I've wanted to live in Alaska since I was a teenager. The only thing stopping me is the guilt I'd feel for living so far from my family lol

The assembly attempts at power grabs over the mayor issue is mind blowing. I can't believe the garbage the assembly gets away with. The homeless issue is here and it can persist into the winter. The local Walmart corners and larger parking lots in midtown can look more like hosted parties than "homeless" gatherings. But I can say i haven't had many issues like I did in Portland.
The assembly is pretty embarrassing. It's stuff like that keeps the Eagexit alive.
How does homelessness work in Alaska? How the hell do they survive winter?
A lot of them gravitate to Anchorage where they have shelters during the winter. When it's the summer, a lot of them will camp out.
The city of anchorage uses hotels and sporting arenas to house the homeless in the winter. In the summer pretty much any tree line and park has homeless issues
They converted Sullivan arena into a shelter. They also have a shelter in downtown. Still some of them just live in tents on the streets.

I was told that Alaska begins 30 miles outside of Anchorage!
Where would I go for area specific information about homelessness rates or presence? Also, what is the best source to get an understanding of local politics for anchorage, Eagle river, and Wasilla?
I believe there are a lot of local departments with the city government that you can check out, but info might be a bit sparse.
Is there a map of AK areas without a property tax? I remember seeing one on the city-data forum but it was a dead link.
I'm sure there's one somewhere but I couldn't say for sure
