    Great to see that you got them working, sometimes when removing the MAC-GBD the legs can get slightly bent, which makes getting good contact on the new boards a bit of a chore, i suspect that might have been part of the issue you experienced, i also recommend picking up some Chip Quik SMD291 Flux, it's invaluable when hand soldering chips to boards.

    I appreciate how much you struggled, and that you didn't hide it. I've modded my own gbc but I don't have the gear to populate my own custom pcb to get those roms on. Seeing you make the mistakes you did gave me the reality check that I couldn't do this yet

    Hope your doing well brother, miss your videos. Your one ofbthe reasons i got into GB mods a number of years ago.

    At 8:31 as you're passing the jewelry loop on that chip there is something funky going on between the second and third pin from the left

    Nice, love the soda can hack! XD This seems like an awesome project, I need to purchase a GB camera so I can get mine started! :D Glad you were able to get both your cameras working, nothing wrong with asking for help sometimes. :)

    Thanks for making the video - I built a few of the HDR Camera Carts also, you are right it is not an ease build. But in the end they are totally worth it, and if you do a 2BitToy case/shell and the 5-50 lens you will be super happy, brings that camera to a new level.

    I always love using my two GB Cameras with my modded GBC. Such a fun little game/ accessory.

    One suggestion I have is not to put solder on all the pads of high pin count components (like the large chips but also connectors) because then when you put the component on you'd be fighting to press it down so to speak because all the other pins will be raised while you press the one you're working on at that moment.
    You should instead align the component and tack on a corner first then verify again the alignment and tack an opposite corner then verify once again the alignment and if it's all good proceed to solder every remaining pin using an abundance of flux.
    This way all the pins will be leveled on the pads.
    For smaller components you can put solder first on one pad, tack on the component and then solder the other pad or few pads.
    The above suggestion is valid for hand soldering, with hot hair you can have solder on all pads because they would reflow more or less all at the same time and the chip would "fall" into place also aided by surface tension, you still need lots of flux of course

    Good to see you posting again Sean. You still play around on any CRT television sets anymore? I know it’s been a long while since the Daewoo died, but that set had a fantastic picture

      Thanks! My wife and I moved in with my parents for a while so I have a lot of stuff in storage. Hopefully by next year we'll have our own home and I can bring it all out again. :)

    I was interested in making a Gameboy DSLR but I have no idea where to start, so I would love to see that video and hopefully a guide to how someone would go about doing it :)

      Chris made a couple versions, one is going to have the 3D print files made public. It’s a huge project with custom PCB, full Game Boy Pocket inside, etc. but it’s so cool!

    Hey Sean, quick question: How did you feel overall with your Daewoo 20” flat CRT as far as picture quality and overall reliability and satisfaction? I found the same model on ebay but its a tad pricey. Were you happy with the set? I like that it has component inputs

    • @esotericsean
      @esotericsean  11 місяців тому

      I liked it a lot, but unfortunately it died not long after making that video. I think it had been sitting out in the rain before I took it in so that’s probably why. But it’s a great set!

    I want to do this but I also have no experience so I don't think I'll do it. Is doing this the same as buying the Gameboy Camera PicNRec AIO but already done?

    • @esotericsean
      @esotericsean  10 місяців тому

      That’s not quite the same thing. The PicNRec is a device that sits between the Game Boy and the GB Camera. It’s a bit difficult as the creator of this PCB doesn’t want anyone to sell them. But there are probably people on the Discord who would be willing to help you build one.

  • @TrinityCodex

    how does the new pcb make it better?

    • @esotericsean
      @esotericsean  Рік тому

      Basically it allows you to install custom ROMs. The custom GB Camera ROMs that others have made are designed for photographers, so there are a lot more features than the original GB Camera had.

    Hey there. Correct me if I'm wrong.
    A few months or maybe years ago you had a website where we could send you our gameboys to get the backlight mod.
    I finally found my old GB Color and wanted to get the mod and a rechargeable battery with USB-C and all other fancy stuff.
    I can't find the site anymore.

    • @esotericsean
      @esotericsean  Рік тому

      I do have esotericmods.com still but I just had a baby and don’t really have enough time to do that anymore unfortunately. I might be able to recommend some other modders who can help if you’d like.
      That said, the newest backlit screens are very easy to install. :)
