attached to me. She would never attack anyone unless I told her to, then look out. She is a wonderful dog. Never had one before but I think I've found my breed for life now.
That is a great story. It's unbelievable that someone could just put any dog on the street, but a Doberman,, that's like a child
Just love the love you have for the doberman breed an your beautiful Dobie. Great vid
👌 thanks for sharing..
I love dobermans but border collie are wayyyyyyyy smarter
Celie Cain I love all dogs. I strongly agree with you about the wonderful border collie I have had three of that wonderful breed, each with their own character and highly intelligent.
Brooke Houts should see this
Hope so ua-cam.com/video/S9Jx0aKRDdM/v-deo.html
Grey Wolf I hi
I have no respect for owners who cut and mold their Dobermans hears.
Stfu
Actually the cropped ears are better for their health bc they’re highly prone to ear infections
K good for u
What I really love about Doberman dog that I noticed it's almost the only dog keeps it's mouth closed most of the time, and doesn't have that too much Sylvia or breathing noise. I love Doberman dog it's my favored dog ever.
Love him. Beautiful boy. Hes so goofy but so smart
There not the smartest dog border collie German shepherd
Brooke Platt yes that is true but even border collies or german shephads are not smart sometimes
Brooke Platt nope, collies and German shepherds will obey commands without question - that doesn’t make them smart. Even a worm can be trained. The Doberman asks you “why should I?” And they have a human like sense of humour
they are not the smartest dog...
the smartest dog is Border collie
Omg I love this dog. Don’t forget how affectionate they are
Thanks for doing these videos on Dobermans, I have learnt so much.....
This video is really helpful. And your channel is amazing. Thank you! I’m getting a Doberman after 3 days!😍💖🔥
Your dog is a beautiful specimen and you can tell he loves you big time.
