Samoyeds are really great dogs, as long you completely understand their needs and demands. I struggled with figuring out what my first Samoyed needed. I've owned dogs of other breeds, my entire life, but for 2 years, Chewy ate my entire house. Chewy was my first Samoyed. Thank you! We’re really contemplating it. The $3500 price tag is a bit out of the price range, but I also haven’t been able to find what appears to be a pure breed at a rescue. They’ve also been incredibly far from my home.
Yeti’s breeder, was over 2 hours from my home. Just keep your eyes open. Eventually, you’ll find a Sammy. Best wishes.

I think this is the best Samoyed video you have ever done. The other day when walking Ralf I passed a group of people having a picnic. They were watching Ralf drag me up the hill to where they were all siting. One lady looked at me and I said to her, "would you like to have a tractor ?" At that moment Ralf bolted off in the opposite direction to introduce him self to a poodle, pulling me like a sled. Every thing you have mentioned in this video is absolutely true.

Thank you for the kind words on my skin cancer. The surgeon got all of it and the scarring is recovering. I’m cancer free and go to the doctor for checks every few months. The chaos of 2020, mixed with cancer, created more panic than necessary. Chaos and panic have finally settled, I’m fully vaccinated, without cancer, life is mostly back to normal.
Hi, my son as a Samoyed who is a year old. He is a big male who is very smart. He had those difficulties for the first 6 months but pretty much trained those habits out of him. He is a great dog with tons of personality.
They definitely do have a ton of wonderful personality. Such a special gift to own a Sam.

I had 3 Samoyeds , they were wonderful they protected our son. For some reason they knew some person living was near us was not good and would not let him near him. Thank God! We live in tornado country and if there were warnings our son at 5 would go into the hall and our Samoyeds would surround him. They are loyal. They are very loving. You do need to be give the attention. They are very family oriented. They need to be part of a pack. They do want to heard anything. Or at least mind did. I now have a husky, so I know larger northern breeds. I live in Oklahoma and we get ver cold and Very hot . So they need to be house dogs.
Sammies are such loyal and loving attention seeking dogs. They love being part of the family pack. All Sammies I’ve known have also liked herding their humans, especially little kids.

My Samoyed Gabbie ate everything too - she ate our carpet! 😱 I wish this video was around many years ago before she came into my life because yes - I had no idea what I was doing! Lol! But, we had a great journey learning the hard way and I miss her daily since losing her a few years ago. Thank you, Ashley, for saying our video is perfect. Owning a Sammy is the best experience I’ve ever had and wouldn’t change it for the world. I had to wait nearly 2 years in between losing Chewy and getting Yeti. Losing a beloved pup is incredibly painful. But, the amount of joy and love they bring, is priceless.
This helped a lot! I’m trying to convince my mom to get a dog, and I think this breed is perfect for our family!
They are demanding dogs, who need a lot of daily exercise and can be a struggle for first time dog owners. But, they are the best dogs, once you get them figured out.
@@YetisPlace hmm how long would you recommend walking a samoyed? (From puppyhood to adult hood)
When they’re young, like a few months of age, it’s fine to walk them less. One walk per day would be ok. As they get older, they will demand more. Yeti likes going on 3-5 daily walks, of at least a half hour at a time. Once we get home, within minutes, he begins begging for more. Sams love walks.

