Oh gosh, this song just sticks in your mind once you've heard it - I will be hearing it all day now LOL! Great song though, great reactions from you two too!😁

I visited friends in Moscow last year and this song was being blasted all over the loudspeakers in Red Square. I’m told that Boney M is wildly popular in Russia.

@hawkmaster381 Really, that is cool Hawk. I didn't know they were that popular there. 🤩

@ I was stationed in Europe before I retired, and I can tell you that the rest of the world is about 30 years behind America in musical taste. Germany, Belgium, France (and apparently Russia) are still in the disco era. And rightly so. Disco is better than today’s music anyway, IMO.

Fun, typically catchy Boney M number ! .. interestingly, about a year later in 1979, the German group Dschinghis Khan ( known as Genghis Khan in Australia ) had a hit with another very catchy Russian sounding ( but sung in German ) song called "Moskau" ( "Moscow" ) .. They also released an English version of it which was huge in Oz, staying at No.1 for 6 weeks .. We used it as the theme music for our coverage of the 1980 Moscow Olympics .. But outside of Europe and Australia, I don't think it charted significantly anywhere else .. Check out both versions if you get some time, Sue .. But I have to warn you, it's a real ear-worm !😊

@wayne_twentyfive Hey Wayne, you are correct, that band is not known here in Canada but I am interested in hearing them. I do like a good catchy song 🤩💕

Great song and I believe the band was huge in Russia. I remember seeing a concert style tv show of the band performing in Russia, which at the time was a big deal (cold war). A buddy of mine is a big fan of the group and whenever he comes over it's like "Play some Boney M".

Damn Bonny M....a big part of my childhood before rock and metal took my soul. Bobby Farrell was awesome, a man who danced like he had a feral ferret stuck down his pants and was desperately trying to get it out......🤣😅

🤣🤣 haha, I have never heard of his dancing described as that, A. But boy that was good. He was an amazing dancer...very under appreciated by many. It was a great song. Thanks for the laugh 🥰

    Oh, those Russians.
I remember spinning this song a week before it was officially released as I got an advanced copy as a fairly prominent DJ of the time. Didn't fill the dance floor like 'Daddy Cool' though.
Around the same time another popular one was 'I Love America' by Patrick Juvet. Just sayin'.
A couple of songs I used to jump from one to the other using 2 turntables was "Le Freak' by Chic, and "Can You See The Light' by Brass Construction. I could keep people filling the dance floor for around 12 minutes. Very popular in their day.

@RobertHoward-d8g How cool is the Robert. You must have had so much fun as a dj. Yes Daddy Cool is a good one. I have never heard of I Love America. That will be one for me to listen to 🥰

This song is impossible to get rid of ! Just like the real Rasputin who i believe was stabbed , shot , poisoned , drowned before he died
Song only touches on the story
On a separate but related note
I watched the Milli Vanilli documentary and it was excellent

@jessem470 Haha you are so right, Jesse. It will be with us forever which is ok by me because I really enjoy it. Oh I didn't know there was a doc about them. I will see if I can find it 🥰💙

Rasputin passed away in Petrograd, which became Leningrad, before reverting to its pre-revolution name of……
    St. Petersburg.
Is it coincidence that Bobby Farrell passed away in the same city 94 years later to the day? Probably, who knows. But what are the chances? 🤔

Boney M in a way never existed, all the records were made by producer Frank Farian in Germany. Yes, the 3 women did sing on the records (Backing vocals) but the guy Bobby Farrell never sang a note, he just mimed and danced.

      @playitagainsue  28 днів тому

@philjones45 Hey Phil, yes I knew Bobby didn't sing. Both Liz and Marcia sang lead on their songs. Still a good song 🤩
