Marten Lake - Washington State

Marten Lake is a seldom visited destination within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near the Snoqualmie and Taylor rivers. It's about a 4.8 mile hike to the lake, but most of the elevation gain is within the last mile on an unmaintained trail. We went on an early Spring day when the last mile to the lake was difficult due to snow conditions. Be aware of the current avalanche danger before you go and carry the appropriate gear. This is a great hike for those with ambition and route finding skills.

Let's hear it for Old Growth! The lake looked like it was an old Glacier Cirque. 15,000 years ago you'd be walking on thick, moving ice.
