For those wondering about the Top Gear theme in the end: - Gremlin Graphics was the studio that published the entire Lotus Trilogy in the Amiga (which was developed by Magnetic Fields) - They were also the developers behind the Mega Drive ports of the 2nd and third games in the Lotus Trilogy. - And they were the developers of the original Top Gear games, both the SNES release and the sequels, and in the first game they used the original Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge engine, with adaptations from Lotus II and III applied to both Top Gear 2 and 3000. - In both Top Gear and the first two Lotus games the composer is the same, Barry Leitch, whereas in the third Lotus game, the composer is Patrick Phelan (which also composed Zool). Also, stop crediting Electronic Arts for being a good studio in the past, after the first years, Trip Hawkins was more interested in being a publisher foremost, which cemented the company's structure as seen today (before the takeovers, acquisitions and subsequent closure of studios, of course); and in this game, as well as many Amiga releases ported to the Mega Drive, they were solely a publisher.
It helps there's a password save. I've beaten it that way. I read most of these longplays use TAS. Which is why the world record score is much lower than this run.
Memories.. The final stage storm was a nightmare to me.. Always losing on the 4th or 5th checkpoint.. Didn't finish it cuz my classmate ask me to trade athletic power game with my lotus challenge for 3 days and he said.. But he didn't bring it back and he just transferred.. Can't get another one cuz It wasn't available in my country and this one was a gift from UK my uncle bought it for me.. Glad I saw the ending.. Always remembering tea cup password :)
Excelente historia.

Played the crap out of the game when I was young. I never understood the "password" function, so I could never make it past the fog stage cause I'd get to worked up about getting through the night stage, and then I'd choke.
I was the same way about Sonic 1. Marble Zone was so hard that by the time I got to Spring Yard Zone, I'd have no continues and only 2 or 3 lives left. These days, I could probably beat the whole game on 3 lives but back then I sucked.
Soon as I found the password save was there I was able to beat it with practice. Today I'm working to beat it for real. I'm so close to getting past the fog stage. I got 20 mil which is actually the world record. The play here is only beyond that because longplays cheat and use TAS
23:06 I think that's the Shilouette of a Truck, thumbs up if you agree. I also noticed that they swapped the intro tunes on the Night and Interstate tracks
Actually, Lotus was developed by Magnetic Fields, not Gremlin. Gremlin just published the game. But Gremlin indeed developed Top Gear. The music is by Barry Leitch. Since Gremlin actually owns both games anyway, they probably just "borrow" the music from Lotus to use in Top Gear. Many people consider Top Gear to be some kind of "sequel" to Lotus.
There are a couple of things that I find funny in this version of LTC2. The course themes, title theme and ending theme are out of tune, the night course and motorway course themes are swapped, the motorway course is named the interstate course, the turbo text doesn't have a timer next to it and the announcer is someone completely different.
First it was Lotus on Amiga Then it was Lotus 2 on Amiga which came to MD as Lotus Turbo Then Amiga got Lotus 3 which came to MD as Lotus II. Just to clarify
No wonder. I remember the first time I saw Top Gear for the SNES and thought it looked REALLY really similar to Lotus Turbo Challenge. So to find out they developed both, makes a lot of sense now.
Wish a homebrew developer would remake this game on the Mega Drive to get it as close to the Amiga version as possible. The Mega Drive is more than capable, just look at Alien 3 and Aladdin on the Mega Drive, and then the Amiga versions, they are very, very close.
I grew up playing this on the amiga. Great game and loved the theme music. Shame the music isn't spot on with the megadrive but the game is near perfect. Just purchased the megadrive version on ebay.
Agree. It plays very well. Only reason this player complained is because in reality they suck at it and it took them many hours to do this cheating with TAS. Those of us with skill and the need for speed will respect this game. World record atm without cheating is just over 20 mil. I've beaten the game using the password save but I'm trying to do it for real now.
I played this game for a long time, brings and two of the best cars from the British car manufacturer Lotus the Esprit Turbo and the Elan SE. The Top Speed of The Esprit Turbo SE is 163 mph ((262 km/h)) as for the Elan SE the top speed is 137 mph ((220 km/h)) that means that Esprit Turbo is more faster than the Elan SE
Other way around. The Amiga looks and sounds better but the Genesis is faster, more challenging, and more exciting. As long as you're on NTSC that is. Which is why I say Genesis over MegaDrive not to confuse the 2.
In the end of dis video, i don't know if someone have noticed, but I've heard a known theme ( SNES - TOP GEAR TITLE THEME) Will it be??? I don't know who's this song's author, who has robbed who????? Nobody knows!!! SNES might be a converted version or otherwise!!! OR L. T. C or T. G.
If you close your eyes,it just sounds like a 2600 game and if you close them for 5 mins, you will fall asleep Megadrive racing games without music and sfx at the same time is just flat out lazy,if nes rad racer can do it then megadrive can do it
I'm 25 years old. I got this game at 4 years old. 21 years passed... And the main menu's melody is still on my ears and head all this time ❤️❤️❤️

