Thankful for finding your channel. Our small group of coconut farmers is contemplating on a solar and wind dryer to minimise the use of the traditional copra making. Any advice? Thank you!

Which wind turbine power to choose to run a 10 kw motor

It's not a matter of which is best, both are part of a balanced system

I fully agree with you. In many climate zones, solar energy and wind energy complement each other perfectly.

@@WindSunWisdom Yes, especially with adequate grid storage to capture that wind energy when no one wants it ie at night

Areas well above and below the equator can have much shorter days, it's true. But for wind power, you must be in an area where there is abundant wind to make good use of a wind turbine. Typically this is on the coast. Most people do not live in high wind areas.
Also, at least a 60ft tower is usually needed unless you live in an area where there are no obstacles within ~400 feet.
    And there is maintenance.
When building your own, it is extremely difficult to design a turbine that shuts down in high winds automatically. Most home made machines require some kind of manual intervention. That is far from ideal.

Nice video, free of VAWT hype. When it comes to WT or not WT, the bottom line, recuperating cost, is the real issue, at least for me. It is easy to catch the romantic bug - green power/self-sustained etc. And then you lose money because your a romantic idealist.
Why spend on both wind and solar if wind is not paying for itself, but solar is, and then some? It does not matter if you have to buy power in winter, if in the long run your PV saves you more money than you paid for it (+ interest rate). I'd rather pay €1K per year in the winter months for the extra power my PV and battery can't supply, than 20K up front for a WT that never breaks even before it breaks down. Or am I missing something? I'm not interested in hypotheticals based on factory numbers, but actual experienced cost/benefit scenarios would be nice.

The important starting point is whether you are ongrid or offgrid. If you are offgrid and need your own energy all year round, then in some climatic regions you will have to use a wind turbine. If you are ongrid then of course you can always take power from the public grid. If we are talking about ongrid, then small wind turbines make sense, especially for commercial enterprises with high electricity consumption. In other words, we are talking about an output of 10 kW or more with a total height of over 20 meters. However, the location is crucial: you need a free flow of wind.

@@WindSunWisdom Agreed regarding off grid, of course. If you have no other sustainable choice then wind turbine it is. In my case, I have 14kWp solar, and 10Kwh battery, and even though I do have free flow of wind (a 300m open field against prevailing wind) I just don't see the WT product that would make sense to me, when I instead can buy cheap wind-based power at night and store for next high cost afternoon/evening. I consume 15-18 kWh per 24h. IS there a turbine + pillar + installation that would compete?

Ja super. every bodys talkin, But iv looked for a couple years for a (Gute) like 500w wind supliment for the 1080w solar on my 2005 Eura mobil 810hbl. Every thing i see gets a louse rate or worse in tests. and not every one has a bunch of mega magnets and a 3d printer. Soooooo many vids selling the Idea, shit im in....i understand the advantges as i studied and set up my whole sys with 9kv Lifepo4´s So were du i get a good one.?? Vertikaler naturlich as i would mostly be in unclean wind. ask all the solar jockies they have no clue. Meet a Fa in Mü once with a stand, all they had was somthin to put on a lot or in a garden. Im not lookin for the wonder propeller, in Baveria when the sun aint there theres wind always. getting a av like 400w through the night and raindays would be Prime. So if anyone reads my despret rant tks. I hate to go off but its like all the Hey this is great idea, but Amazon sells trash. Stay Mellow Ppl´s

Yes, it was a DIY competition. The students built everything themselves. The turbines are prototypes and only for the competition.

In a windy location, a wind turbine makes a lot of sense. Especially if you have a high electricity consumption due to a heat pump, electric car, etc.
