    Hello alright, could you do a tutorial explaining how you used Luxcore passes to do caustics together with cycles? The same way you posted on Instagram. Congratulations on the great job.

    Maybe this goes against the point of the video, but could you do a tutorial on how you would produce something similar natively in Blender 🙏 I'm trying to build and understanding of good lighting in general for cars

    ok but I wish they made perpetual licenses not subscription model.

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that's true, I prefer perpetual as well. But to be fair, they do have a perpetual license in there, but it's more pricy than the indie license. I also see it as a tool not everybody will buy because of its pricetag. However compared to other tools out there for software like C4D and Max 95 GBP per year is actually not so much. I think that the prices on the "blender market" is just much lower than most other places in the industry.

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 4 роки тому +1

      I really hate these license, so many developpers turn towards this. It kinda forcing the app on users and they need to keep licensing in order to use. I find that very very bad towards the user. I wish users could still make the choice to upgrade or not. These models for software cost a user much more money. I knew about this app a couple years ago and find it quite expensive for what it does. Yes it easier, but a couple 100 a year for a license?! One aother thing is that i find the difference between Pro and Indie also quite unbalanced. The only difference is the support, thats almost $300 difference?!

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 4 роки тому +1

      @@DanielVesterbaek But if your a hobbiest you cant really apply for Indie. I guess they need proof of a valid registered company

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 4 роки тому +1

      @@DanielVesterbaek Where did you see a perpetual license, i only see the single node locked version aka $1200

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому

      @@RomboutVersluijs That is true. The price-jump seems big, but I suppose it's more just about making it cheaper for the indie users. If you think about the automotive industry there is so much money in that. If Volkswagen wants to render cars, they don't care so much about the pricetag. So I think the indie licenses are really for the freelancers and hobby people and a way for them to be able to use it. The indie license is also allowed to be used for hobby as well by the way ^^
      And the perpetual license they have is called "single user permanent". :)

  • @RomboutVersluijs

    When you talked about the reflection on the clearcoat and the metalic paint below. Its actually kind a weird that the lights deadone the side of the car dont show reflection of the lights just like that gradient did on the roof and the other side. IS that perhaps due to blender not showing reflections of certain light types?

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah... I think it's actually just my materials. I gotta re-work them. The clear coat is not working as it should. I remember you talked about the clear coat in cycles not being so accurate - For this reason I also made my own, but I still don't like it so much

    When you change the size of that proxy for the final render. Doesnt make a huge difference in the final render? I mean normally how environments lights give much more detailed and power in the light if they are better quality.

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому +1

      No, no - When you change from proxy to final render the lighting intensity will stay the same. It's 1:1 - The only difference is the quality ^^

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 3 роки тому +1

      @@DanielVesterbaek yeah that's what I meant to say, I had quite some typos (mobile UA-cam). More details can also mean seeing details you don't won't. Just like in your final render. We suddenly see reflections of that multiplied HDR you added in the beginning. Sometimes you don't want that sort of details. But I guess one should do more testing near the end with higher proxy settings

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому

      @@RomboutVersluijs Yes, I think so too. I experienced the same - That the car looked a bit different after rendering the final, but it was only because of the quality of the texture. The brightness values were very very close. But yes, I usually bump up the proxy in the end when I start on all the details.

    DO you happen to use Photoshop? I noticed the curves editor in the color panel works weird. In photoshop when you make an S curve ( so light up and dark down) it gives a more contrast rich image. I noticed in Blender it doesnt work like that. Perhaps my setup was corrupt orso. But i found that really strange behavior

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, for this image I also took it into PS in the end. I think it might be because in Blender the curve is adjusting the linear image before applying the Filmic transform and if you use the curve in PS then you are applying it directly to the sRGB image, so it would be after the Filmic transform

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 3 роки тому +2

      @@DanielVesterbaek I don't know what's is happening. It looked somewhat like it's flipped or so. I haven't investigated thoroughly eniuj. I also seem to have issues with filmic, I tend to find the whites somewhat yellowish and not nice.

    • @DanielVesterbaek
      @DanielVesterbaek  3 роки тому

      @@RomboutVersluijs I am also really curious to get started on using ACES for my project. That should do the trick. Filmic is so much better than sRGB I think, but it's still not entirely there

      Yes, you can use HDR Light Studio standalone - and load an alembic or collada scene, light it, and save out the HDRI map to use in any software.