One of those Outrun (ish) clones that I must confessed I really enjoyed.
First racing game that I played...sweet memories!
Childhood memories .. loved this game being a 90s kid
First racer I ever played, played it start to finish every day. Good memories
Holy shit I played this game so much on Mega drive, but never got through it all. Hell I never remembered the name until now. Such nostalgia.
Me too. When I was a kid
It helps there's a password save. I've beaten it that way.
I read most of these longplays use TAS.

That intro tune is 🔥🔥🔥
You didn't press the YEEEEHAAAAAA button
He's gotcha covered at 14:56 or so. owob
EDIT: Also 23:33.

Ahhh! Memories come flooding back of this game back when I used to rent games at Blockbuster.
That music thooo
If you loved this, you will adore the Amiga version :)
I've always remembered Tea Cup was the password for Storm. Memories!
I remember by 1st impression of the lightning on the last stage.
It.
Was.
AWESOME!
Amiga FTW!
Played the crap out of the game when I was young. I never understood the "password" function, so I could never make it past the fog stage cause I'd get to worked up about getting through the night stage, and then I'd choke.
Literally carbon copy of my experience with this game as a kid. Pain
I was the same way about Sonic 1. Marble Zone was so hard that by the time I got to Spring Yard Zone, I'd have no continues and only 2 or 3 lives left. These days, I could probably beat the whole game on 3 lives but back then I sucked.

I used to love this game watching this video took me way back
This version is alot harder than the Amiga and Atari ST, so if you want more of a challenge, then this is for you!
The ending music is also the same of TopGear.
Yhea it's música of top gear súper snes
The first racing game I ever played! The intro music is still legendary! 😁
23:06 I think that's the Shilouette of a Truck, thumbs up if you agree.
I also noticed that they swapped the intro tunes on the Night and Interstate tracks
Will be 29 in a few days, many fond memories of playing this (or attempting to at least) from circa 1997 through 2002

nostalgia man i used to play it when i was 10 years old
Hoo boy... The soundtrack from _Lotus Turbo Challenge 2_ did not make a good transition to this port.
Both Lotus and Top Gear were made by the same developer, Gremlin Graphics. Lotus (on Amiga and MD) came first.
First it was Lotus on Amiga
Then it was Lotus 2 on Amiga which came to MD as Lotus Turbo
Then Amiga got Lotus 3 which came to MD as Lotus II.
Just to clarify
No wonder. I remember the first time I saw Top Gear for the SNES and thought it looked REALLY really similar to Lotus Turbo Challenge. So to find out they developed both, makes a lot of sense now.
So arcade,, love it
How could did you feel when you didn't hit anything for ages
The size of this screen being a square, will fit just right with a FunKey S
Wish a homebrew developer would remake this game on the Mega Drive to get it as close to the Amiga version as possible. The Mega Drive is more than capable, just look at Alien 3 and Aladdin on the Mega Drive, and then the Amiga versions, they are very, very close.
My very first video game on my very first system : the MD
That Storm map music 🔊🔊
Awesome music!
I grew up playing this on the amiga. Great game and loved the theme music. Shame the music isn't spot on with the megadrive but the game is near perfect. Just purchased the megadrive version on ebay.

