One Simple way to check if an AC drive is good

- If you have ever worked around AC Drives also know as VFD, you may run into situations where the input fuses are blown. Maybe the motor went bad on you. Now you are not sure if the AC drive is good or not. You are afraid to power up the AC drive.
Well, there is a way to check your high voltage circuit on your AC Drive giving you the confidence to apply voltage to the AC drive again.
Follow along as I show you how to do this simple test called, "Static Check" to give you the okay to apply power to your AC drive.

If you have a problem with your control board, this may also be a cause of IGBT Gate short-circuited. Beware. The gates could not be accessed from outside, dismantle and check.

What would be the readings if there was a short circuit?
How about checking the rectifier diodes with reverse polarity? You checked the forward voltage drop, but if you switch the leads, you should get an open. If you get anything other than high resistance, the diode could be shorted. Take into account the fact that the huge filter caps will take a bit to charge, and you might see a temporary short because of that.
Have you ever revisited your comment since you posted it? I know it must have made sense to you when you posted it but think about what you said.

Could you discuss what the DC Buss terminals are? I see there are 4 terminals.
i have an AC motor inverter EDS2000 model. and i followed your instructions to test it. the result showed the same as in your video instructions, but when i power it up and press RUN, it showed error E013. could you recommend something?

Good Evening. I have washing machine (laundry) using single phase input with 3 phase motor. My priblem is.... The motor body tempreture very hot, touch by hand. Than sometime, motor not running. In this case, motor problem or VFD problem? Plesse advise.
A single phase being turned back to 3 phase is already not the best way to drive a motor but with that being said, I would check the motor out first if its heating up.

Hi, this test can be conducted in a new vfd. Or ii need to power it first .then disconnect the cables . I tested in a new vfd but everything is open. That's my question. Yes, new and used. You are checking the bridge rectifier and the IGBTs. This test is not for testing cables so the line input cables and motor cables should be disconnected. DC Bus over voltage means that the voltage on the Bus has exceeded the VFDs threshold.
@@electronictech785 hi sir, I tested new vfd everything is one. Testing diode forward bias is open. Testing Igbt is open. Now I was just asking need to charge the resistor or not .

Most of the VFDs sold today don't provide the + and - terminals for the DC bus. How can the diodes be checked without the + and - terminals?
In that case, you'll have to get access to the bus caps which would require you to take it apart. The only time we see VFDs with no + and - terminals are the small Horse Power VFDs.

The higher horsepower VFD is profitable. You have to know what industry and where they are at.

I can't seem to remember is 3 phase " each leg is 70 degrees or 30 degrees out of phase with each other " ? chit seems I wouldn't for get and maybe I wrong.
For a three-phase AC voltage source, the phase shift is 120° with respect to each other
