And I mean that in a good way; it's very clever writing, I dig it.
I forgot to comment about it on the day the video came out, but anyway: It's kinda interesting to me how the Tingle game and the Love-de-Lic legacy games in general have that Takeshi Kitano film vibe. A lot of humor, silly adventures galore, weirdos finding each other in the wild, but with overall central themes that are deep as deep can be. I've the impression that you're not a movie guy at all, at least not in the traditional OOH YAS I'M ZE CINEPHILE, but I highly recommend giving a chance to Kitano's work, specially Kikujiro and Sonatine. Definitely influenced by growing up with it, but DS is still my favourite console by a long shot. The sheer install base, combined with the more or less PS1 era hardware (making development affordable) led to an incredibly large amount of quirky, experimental games. It was kind of a unique moment in mainstream video games that I somewhat doubt we will see again.
indeed, with more hardware come the push for much less experimental games, also because people wont pay 5$ for any of these games presented here where as all these were at least 20 if not 40 back then.
For better or worse (usually worse ngl) the lax standards of the switch and it's handheld nature have made it a go-to choice for lots of indie stuff so, in a sense, the embers of those experimental days are still kindling. Nowadays with the 4K generation in full swing, i'd say the future of low barrier to entry console stuff is looking grim
Jump SuperStars was my first import and I adored it enough that I preordered Jump Ultimate Stars from some Japanese dude on eBay, hooked me up real good getting it pretty much release day. In my baby days I went through 2 DS Lites and finally received the Mario 25th Anniversary red DSi XL for Christmas, after begging my parents for it from watching the commercials on TV (you know the one - with the kids hijacking the school play to ask their parents for it). I still remember, they made a scavenger hunt out of it, I had to go all around the house finding notes with little riddles until I finally found it in, of all places, the dryer. Well over a decade later, I still have that same system, and it's still chugging on strong, despite the original stylus being so worn that it just falls out if you pick the system up at an angle (though I NEVER LOST IT, FUCK YEAH. I did lose the big fountain pen stylus though, but c'mon, there was nowhere to put it), and the display hinge being worn to the point the screen will just wobble back and forth if you let it, it still works, and the original battery surprisingly holds a very good charge still. I've installed custom firmware that allows me to play most .NDS roms from the SD card without issue, and is still in active development to fix existing bugs. If you want though, you can boot into the original firmware on the system, and find all my relics of childhood days. Pictures of little idiot me in the DSi Camera app, flipnotes I saved off of Flipnote Hatena that truly serve as a time capsule, the Four Swords Adventures DSiWare release that was available for free for about a month, the Brain Age DSiWare games that I despised and never played, and some other dinky DSi shovelware from when I actually used Club Nintendo (RIP). In my opinion the DSi XL is still the absolute best way to experience DS games, running at original resolution on the surprisingly vibrant screen, tinny speakers, and gunky plastic overlay of the touch screen. I absolutely love this system.
Love your channel bud but both Dementium games was released in North America on the ds and was actually my first video game reviews on its first release though it super cringy now so I might have to remake it.

Ultimate Butoden's a pretty rad, so it's cool that you covered it. But it's worth pointing out that the fan translation only really covers the main menu text (which can accidentally be swapped back to Japanese if you change the decals to any of the others you unlock), the pause menu, a few of the attack names and *some* of the menus. Stuff like the cutscenes, item descriptions, and plenty of the attacks go untranslated, making it harder to appreciate the game than its existence might suggest. Perhaps it would be difficult to redo the dialogue text and their timing, placement, etc. during cutscenes, but I do wish that the translators had the time to at least make the rest more understandable. Also, because I'm a massive pedantic, Ultimate Butoden is pretty much a sequel to Final Bout in name only. Final Bout was the last game in the Super Butoden series of fighting games, developed by famous Japanese ~shadow company~ Tose during the early-mid 90s along with pretty much every other Dragon Ball game up til then. Meanwhile, Ultimate Butoden was made by Game Republic - who made the Genji games, Folklore on the PS3, and the weird but kinda cool looking Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom. From what I've heard, Ultimate doesn't play much like the Super Butoden games, with the latter's focus on split-screen combat when you and your opponent are at different heights being totally gone. The same goes for the 3DS game Extreme Butouden, which was made by an entirely differently developer (Arc System Works) and plays more like a proto-FighterZ than anything from either the originals or Ultimate. So yeah, Butoden's pretty much just a name for these two games, but I guess it does get folks thinking 'bout or checking out the older ones, which is pretty great. :) (Sorry this is so long)

(Sorry this is so long)
Great video as always! Wish you covered Chibi-Robo Clean Sweep though its my 2nd favorite lov-de-lic legacy game right next to moon

i like how thor has apparently no idea what the wizard of oz is
The DS has my all-time favorite library of games, I still find new titles to play even years later
My body is ready, for a glorious future CONTACT video

Holy shit Butoden looks good! Very impressive character models & animations!
You've cemented yourself as one of my favorite youtubers when you said you'd defend Sonic Chronicles OST
That "Dumb Thorb" scene convinced me that this guy must actually speak Spanish natively; those spanish insults sounded so crisp and without an accent that it must be that way puta madre
by the way I subscribed, presentation is P E R F E C T O
I am about to try Chibi-Robo: Clean Sweep! I came here to see some good Japanese exclusive games. That Dragon Ball game caught my attention, it looks so crisp! Already have some games from this video. DS visuals remind me of PS1 but they are still different in their own way.
Never have I been more embarrassed for laughing out loud at a fart.
I’m not far into this video at all, but the dual dual screen format is genius, thor. Such an engaging idea. Gives me p l a y e r c h o i c e of what i wanna see too. dope shit
Well this has been thoroughly enjoyable, i like your style basura brain, consider me subscribed!
8:34 i was sent into an uncontrollable laughing fit
The DS will always be my number 1, shouts out to yung 2 screens
Talking about a game that would have probably never been released to the public if not for Nick Robinson and then immediately dissing Nick Robinson was just... Oof
Definitely intentional but odd. I get really confused when it comes to this guy. I see tons of people praise him for his work in lots of different ways including the recent monkey ball stuff but he also has his round of Twitter drama. Not really sure what to make of it all
