That has to be one if the finest weathering jobs I've ever seen.👍 Like you mentioned some people go too far on the raised bits and using a sharpie round all the panel lines, and the end result looks completely contrived. I'm subscribing. 👍
Cool!!✨ I just got a JConcepts Creep body for my Axial scx10 ii and was thinking 🤔 then my Son suggested to paint it like the Tow Truck from the Cars Movie...lol I'll show you!!
... that Pro tip on the dishes and good towels... 😂😂😂.. awesome! Subscribed! Thanks for the totally low key straightforward video. Really loved it man.
Thank you. I know it's been a while, but I do plan on doing more videos on a regular basis. With the whole covid thing, it's been tough to get some quiet time to record videos.
Awesome!! On the RGT challenger 1/10 rc with soft shell body...how can I remove the gloss off the green paint to make the green matte? And do I need to paint a rust color in the inside of shell to have it come out rust color when it scratches?😮 ty
Good and bad. Very happy with the result I got following your technique on both videos. I painted a lexan body. Very unhappy with how the paint adheres to the outside of the body. I washed the body and used a brillo pad during the process. Was very particular about letting the body dry prior to painting. I think I will have to use more aggressive cleaning/scouring pads. The Rust-Oleum has to adhere a lot better then what I have experienced.
Awesome vid bud. Just the effect I wanna replicate on my 73 ford bronco body for my gen 8. Being an automotive painter and using wet sandpaper all my life, I will pass a small tip along for u to try that may make the sanding process easier and save sandpaper...using an scotchbrite pad folded in your paper helps keep it from clogging up, as well as less pressure is needed for the paper to cut, and keeps it from wearing and clogging up. I have had to wetsand complete cars and this lil trick saved me hours. The fj turned out amazing and thank you for passing along the knowledge on this painting process. 👌👍 Keep the greasy side down 🙃✌
I've been waiting for this video since you mentioned you were going to do one on insta and you really knocked it out of the park! Thank you for going into so much detail explaining everything. Would have loved to see you actually do some of the finishing touches you talked about at the end as well. I'm particularly curious about the soft lead pencil for the panel lines... Do you have to redo that occasionally, or does the matte clear seal the lead in pretty well?
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to cover as much as possible so those who are new to painting can follow along as well. I'll do another video on detailing bodies. This one was just running long already. Regarding your question, the matte clear will set the lead. You shouldn't have to redraw the lines.
Hey buddy just subscribed have a question about the Rust-Oleum paint can't find any olive green in tamaya but I'm really rough on my vehicles that Rust-Oleum won't peel off videos cool bro
I haven't had any issues on any of the bodies I used this paint on. It's made for plastics, so it flexes. The TS paints don't flex which is why they flake off. Cleaning the body properly is key.
So I’m painting my first RC body. I got the correct primer, but got paint from Tamiya labeled TS. Will that still work? I also think that about shooting a clear coat over it.
I use the sandpaper befor i paint, to roughen the surface, so the paint sticks better, could a cherokee body for my crawler.. nearly the same taktic, whitout the weathering, but whit silver under the body, so if it get skretched.. it show bare metal now ;-) and the paint from the outside don´t flake at all... sticks perfekt whit roughen it up first.. just used tamiya colors
Great video and it definitely helped me do my first weathered body! Question though..........how do you make the decals "weathered" so they don't look so shiney?? TIA! 😁
Be careful weathering the white tops of these FJ40 Land Cruisers. The originals were fiberglass, so rust is not realistic. It’s a similar nitpick to rusted out Land Rovers wherein the originals have aluminum bodies... :^D

Thank you for all the detail!!! I kept stopping trying to figure out which of my smoke detectors was beeping ;)
Excellent video! But damn it put a battery in that smoke alarm 😂😂
Great tips for painting! But change that smoke alarm battery 🤦♂️
It's been changed. I didn't realize it could be heard from the other room until it was too late.
I thought it was mine chirping
Cool!!✨

its like something out of a dream... awesome video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice vid. Btw, if you use a little washing up liquid in your water bucket, your sandpaper won't clog😉👍

Excellent video my Friend .. Very Good Technique and very well explained .. Greetings from Indianapolis IN.