I have find memories of the Amiga lotus games. The megadrive ones not so much.
Awesome man! Really enjoy your videos!
had this on the amiga 500. Great game. Music was alot better on the amiga.
Ah, the troll barriers on the last checkpoint of the Fog circuit.
... How I do not miss thee. :|
La canción del ending es la del intro en top gear siempre supe que tenían algo que ver eran casi idénticos en todo.
Chek point tik tik tik tik tik tik :D
Эх кто ещё смотрит это настольгическое видео в 2020 :_)
S L U G P A C E
This game was so hard!
I'm thinking of buying this for my megadrive is it as good as the Amiga version ,?
Just beat the game. The last track is damn difficult.
Why were these games never released on the SNES?
I got this game when I was 14 now iam 35 and the graphics still on point
YEE HAAW!
INTRO Top gear 35:47
Congratulations!
From
Lotus
The Production Team
Yeehaa 😂
what about the yehaa! lol
LOTUS II RECS (AMIGA LOTUS III) is a much better and improved port.
did the lotus's turbos blow halfway through the race?
Played this game a lot as a kid. Never got past the snow level :/
This was super hard.
Back when ea still care about their games.
New game named Slipstream, remember Lotus =]
Although I am still a firm believer that most multi-format games fare better musically on the Mega Drive, this is an exception. GEEZ.
Ending music is the same of top gear 1
Because this game is topgear. After
I played this game for a long time, brings and two of the best cars from the British car manufacturer Lotus the Esprit Turbo and the Elan SE. Brilliant!!
What.a.classic!!!
Sin musica de fondo porque?
Why you speed up the video? I actually playing it and it's very slower at real speed
Check point! UK UK UK UK UK UK UK UK UK!
the Interstate looks like an American version of the motorway and the course is mirrored, compared to the AMIGA Version
Sounds like that Elan had a twin clutch gearbox
Супер игры 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Wow, this version is dreadful if you are used to playing the Amiga version.
Other way around. The Amiga looks and sounds better but the Genesis is faster, more challenging, and more exciting. As long as you're on NTSC that is. Which is why I say Genesis over MegaDrive not to confuse the 2.
You should try the Amiga version, it got better sounds and graphics .
very nice
on the Storm Course, the chevron arrows flash when the lightning flashes
Is it just me or does the menu music sound like Fire On High by ELO?
God, I love this game. But it could really do with some music during the races.
How many games has this guy beaten? XD
Memories
Yeeeehaaaa!🤣

8 years late but these had the same composers
Poderiam ter feito um top gear 1 para o mega né gremlim, olha esse áudio final foda
❤️❤️❤️
Cool game 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
They say that megadrive has superior fm sound... Yes...
It sounds like farting. On amiga was top. Btw nice play cubex.
I think this is based on lotus 2.
It is Lotus 2. Lotus 2 RECS on the Mega Drive is LOTUS III: The Ultimate Challenge
yeehaaaa
Reminds me of Outrun
Good but music was better on the Commodore Amiga
so many empty trucks crossing the road...
the amiga version is better
naturally
If you close your eyes,it just sounds like a 2600 game and if you close them for 5 mins, you will fall asleep
Megadrive racing games without music and sfx at the same time is just flat out lazy,if nes rad racer can do it then megadrive can do it
then hurrah to matt
Oh my, they butchered the Amiga MOD.
Mega Drive can do a lot better than this.
аааа ебать ностальгия
They don't even let u play music while racing, how tacky.
wheres the in game music like the amiga version?
This is Lotus 2 on the Amiga. There was no in game music in that game.
Oh my god, the music really sucks compared to the amiga version...
Of course...
the Fm chip obviously isn't used in this game, and of course the result is horrible
the AMIGA version is better
Naturally
My friend could never understand why SLUGPACE was the password to get faster cars.
😂
