Excellent video, I really enjoyed watching it. Just my 10 cents worth, I'd always buy bare root but also I would go to the nursery and get it dug out, that way it doesn't need to be pruned to be sent by post. When we arrived here 20 years ago we actually had a cider apple orchard but we grafted on some eating apples too and we now have a good mixed orchard. We learned pruning and we got free grafting wood by volunteering at an apple conservatory to do their orchard pruning for a day - it was an excellent way to learn and fun too! All the very best, Sue
@Karo Chowning You are welcome and I hope you'll find somewhere that offers this, our pruning day was at Berrington Hall in Herefordshire UK. It was a lovely setting and we got lunch too! All the best from Normandie, Sue
+dancingcedar your welcome! Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed it. Your comment is encouraging, and motivates me to continue producing videos 😃
Thanks Lisa, I appreciate those kind words. I’m glad to hear the channel is making an impact on you, and I hope it brings you to big harvest in the future
Your peaches made my mouth water..you can google trees for your zone..I'm going with bare root this winter, it seems to have a better start..thank you James, your amazing
I have gardened all my life. (36 years) However I am just recently am thinking more about permaculture. We have always canned the usual tomatoes and peppers as well as growing raspberries.
You got that right that cuddling a child, it will never leave home. I have seen friends cuddle their children until the parents died, and boy did they cost a lot! LOL
Question ! How far apart should I grow my trees and should I fertilize right away ? I bought a Cherry , Pear ,Plum and New Jersey Blueberry tree .I have Mulch around my 3 season Peach trees 2ft. Around but grass is around the area is this ok ? They are growing new branches but my trees are staying short .I hope all is well with you and Tuck 🙋
Thank you for sharing, I wonder I can plant cherry, apple, plum, n peach trees here but I live in somewhere near equator's line 😂😂 (apple only can be planted on the highland) Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Do how to prune vid on cheery to apple to peach and figs too, cause that thing has bunch of growth all around the ground and I’ve no idea how to cut stuff.just tofay i went out like a hero to prune some trees and stood there like an idiot staring at the peacch tree for like 20 mins until my mother saw me and she thought i was drunk😄
How did you build the blueprint for your food forest? I am adept with the permaculture lifestyle but I need to learn more about it, what would you do with this flower bed? I will send pictures for reference please and thank you, any tips or tricks would be phenomenal. I have about 9ft flower bed that I have built over 2 years in my apartment complex, I want to practice permaculture here. the bed is maybe 9ft x 3ft. I had 10 ft tomatoes trellised with bamboo and twine, 3 jalapenos plants, and over 5 variety of flowers and basil. I am intimidated by fall planting and leafy greens
+Nicholas Wenzel thank you Nicholas that is really encouraging to hear. I have been putting in some extra work to improve the quality so it’s nice to hear its paying off. That’s flattering. I will do everything that I can to inspire you,to be the best version of yourself that you can. “You can have more then you’ve got, because you can become more then you are.”
I have four 25 or more year old pear trees and apple trees the apple trees produceApple's but they have a lot of black spots on the apples and the leaves aroundand the trees themselves have had a lot of diseases in the pastI was just wondering if you had any tips to make the trees better or should I cut them down and replant them somewhere else
Great channel. I'm planning out my suburban backyard, same hardiness zone. I plan to add lots of fruit trees, but I'm actually more interested in ornamental approach, like a potager and have espaliered trees mixed in with broad leaf flowering evergreens. I know you use bark on the bottom of the trees. Just curious how you would go about underplanting with something like rhododendrons below the trees. Thanks for any tips.
+Pa Fe thanks 😁 Oh very cool. Like edible landscaping mixed in with ornamental. Yeah I use wood chips as an organic matter mulch, same as a forest. I would underplant the rhododendron the same time I put the fruit tree in it possible. I would get a young rhodo do it doesn’t shade the tree or cut back the rhodo if necessary. Once the tree canopies over the rhodo you can let the rhodo grow larger.
Good advice James,it obviously works judging by the success of the trees in your food forest. You know the old saying , the best time to plant a tree is ten years ago, the next best time is now, today! Good job.