Great Video 👍🏼👍🏼
Really helpful video.I bought a used painted bodie that’s dented with paint chips. This will help me give it that weathered rugged look. Thx so much :)

Ahh, good tip. Thank you. I'll keep that in mind.
its like mr rogers and bob ross had a beautiful love child.... subscribed!!!!!
Happy little rust spot right here.
I like what you did with that cr12
Thank you.
how well does rustoleum hold up on lexan bodies?
GREAT video! Excellent detail... Thanks!!!

@@MyBuildProjects That's awesome! I'll give that a shot because I've done the sharpie thing in the past and it never looked quite right. Thanks!
If I was to do a matte black color would I have to use the white satin too??
Hi and happy new year, how the paint not made for lexan can't peel off from the body?
Nice video, what would you recommend for denting in a polycarbonate body for a more abused crawler look?
Well done and very helpful! Subbed!
Great how to video! Very well done Sir! 👏👏👏
Thank you so much.

great tutorial, thanks
Awesome video! No chipping when using those rustoleum paints? I know if you use TS paints there’s chipping If the body gets hit.

Great vid!🤓👍
Great!!! Nice job! Do you know what kind of material are the WPL shells? It doesn’t look like lexan or hard plastic either...
I believe they are ABS plastic. The same plastic (or very similar) used for scale models and RC hard bodies.
@@MyBuildProjects okay thanks
Great job! Do all the weathering materials work on decals? I’m afraid of weathering a body and having new looking decals on it. Thx
Good question. That's something I should cover in a future video. There are ways of weathering decals.
Should put some b roll @the end of the video? Always good to see finished product 👍🇬🇧
Yup, unfortunately, the body was for a friend of mine and he took a while to get the body mounted and hardly drives it.
Great video, 🙏
Thank you 🙌
Love the antenna. I went to your site but did not see it anymore. So sad.
The antenna's are now in stock.
So I’m painting my first RC body. I got the correct primer, but got paint from Tamiya labeled TS. Will that still work? I also think that about shooting a clear coat over it.
No, the TS paint is for plastic models. Unless you're painting a hard body and not polycarbonate (Lexan™).
I use the sandpaper befor i paint, to roughen the surface, so the paint sticks better, could a cherokee body for my crawler.. nearly the same taktic, whitout the weathering, but whit silver under the body, so if it get skretched.. it show bare metal now ;-)

Hi, what body is this?
Great video and it definitely helped me do my first weathered body!
Question though..........how do you make the decals "weathered" so they don't look so shiney?? TIA! 😁
I believe to 'weather' the decals, you apply them to the body then apply a coat of matt clear coat over the whole body to blend them in bud. 👍✌
great video. may use a bucket or turn water off and on. lots of waste
Yeah, I got caught up in what I was saying I didn't turn the water off.
FYI, Element RC seems to have "barrowed" some of your footage for their most recent "Trail Tip" intro on painting bodies.
HAHA, I'm glad you noticed. I'm the guy that edits those videos as well. I used my own clips for the Element Trail Tip video.

Good point.
Looks like you've been running down Zombie's 🧟♂️ thumbnail looks like blood 😊
Do you really need to waste that much water?
I was going to say!🤣🤣🤣 35 gallons at least!!!!
Water is never wasted. It continues through the water cycle. It never goes away.
Update. It's 2 years later and his smoke detector is still beeping. Lol
aye bro i hoped you have changed your batteries in your fire alarm by now
The smoke detector has to be dead by now.😛
Clean the dishes in the sink and don't use the good towels... I can see your wife yelling at you. Hahahahaha
holy shit the music is loud
Put a new battery in your smoke detector. I couldnt watch the whole video
Yeah, sorry about that. It's been fixed. I plan on doing more videos. I'll make sure there's no background noise in the future.
