I'm certainly not trying to argue that we don't have stupid people in America and I sure as hell won't be offering a defense for the dunces in this video, but how about viewing this subject with some perspective? There are stupid people everywhere. Often times it doesn't matter who their teachers were, how skilled those teachers may have been, or what curriculum the teachers used... There is an overabundance of stupid people in this world and a lot of them simply don't care that they are stupid. There are some that even wallow in their own ignorance - they're not just stupid, they are actually anti-intellectuals.
If you paid me roundtrip airfare to the UK, and gave me a few days for filming and editing, I guarantee you I could produce a video showing absolute morons that would rival the idiots seen in this video. The same goes for any other place on the planet. Do you recall a couple of years ago when there were a rash of _geniuses_ in the UK that were trying to burn down 5G towers out of fear that those towers were causing illness and disease _(specifically one particular disease that was on most people's minds in 2020)?_ Would it be a fair statement to say, "I don't see that kind of stupidity anywhere else around the world."? _(Hint: The answer to that question is, "No. That wouldn't be fair.")_
There are idiots all across the globe and it would behoove you to remember that edited videos made for the sake of entertainment showing the dumbest of the dumb giving ridiculous answers to simple questions does not serve as a fair indictment of a nation's public school system. Neither does your personal anecdote about some dimwitted bartender you met in Philadelphia. Perspective, dude. Perspective.

I don't blame the education system, I blame the individual for not being curious enough about the world to inform themselves of the basics.
I went through the UK education system in the 1970s, the curriculum was shite. We didn't do historic events or famous people in history, we didn't study the globe in geography.
We had no internet, we had no history channel...We had books and an occasional interesting documentary on one of the 3 TV channels.

✨💖✨…and these are the folks who either vote now or will be voting for our leaders and the future of Constitutional Rights for all Americans. If they do indeed vote. Too many Americans don’t know how our government works and even more don’t care.
Thank you for backing our educators. Before I retired, I had worked in the libraries of several school districts, including overseas DOD schools, and in public libraries. I’ve spent time in classrooms teaching and substituting in many capacities. We were a military family. I also had the shear pleasure of reading books to children of all ages for many years. So I certainly appreciate that all folks don’t hold educators accountable for the complete ignorance of the younger generations.
Frankly, a great share the of blame goes to parents. Education must start at home with books, reading, discussions, etc. Very few prodigies come about by chance. Most come out of homes or situations where there was opportunity to learn, an opportunity for excellence. Buy your kids books. Read to them. Let them see you reading. You don’t have to be Einstein. Pick up your favorite NASCAR magazine, if that is what you’re into, and read it. Heck, I don’t care if it’s comic books. Just something they will pick up and look at. Get a globe, and put it within reach. Look at it with your children. Kids are sponges. Make sure they pick up what you want them to. You don’t have to raise up a genius, just a functional adult who can read, fill out a job application, tell time, make change and understands how this country works.
    That is all I ask.

I’m glad you pointed out it’s not the teachers fault - they have to teach what’s on the curriculum and nothing else. It’s the same in state schools here (but it’s nationalised across the country) - it doesn’t vary by county/state like it does there. Unfortunately the American education system is fairly narrow in comparison to other countries (I only say that from my experience of the curriculum in one state though) and the fact that your school exams are all multiple choice questions doesn’t help! Kids here have to know and write the answers - several paragraphs for shorter questions and entire essays too, in an exam. To be fair though, you can find people like this anywhere, including the UK!

I'm from The Netherlands and often can't believe my ears hearing the answers that are given in these kind of video's.
BUT I can understand it when they are giving these answers about Europe. Not always and not that "Paris is in Italy" answers. The US is so big, why should people go to Europe on vacation? It's probably very expensive while for lots of Europeans it is normal to go to another country once or twice a year. Paris is 500 kilometers from here. Hear and learn a bit or a lot about other cultures in Europe while being there and see everything for real at the same time instead of seeing it on pictures.
The teachers here do also deserve more money i.m.o.
Because good education can solve a lot of small and very big problems. It's an important basic thing.
No I was not a sweet girl at school. Not at all. So when I start working, I went to school in the evenings and on saturday. That was not funny but it was my own fault and otherwise I couldn't become what I wanted to be.