I have been watching your channel since this summer, I have to say that it is very encouraging. Just starting my food forest in my new yard. Nothing posted yet on youtube. But where are you getting your readings from? Books etc..
That's great to hear. My goal is to motivate, educate, and entertain. That's very exciting!!! The beginning is one of the best parts, you get to envision what you want and then bring it to life. There are a number of different books I have read and some videos I watch. I can give you a more detailed list if you want 😄
That would be awesome! Thanks. Moving from Colorado to lower Michigan, I love the leaves and wood chips for my resource. Already have my hot compost bins going!! Starting from scratch building my own soil as well, with my composting and woodchips. Looking forward to the information and more of your videos.
Please do refer us to whatever books you recommend. I have my heart set on moving to Florida soon and start my very own food forest. I can't think of a better pastime.!
Hi James, I just found your channel and subscribed. We just bought a home in the suburbs. The backyard is small but I want to build a permaculture on it. The ground is hard and rocky. There is however, a huge old apple tree. This year it bore fruit, hundreds of apples, I have never seen an apple tree this large. All of the apples had black holes all over them and were rotted on the tree. I guess my question if you have the time to answer is, how do you know if you should cut a tree down? Or could it be saved? I would rather save it. I don't know what variety it is. The neighbors say it has been here for a long time.
I had moose trouble, they would eat the apple tree so badly that it hardly produced at all. But suckers were growing from the root. I fenced off the tree and let a sucker grow. In three years, it was producing fruit!
Hi. I want to change grass into the mulch under my fruit trees but I am not sure how to colect leaves in autum. My trees are pretty big. What do you do with leaves?
My brother I need your help, planted down a Pear tree earlier this spring. This week I noticed on the leaves, Rust fungus. I had no idea what this was until i began my research. However I havent seen a definitive cure to this, I have seen copper come up numerous times but can you please help me. What can I use to save my tree from this rust fungus
I’m a new subscriber, brand new gardener and home owner. I’m working towards creating my food forest and find your videos truly inspirational. I was wondering what variety of peaches you are growing? I’m trying to figure out what to plant next spring. I live in northern VA.
Are you gonna spend $2 on a soda or $25 on a fruit tree that will feed you the rest of your life? Trees!! You could buy a piece of fruit and plant the seed for less than a soda, haha! 🌱🍌☀️🍍🥭
Thank you James. This was very informative for me because I want to plant some fruit trees. What do you think of trees that are grafted with several different kinds of fruit? Are they as healthy as trees that are not grafted? I like the idea of getting a variety of fruits from one tree if they as healthy as other fruit trees.
James I have seen you make reference to Masanobu Fukuoka in past videos, and I am curious to know if you know about Korean Natural Farming, and the inputs that are created in that system? It's not only organic - it's amazing! Master Cho of Korea is the creator (really great man). Some of his most staunch followers are guys out here (Chris Trump and a guy that calls himself 'Blake'). Check their stuff out!
James, where do you purchase your fruit trees from? Love the vids and the helpful info packed into them! Your little buddy Tuck is quite the hoot, too. Thanks for sharing, zone 6 grower
About grass under fruit tree. I think that this is not always a bad thing. If I plant a fruit tree on standard vigorous rootstock, or on its own roots it will grow large. If grass can reduce a tree height it can be useful.
my husband walked by a apple tree, it looked dead, it just came out of the ground, with no effort? our peach trees get a fur on them and get eaten by that fur, i dont know what to use beside tons of chemicals. i would rather not have them if i have to do that.
Hi James, we get lots of wend in the spring time. And this year I got no cherries because we hot a late frost in the spring when the blossoms we're set. Can you show us you watering system you have for your trees?
I love that! "you can't eat from the tree you don't plant"... Great work.
+Vaughn Malecki thanks bro, it’s going to be my new little sign off saying I think. 😁
P @@jamesprigioni
love the ending comments - so true.
So my teacher said were gonna plant since were already grade 6 and he shared this to us thanks for being informative

