    You can also just very lightly line the prelim with Vaseline (instead of placing topical or Vaseline directly on the tooth), which can be removed from the temp before cementing, with alcohol.

    I noticed you’re using Structur 2 temp material. I’m trying to get used to this material right now. I’m used to Perfecttemp/Luxatemp type material. Any tips specific to this material? Currently I’m using blue bite for my stent, I use vasoline on the prep and contacts and try not to overfill but so frequently I end up breaking a piece off as I’m removing it from my docs usually thin, tall, straight, conservative preps. It never comes out in the impression with Structur where it always does with Luxatemp. There has to be some technique I’m missing here that would help me get through the 6 cartridges I have left! 🙄🔫

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  4 роки тому +1

      mindymm2206 Mindy Morgan I used perfecttemp before it’s pretty similar. Honestly I don’t think the material is the issue. Maybe you’re getting it locked on undercuts and when u pull out it breaks. I would say have your dr double check the prep and clearance. Try using topical on the prep and contacts of adjacent teeth instead of Vaseline. Also, make sure you’re not leaving in the mouth for too long

    I keep a colored pencil in my room to mark the margins of the temporary with before I trim it. Lightly rubbing the pencil on the temp really shows the margins well. Then I just trim until the color is gone and have defined margins.

  • @pewdiepiessidehoe2802

    When you have a fractured tooth you said add flowable in the beginning. AM I adding it to the real tooth and will it come off? Because if I am taking an impression will it stay on the tooth or come off the tooth when I take the impression?

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  2 роки тому +3

      For a case like this we recommend adding something like liquid dam (from Zoom) on the tooth to build it up so that you can take your pre-op impression. You can use flowable because it won’t really bond to the tooth without etch and bond, so it’s fairly easy to remove BUT it will be a waste of product. Other than liquid dam you can also use wax (not ideal cause it will distort easily) or any “expired” composite/flowable you may have in the office…And yes you will add it to the tooth; it will be easy to remove from the tooth 👍🏼

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  2 роки тому

      You should remove the excess on the Side of the contact not right where the contact is. In other words think of what a permanent crown would look like. It would be smooth everywhere, so you smooth your temp 🙂

    Do you find issues ever using alginate? I have never used it to make a temp. I worry it may dry out by time we make the temps. Plus we keep the temp impressions until seat appt just incase we need to make new temp due to broken or lost temp. I have used the bite or putty material so it keeps longer.

    • @DentalVibes

    • @DentalVibes

      No, vinyl polysiloxane is used for final impressions. For pre-op impression we usually use Alginot or a generic version and for the temporaries material we use a few different ones like Protemp or Structr.

    Hi Gabby! I was wondering who does the models? Another thing - how long it usually takes for you to prepare temp crown? Is patient on the dental chair at the time of preparation?
    Who place temporary crown in the patient mouth - assistant or dentist?
    What if crown still need a little bit adjustment?

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  3 роки тому +2

      Karolina Rogowska great questions! So as I mention we were just using a model because we didn’t have a patient at the time to film. The impression is taken from the patients mouth prior to prep. If it’s a single tooth it can be from 5-8 min if I had to take a guess lol I never time myself. Patient is in the chair after the tooth has been prepped. The assistant should be able to fabricate the temporary crown and cement it. After cementing it, if I noticed still needs a little adj I will do so with a slow speed polisher. If that doesn’t do it then I’ll grab the dentist to adjust it with the high speed. I hope I answered all your questions 🦷🙂

What we CAN NOT do for sure - cement crowns in the patient mouth and use any handpieces in the patient mouth . I was wondering what is the dentist doing when you are preparing the crown? Does the dentist check on patient when it's cemented?

      @@DentalVibes one more question. How long usually patient wait for the permanent crown? Xx

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  3 роки тому +1

      Karolina Rogowska so in the US what a dental assistant can legally do varies by state. In Florida, expanded functions dental assistants (which you go to a program for that certificate) can do everything that’s temporary. So we cement temporaries with TEMPORARY cement. We can use the slow speed only in the patient’s mouth. The high value of an assistant that can do these duties is that the dr can multitask. While the assistant is making the temp the dr can go do an exam or see another patient. Every dentist is different when it comes to checking after it’s done. If you worked for a dr for a while and they know they can trust you will do a great job. Then they won’t come back to check it

    • @DentalVibes
      @DentalVibes  3 роки тому +2
