This particular model has a phenomenal radio tuner and audio output. With quality headphones and a strong FM signal, it produces the best FM audio I have ever heard out of any portable FM tuner. The AM reception and tuner is phenomenal as well, outperforms any other portable I have tried. At night I pick up broadcasts from across the Atlantic. For as cheap as these go nowadays, it’s worth buying one just for the am/fm radio.
Oh man. This device reminds me of your videos of your room and walkarounds with your "old" computers like the Compaq :) Also, I believe you made a video of your police radio (if I remember right), good to see you still doing these videos, I've been subscribed since 2010-2009
I think handheld TVs are just the coolest thing. I have a Casio SY-20 that I got for my 8th birthday on September 10th 2001! I took it out of the white box it was in and thought that it was a radio until I turned it over and saw that it was a TV!
After watching your video, I decided to get a Sony Watchman for the first time, in August 2014. During the first few days, I had to decide between getting an FD-30A or an FD-10A. However, I was able to have both of them, and they're working great. The FD-30A I have is from May 1984, and the FD-10A I have is from May 1987. My FD-30A did not come with a case, but it works great, anyway. My FD-10A has some overscan compared to the FD-30A, but that aside, it is still working great.
You have just inspired me to get one of these Mini TVs even though analog TV is dead I can still use it for a monitor and then theres the radio. I would really like to find one that supports audio thru the A/V input. I will have to watch the thrift shops for these.
That battery clip holder reminds me of the battery clip that came with my APH Handi-Cassette II portable tape recorder. I wonder if Sony developed a rechargeable battery pack that you'd install in place of the standard Alkaline AA batteries, if so, I wonder if you could recharge batteries in the unit simply by plugging in the AC Adaptor, that's the case with my APH Handi-Cassette II, though I don't use the rechargeable battery that came with it. I'd love to get the Australian PAL version.
Try inserting a 3.5mm plug in and out of the headphone and video-in jacks a few times. Both of those jacks cut off the sound when something is inserted, so there could be some oxidation that needs to be broken.
They look waterproof, but I think they're more splash resistant. I also have a Casio TV-970D that I got for my 9th birthday. They really come in handy. I made a USB to barrel plug cable so I could power them both from a PC and use them to test set top boxes. Can I shoot you a personal message regarding some fluorescent lights were having trouble with?
Lots of people keep forgetting the only reason we have things easier is because old school . And back in the day stuff was built to last not to just break and replace.
I have only one analog station left in Syracuse NY 14 now cw6 now 3.2 digital. my direct tv still has it as 14 time Warner cable has it as 6. so a tv like this is still good because 14 still has the news so in a power outage u can still get news at6 pm as it's low power station analog
since the watchman is only made for antenna, not cable, you can only tune in VHF. the UHF channel is probably over-the-air, check without the cable hooked up. if you hook up a TV designed for cable, it should get more channels.
Damn that thing's got a good speaker in it, the music sounds really good for such a small portable device, that speaker seems way more than adequate for listening on your own or with a few friends. I'm sure that you can get very good stereo sound with headphones if you want. Do you get stereo sound from the TV when watching TV programs with stereo sound?
I think it was the Bearcat 72XLT. Damn, i remember the hacking, I just suddenly out of the blue discovered that you were no longer posting videos and then I checked your channel out. Pretty stupid someone could do that, but that's life.
There's a composite video input, but it's only video, no audio. You could use an RF modulator to generate an RF signal that you could feed through the antenna, though.
holy shit a portable CRT these guys were pretty crazy at the times. I would love to see if it can be modded like a portable CRT video game, that would be even crazier.
I assume you're talking for the video-in jack? It's a cable that goes from a 3.5mm headphone jack to a standard composite video plug. Camcorders use to come with them. If you search you can probably find one online. Note that it's video-only - no sound.
Uxwbill's also a fan of portable TV's, but I'm sure you already knew taht without my telling you, I'm sure you've seen the videos he's made about multiple portable TV's, I think he has a Sony Watchman, but it's a different model to this one.
I just found one of these. Too bad they switched everything to digital from analog. Another unfortunate thing is that the av in port seems to not work.
I went to the hotel room first time I disconnect the cable behind the hotel TV hook it up to my small black and white TV 5 inch I pick up analog cable channels from the hotel
What kinda university here doesn't have fiber rolled out? Unless Rogers is only providing cable TV, your university is shafting you, they have FibreOP installed
TheCRTProductions- Videos about the Obsolete World It's absolutely possible to use these with a digital television system; through an analog converter. Your comment is very erratic considering what your UA-cam channel is about. Given that you're obviously a fan of this stuff like myself, why would you consider this a "pile of trash"?

