  • I review the darche 180 degree awning side wall's after already running the darche 180 degree awning for close to a year now. Is it worth spending the $460 on?

      I try to be as honest as possible on all my reviews. Overall the awning & the walls are top quality and I wouldn't run anything else on my car from now on. Fantastic products that's going to completely change our comfort levels while camping. There's not many awnings on the market that offer side wall's along with their awnings but you've got it spot on 👌 love the single zip to secure the entire 3 walls. I trust that a lot more than clips or Velcro 👍

    I'm sold on it after this video, that's a really usable amount of shade, especially with the poles angled out (luckily spigots and spike bases can be retrofitted for pocket change).

    They're definitely a great bit of gear - I would have preferred the side walls to be two separate pieces for those times you only want to have half installed for a wind break or sun shade

    I have just purchased a teardrop camper that has the exact same set up.
    The slide zip was crushed and I needed to order a new one.
    The advice they gave me was when packing up always leave the slide zip half way between the arms to prevent it from being crushed by the hinges.
    Hopefully this helps.

    Just use your heel or back of an axe head to put a little hole in the ground for your pole to sit in. That's all I do and it works fine as long as you re-tension the poles after everything is tied down.

  • @silknfeathers

    Had the 180 Awning and walls for over 5 years now. The walls take a little while to put up, but they are a good addition. You can purchase side walls (designed to go on to standard awnings) from Darche which will, with a little adaptation, fit into the sail track of the parallel arms (side arms) to form back walls. However, they do not meet up with the main walls to form a complete shelter. It certainly does add some cover and privacy. My biggest concern is that, after five years, the main canvas on the awning itself is starting to go. I've made three repairs already and I'm anticipating buying a new awning this year (we'll see how it goes, on the road for most of this year). I like the Bush Company awning, but not their walls. The Ocam awning and walls look great, but not sure about the quality.

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  7 місяців тому

      5 years is excellent 👍 I'm now running the camp king industries 270 degree awning. But it's very expensive because it's one of the only fully Australian made awnings on the market so I don't recommend it to everyone. But you won't find better quality 💪👌

    • @silknfeathers
      @silknfeathers 7 місяців тому

      Seriously, five years is excellent? For canvas? I don't think so...@@Campingdownunder

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  7 місяців тому

      @silknfeathers darche don't use top quality canvas unlike camp king. They are a mid range awning. I understand they aren't cheap but still they have to be made to a cost. If you felt the difference in canvas between a darche awning compared to the camp king industries awning I use now you'll see the difference in quality. Australia is a harsh climate and everything eventually deteriorates in the hot sun. The quality just determines how long it takes

    Im after a new awning and spending the money is not an issue if i get quality. Ive had Kings gear over the years and It does the job but its the low end of the market bendy and lightweight. This awning looks good and the walls is a great option. I have a van so I can only get a 180 degree awning to suit. I think they need a version 3. Your issues u have high lighted could fix this and it would be perfect otherwise do some modifications add some extra poles and spikes and it will make a huge difference.. good video. cheers

    Im looking at getting the darche 180 eco with walls. i have a similar setup to your ute, except the tub rack instead of canopy with the kings rtt. Just wondering if you had any issues with installing the awning and if the rtt gets in the way when the awning is closed and when you open it up(as in can you open the awning fully to the rear) and is there a gap between the rear of the awning and your rtt? cheers

    Great review ! We’ve had ours for 5 months having trouble at the very the start of the zip getting it in to make it run and join to awning… …matched the tags to make sure on right spots but seems to get really stuck takes ages to get it going… if we haven’t given up beforehand frustrating … any suggestions plse to make zip get in at the start ?

    • @Campingdownunder
      @Campingdownunder  2 роки тому

      Yeah I actually had the same issue recently. The zipper itself had been slightly crushed on the side which made it hard to slide the zip all the way in to start it. I bent it out and it worked again. But I have noticed it is always difficult to start even when both zips are lined up properly. It can get very frustrating. Best way is to get someone else to support the weight of the walls while you are trying to start the zip so there's no pressure on the zip

  • @robertanderson5796

    I’m really surprised with the sag. Are you sure you have your straps tight. I’ve been using this setup for over twelve months and never had that issue.

      Sounds like a faulty product. My zip never come apart & I used it for several years. I'd be taking it back & exchanging it. The zip is hard to start but once it's zipped it should hold the entire time. I had mine in over 30km winds and held up

      For some reason I had a heap of people asking me the same question at the 4wd show recently. I showed them its impossible for water to build up inside the bag as there are 2 eyelets at the bottom of the bag allowing any water that is still left on the awning when packing it up to drain out the bottom. Unless they've changed the design in the past year & removed the 2 holes then I have no idea what people are talking about 🤷‍♂️
