- Here is an early episode of the weekly syndicated version of The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall, where every winner is guaranteed a brand new car, along with the usual assortment of cash and potential Secret Square prizes.
Loved to watch this show as it made me laugh forget my troubles helped me out of my depression in grade jr high hugh school young adult to hear see Paul Lynde Wally Cox Charley Weaver Or Buddy Hacckett others helped me laugh during a very down time in my life ! Have always looked to humor to try to cope !
Good choices, Patti, because all of the people you mentioned also had extreme challenges making a success for themselves.
I loved Paul Lynde's humor. Miss this classic show.
Those Kenmore Washers are probably still going strong!!
Definitely!
I doubt it this is is close to 50 years ago
Well, perhaps so - I recall that we had one (purchased by Mom and Dad) around 1970 - it lasted until about the year 2000. That old expression, "They don't make them like they used to" is entirely true. It's now (for appliances) all about planned obsolescence - after maybe 7 or 8 years.
@@rivaridge7211 Yup, they built things to last in the good ol' days...and Kenmore products were top of the line....
Amazing. In 1972, there were 2.5 billion people in the world, and the average life expectancy was 72. Now it's 9 billion, and the age is 79.
Wally Cox to be remembered as the voice of underdog in the
cartoon? in the cartoon, was that what you were going to write?
But earlier, Mr. Peepers. Also, that Twilight Zone episode about Agnes, the love-starved computer.
The BIG three...Charley, Wally, and Paul. The show was never the same after Wally and Charley died.
and especially after paul left
@@garrygriffy1866 Unfortunately when Paul returned in 1980, the show was so on the decline!
I've watched more than a half dozen episodes of this era and have to laugh when I think of all the Chevy Vegas they gave away so I guess that there was quite the surplus of lemons that year
Damn thing would rust before ya got it!😮
Gotta ❤️ The Hollywood Squares ❤😂😅
Thanks for sharing!
I guess Buddy Hacket has a certain type of humor. Both Buddy and Dennis both guest starred on The Rifleman...
Karen Valentine is the only surviving Hollywood Square in this segment.
Not only are all the others dead, but _long_ dead. Peter Marshall is still kicking at 94, though.
@@Drchainsaw77
Still kicking @ 96!
@@PaulTesta Yes indeed!
She’s too cute to die!👻❤
And still here at 97 !!!
Giving cars away like that coool
November 1971
Panel:
Wally Cox, Virginia Graham, Joey Bishop, Dennis Weaver, Buddy Hackett, Karen Valentine, Charley Weaver, Hope Lange & Paul Lynde (center square)
It was good to see Doc Severensen and Ed McMahon appear on HS.Can you imagine if Johnny Carson was on this as well. The audience would be in stitches 😂😂😂
Panelists:
1. Buddy Hackett
2. Karen Valentine
3. Charlie Weaver
4. Hope Lange
5. Wally Cox
6. Virginia Graham
7. Joey Bishop
8. Dennis Weaver
9. Paul Lynde
Hope Lange.
Buddy Hackett is hilarious.
Jesus! When America was America and people had class and taste!
Peter probably did not have to wear his reading glasses when reading the question.
Buddy takes a long time to get to the point, but he seems fairly accurate at times.
That cop was a dope
My distant blood related third cousin is Joey bishop. No fooling no joking.
Ann Margret has a height of 5'4" to 5'5" depending on the source. She was probably 5 feet tall when she was 12 but she was definitely taller than that in 1971
You're wrong.
Check her IMDB. Whatever height it gives, she'll be at least an inch shorter-likely two.
I like when Buddy Hackett did the did the joy Bishop show very funny on
She said on Johnny Carson that she was 5'4 and and that she thought she was too short to be a Rockette.
Remember Charlie Weaver on Hollywood squares
Joey Bishop aged big time in 10 years since his own series in 1961 .
I do find it annoying when time is of the essence for the players the stars still can’t give up a minute of attention.
I like how Peter opens the show with an insult for one of his guests when he reads that he is a private detective: "Kinda hard for you to sneak around, isn't it?" Guess Peter was perfect.
Bobby Hackett looks like treating the men very badly he could be sued
. 💓 😊 👌
Ugh. Buddy Hackett.
Paul ;)
Peter asked Virginia Graham who she was. She didn't know.
buddy coughs then says i cant hear the captain was coughing
Not to disparage - but Virginia Graham looks like a high class guy in drag.
You may resume scrolling...
She does.
My word! I realize the economy was different back then, but $23,00.00?! Geez.
, in the incorrect spot.
You should write it as $2,300.00
$2,300 in 1971 is $15,042 today.
Virginia Graham was actually Dustin Hoffman in drag!
at 2:25, its Biffs!
ANNE MARGARET IS ABOUT 5'5". THE RESEARCHERS MAKE A LOT OF MISTAKES.
This entire series is filled with incorrect answers. The best was Beethoven's "Erotica" Symphony.
Does anyone know how far away the game board was from the contestants?
Based on studio pics that I have seen, it was around 25 feet. The platform that Peter and the contestants were on was on a 4 foot riser, and they had their backs to the audience.
Hopefully not too far for a contestant to hit Bishop or Hackett with their water glasses during a break. They were both friggin camera hogs.
I went to a taping of the show back in the 60s I can tell you that the main Tic Tac toe board is very much smaller than it appears on TV. I would imagine it's not that far from where the contestants are!
IT'S NOT THAT EARLY.
Buddy Hackett!
A closet queen ?
@@davidfranson5940 Look in the mirror, boy.
Buddy Hackett was always so annoying...
Not nearly as bad as Jonathan winters.
Hackett was actually very intelligent. As a child, he suffered from Bell's Palsy, which caused his speech impediment. It became part of his "schtick".
Shake it off Taylor swift
I don't see where this comes from that Wally Cox is dead. He is clearly alive and kicking in this episode.
The wonderful Mr. Cox suddenly passed, on February 15, 1973 - more than a year after this broadcast.
Times have changed for the better. Virginia Graham was only 59 in this episode. Today, many 59 year old women are knock outs.
Women were allowed to age gracefully back then. Now to stay relevant in the biz, they have to have more work done than a kitchen remodel and end up looking ridiculous and totally inappropriate for their age.
@@rah62I agree...and I think Virginia looks beautiful here
Buddy Hackett must have had some dirt on the producers. He's loud, long winded, stale, and intrusive.
She's always been a woman.
Buddy was so obnoxious and most of the time so unfunny. Glad they dropped him from the show.