Thank you so much for your support Joycelyn! The encouragement inspires me to keep producing more content 😄
I hope Santa brings you a Drone for Christmas for we can see air footage of your food forest. A birds eye view.
My trees are in my lawn. My Georgia Peach tree bloomed and we fruit I planted it last Spring but my Saturn Peach and Native plum trees didn't blossom.
James love your programs
Excellent. Such a concise delivery of essential points. Thank you :)

+OneVision23 Awesome!! Oh nice, how long have you been gardening for?
I have gardened all my life. (36 years) However I am just recently am thinking more about permaculture. We have always canned the usual tomatoes and peppers as well as growing raspberries.

+Lucky Angel Thank you my friend 😁😁
OMG!!! so much good info. Thank u sooooo much
Glad you enjoyed it! Your welcome 😁
I'm just starting my food forest. I'm so excited to grow my own fruit trees!
It is wonderful that you support permaculture, but I'm curious: doesn't using mulch go against what Bill Mollison says is best for a tree?
Do how to prune vid on cheery to apple to peach and figs too, cause that thing has bunch of growth all around the ground and I’ve no idea how to cut stuff.just tofay i went out like a hero to prune some trees and stood there like an idiot staring at the peacch tree for like 20 mins until my mother saw me and she thought i was drunk😄

Superb Presentation, Bro!
If I plant my fruit trees should I put the wood chips up to the trunk of trees or wait
Hey James and peeps. I can't recall some good bare root companies. Any strong recommendations please?
What type of peach trees do you have? I also live in Jersey zone 7.
James do you spray your trees with something ?
Nice info!
What type of peach tree did you plant and do they can in as dwarf size as my property is small?
I have four 25 or more year old pear trees and apple trees the apple trees produceApple's but they have a lot of black spots on the apples and the leaves aroundand the trees themselves have had a lot of diseases in the pastI was just wondering if you had any tips to make the trees better or should I cut them down and replant them somewhere else
Have you tried growth bags... I use Walmart bags..50 / PC...
Where do you buy your trees bushes and grapes
I'm in southern NJ. Where do you order your fruit trees? I'm interested in the Butterscotch Pear. Thanks.
Yes James I want to grow lots of fruits 😔

Very valuable information. I wish I had heard this 20 years ago. I learnt the hard way. Best wishes Bob.

Do all of these tips apply to nut trees as well?

What do you do with suckers coming up from the root?
Robyn Latham thank you. I need to study how.
TheMaltodexter thank you. I have some studying to do. I5 never occurred to me.
What do you do with leaves?
just let them fall on the ground they will help mulch the ground and eventually compost back into the ground
My brother I need your help, planted down a Pear tree earlier this spring. This week I noticed on the leaves, Rust fungus. I had no idea what this was until i began my research. Its wonderful...😋😋😋. Can u give me some friuts now???
+hang huynh Haha! Sure, come pick them up 😂😂
where do you find $25 fruit trees?
I would love to watch your video
Cultivars and variety are different, for example Malus domestica ‘Granny Smith’ is a cultivar, whereas Betula utilis var. jacquemontii is a variety.
Two idiots dislike this.
Great set up, bro, I am inspired, and have just a little more land to play with, plus a couple goats and a bunny.
When would you say is the best time to order bare root trees online?
About grass under fruit tree. I think that this is not always a bad thing. If I plant a fruit tree on standard vigorous rootstock, or on its own roots it will grow large. If grass can reduce a tree height it can be useful.
the wind blows the fruit off my trees
When you posting new videos ? Everything ok.?
💝💝💝🐶💝💝💝
I like your videos man, keep em coming!
However, I've eaten plenty of fruit from trees that I haven't planted lol Just messing with ya.
my husband walked by a apple tree, it looked dead, it just came out of the ground, with no effort?
our peach trees get a fur on them and get eaten by that fur, i dont know what to use beside tons of chemicals. i would rather not have them if i have to do that.
ok, how did you change yourself from this robotic talking in 2017 to now 2022? to be so successfull.. now , please tell me how you changed?
YOU CAN'T EAT FROM A TREE YOU DON'T PLANT!!
...there's something for your mind right there...🤔🤔🤔
+K. Howe yup! 😂
Whoa. That was some fast talking. Thank you for teaching.
You look Syrian, Israeli Jews Sir.
Is anyone else annoyed by the way he talks? Sounds like a robot, love this video btw.
Why do you talk with commas. Please talk normal. I like the content though
Hi James, we get lots of wend in the spring time. And this year I got no cherries because we hot a late frost in the spring when the blossoms we're set. Can you show us you watering system you have for your trees?