Question: " Who fought in the Civil War? "
My answer: " That's easy. The Roundheads and the Cavaliers. "
While both of you might think that's the wrong answer it isn't really because the question itself isn't very specific, is it? It should actually be " Who fought in the AMERICAN Civil War? ", shouldn't it? If it was directed at British people like myself then my answer would be correct because I interpreted it from my own British perspective and adjusted it in my head to be " Who fought in the ENGLISH Civil War? ".
Furthermore I would've gone on to ask which English Civil War was the question about? That's because there were 3 of them in the mid-17th Century and each of them were fought between the Roundheads ( the Parliamentarians ) and the Cavaliers ( King Charles I's supporters ). Pshaw to all of you Americans - we Brits don't do anything by half measures, do we? We had 3 Civil Wars whereas you only had a paltry 1, didn't you? ✌😎✌
By the way, when it comes to your measly American Civil War it was between the Union ( the northern states ) and the Confederacy ( the southern states ) and was mainly fought over the emancipation of the slaves throughout the entire country, wasn't it? 👍😁👍

You can check out our version of family feud called family fortunes. A funny one was a guy answering turkey to every question: what do you take to the beach, what do you eat at Christmas …. Got the highest score on one question all others were 0. Can’t remember the other questions but they didn’t include turkeys.

Unfortunately stupidity is not limited to Americans. I'm English and have many, many cousins... trying to talk to them about anything other than xbox or celebrity gossip is impossible - not only do they not know, but they seem to actively TRY not to learn. I'm a global IT manager, so when one of them became an IT support engineer for a well known company, I thought "great, we have something to talk about".... Nope. He follows a flow chart, speaks a script... absolutely no independent thought what-so-ever. I'm not smart - I failed all of my exams, never went to college or University. But even I meet people and think "Damn, you are NOT trying at all are you?" There's nothing wrong with not knowing... but there is something wrong with not trying to do better...

I'm amazed that it takes someone from another country to tell you people you've been getting fudged up your pie-hole your whole life no matter who you vote for. Stop watching watching TV and do some research.

Amateur anthropologist here. This is called a 'synapse trip'. All life forms learn by dropping your consciousness into sub-think. It's your critical think space, where you do all your working out, remembering facts, and complex language. Americans aren't stupid, but unlike most advanced nations your education system socially criticises wrong answers. It doesn't ask questions of its students, and prioritises other things like sports and social standing.
These people lack the skills to drop into sub-think. They answer each question like it should be in the conscious like walking or eating but it isn't. When they try to drop into sub think they either don't want to or feel it should be automatic. It's a failing of teacher training, critical thinking education (also reflected in some of your representatives), and budget.
Bare in mind that some of these will become teachers. By 2050 US education will be a national scandal and those who deny it will be Christo-fascists and the stupid.

It certainly does show that they are afraid to answer as if so scared. I would have maybe given an educated guess or perhaps 3 answers after a pause for thought, knowing I had already technically failed it; but these just clam up, each with the expresion of a deer in headlights!

Not to offend anyone but this isn’t that uncommon. I worked at an office in Annapolis, MD and I was the only immigrant. I had my citizenship exam and I started asking my coworkers the questions and you won’t believe the answers I got! They were also surprised that I had to take a history test to become a citizen 😂😂 To be fair, on the other hand I should mention that my American classmates are also very bright and hardworking. I agree with you that this only exposes the educational system. Thanks for your reaction.

How stupid we as a nation have become. We need to get back to teaching history, geography, grammar, math, science..etc. what used to be the “ core” curriculum. And if a person isn’t learning..he fails the class..and has to redo. An exam should be required at the end of every class at semester end. America has become a laughing stock to the world.

I have a problem with the last question. There's always a number bigger than the one before.
You might think "infinity", but that's not a number. The biggest named number I can think of is a googolplex, but a googolplex x a googolplex is bigger. A googolplex to the power of a googolplex is bigger yet. A googolplex factorial is even bigger than that.

A lot of knowledge comes from out of school sources, such as the internet, TV and books, but you have to be open and enthusiastic to engage in gaining extra knowledge....I think the new society is to get away with what's needed, and no more by too many! There is no curiousity, no hunger, no passion to expand one's mind, just to cruise through life with the barest effort.....to those who try I applaud you, to those who don't, try and better yourself, for yourself and the future of your children or relatives.