Congratulations. You have convinced me into wanting one of these. The TV is just all-around great.

damn, it would be so wicked to have this in 90', back then i didn't even know that this thing existed..

MrMaguire. So do I! I think they're the coolest too!
It must have been tragic to see the horrifying images of the World Trade Center on fire on your new birthday gift the next day, wasn't it?

Awesome!
I have two of these (FD-210BE and FD-AEB20). They still work perfectly in my country and I can get a lot of stations.

I just a Watchman for Christmas. It's an FD-30A. The 3.5mm cables I had worked on it, and the TV portion seems to work very well. :)
Older AM radios will often have wider bandwidth since music was more common on AM back then. I'm guessing that was 1260 CKHJ on AM
The analog over air broadcasting turned off many years ago in Norway, but luckily we still have analog cable.

when you value history and you know the value of time it is the Sony watchman the best of the best is the memory in a piece of electronic history

Cool video 👍👌 and I like the appreciation for old school.
Nice review, which one are best to connect to a digital box converter?

thecooldude9999 US Watchma might tune to Japanese Channels 1 to 3 (90-108 MHz)

Do you think someone could play GameCube on that TV? There's some sort of video hook ups on it right?
There's a composite video input, but it's only video, no audio. You could use an RF modulator to generate an RF signal that you could feed through the antenna, though.
How many do you want? Have 6 various models
Hey man hope u get this still but how can I turn on the TV mode without the corrds plz it's my mom's old 1
I'm not sure I understand your question. It turns on just by turning the power switch on.
@themaritimegirl o sorry I ment how to make it work today cuz in the video u used a cord and I don't have 1
Hi it's me again BTW the radio works but tv no are u still able to use tv mode in 2024 cuz tv mode doesn't work
Is there a way to get it to transmit the signal wirelessly?
I made a video exactly about that: ua-cam.com/video/kqetXGthMyw/v-deo.html
@@themaritimegirl is it possible to instead having it broadcast a vcr, but switch it to a tv Antenna to pick up channels?

Does this TV - Radio has shortwave?
Nope.
I’m curious how did you make that scratch,it’s really annoying for some reason the set is so perfect nice tv 😊

I assume your issue is that you're not getting audio? The video input is just that - video only. No audio.
@@themaritimegirl With a little work it's possible to rig up a homemade broadcast that can still get a full signal on a handheld TV like that.
very nice review
Cool! I’m from Fredericton. 👍

I want a watchman sooooo badly.
But it probably won't be very useful, especially in Sweden where i live since most watchmens where only NTSC
PAL Watchman sets are very common - I just looked on the UK eBay, and there are lots of them for cheap prices.
Oh, im just a bit uneducated on pocket tv's then. Also isn't PAL pocket tv's only UHF?
Yes, appears they have only the UHF band.
themaritimegirl PAL-I for UK, PAL-B/G for Germany, PAL-D/K for Czech.
themaritimegirl Check this portable watchman multisystem TV
Look what I found on AliExpress
s.aliexpress.com/aAjA3eEv
i remember this
they have other like this I saw some other one that has a switch for NTSC pal 1 pal 2 can't remember name and u can get pal and 2

Awww I wanted to see the duck 😢
We got analog TV in Sacramento California
lol I'm sure he jumped a little at 13:49.
Who's he? I'm right here.
The sudden change in volume did catch me off-guard. :P

I was thinking something scary was going to happen but I was surprised it was an advert that jumped out of the screen!
I heard you say Rogers and nearly "boo-ed" out loud.
It sure is nice not being able to use such a machine here in the digital age, i'm glad no one can be going around using such an obsolete pile of trash