After the excitement wore off from having caught the deer, Yeti would hump it, claiming it as his own pet.
He’s caught a gopher. Pounced and grabbed it. He didn’t bite hard on it. Eventually, he listened to me when I told him ‘drop it.’ The gopher played dead. Once Yeti turned the corner, it got up and ran off.
I haven't checked in in a while been busy with my puppy, can't believe he is almost 8 months old. When we got him the breeder selected the Sammy to the family instead of the other way around so everyone got the right fit. We also have a Facebook group and get to see all the puppies grow up even if some live in Dif states. Yeti is so handsome
The best breeders always select the best Sammie to fit the families. That’s why they ask a lot of questions. They get to know the puppies’ personalities and are able to find the best fit. They know which dog is the dominant dog, which dogs are more quiet. That’s the way it should be. So glad you got a great match!
That’s wonderful that you’re able to stay in touch with all the puppies. I bet it’ll be great for them, if you’re able to meet up with the littermates.
First of all, I want to say I'm so truly sorry about your cancer scare. I hope you recover well, I didn't even notice the mark on your face until you mentioned it. Second of all, I am a HUGE animal lover. I am an aspiring veterinarian or trainer, and I would love a Samoyed someday. The problem is, I already own a small cockatoo that's obsessed with attacking my dog. She seems better around big dogs, but I'm scared I'll have to always separate my future sammy and bird. It appears sammy's have a prey drive, do you think one would find a large bird scary or a chew toy? 🥺😬🤞🤔 I badly want this type of dog someday, but I am not an active person, vets often work long hours, and I've only ever lived with hypoallergenic small dogs. Hoping there's still a chance I could figure it out and there will be a day I can own one. 🥺✨🤞
Thank you for the kind thoughts. The doctor said he got it all and no further treatment will be needed. I’m really thankful of that. Turned out much better than I had thought. I applied a lot of tinted cover up, followed by makeup over it, to minimize. It should fully heal, but it can take up to a year.
A Sammy puppy, is small, who quickly grows. When you get a Sammy pup, if you train him/her to treat your cockatoo as a pet, they’ll be respectful pretty quickly. Cockatoos are gorgeous!
Sammies do need a lot of daily walks, plenty of daily playtime. They’re quite active until just before they pass away. They need to work. You could put roller skates on, or grab a skateboard. That way, your Sam could pull you on a walk. Working dogs really do live up to their name. If they don’t work, they will literally eat your entire house. Work can many times be identified as intense playtime.
Sammies are hypoallergenic, no oil in their coats. However, if you have allergies to anything outside, or dust/mold from inside, anything and everything gets trapped in their thick, double coats. After a walk, Yeti gets everything trapped. Prickers, seeds, weeds, etc.
Sammies need people around them. They do ok if they’re left alone for a few hours a day, once they’re full grown (age 2). They sleep, reviving their crazy energy for later in the day. To get them to be good, they need a long walk before you leave for the day, or a lot of games of fetch. Crate training, is key.
Me and my friend go skateboarding for at least three hours a day and we are both getting Samoyeds so it’s amazing that they like skateboards
But, they have to be on a leash that you hold and you cannot do tricks while they’re with you. Otherwise, they get distracted, will run off and they could get hurt.

Nothing is better than dogs. It’s good to be back on UA-cam. I laughed so hard at the deers’ expressions. They were like, oh crap! So glad Jeff was walking him vs me. He’s really strong and he really wanted to get them. And the digging...yes. Never allow your dog to get bored.

True, but I don’t have a passport. We used to be able to cross, with just our birth certificates eons ago. Now, we need passports. You wouldn’t want to come here, due to Covid being a massive sesspool of incubus plague. I’m taking it seriously and wearing a mask. You don’t want to come here, until you’ve been vaccinated. I’m staying put, working from home.
I bought a puppie for my ex’s birthday in 73. We wanted the male runt of the litter but he was promised. So we took the female runt. She lived to 16 and our daughters grew up with her. We didn’t have a digging issue but she did chew up a pair of steel toed work shoes. Chinook was smart and a ball of energy and stronger than we realized. Built a 2’x4’ dog house and put carpet squares on the floor. She pulled them all out we had to chain her as if we didn’t, a fenced in yard, she’d run and we lived inner city. She chewed through a couple nylon reinforced plastic chains, kept breaking most metal chains until we relented and got a heavier chain 20’ long. She didn’t break it but dragged the dog house all over the yard. She was smart and learned several tricks. Which she would do as soon as she saw we held a Milkbone. Without any command she would do every trick! Then look at us as if to say I did them all now give me my treat! She’d rollover one way, if we said No back she’d roll the other way. She’d shake paws, sit, sit up, hop on hind legs, dance, speak on command, lie down and get her tennis ball but not let it go but would roll the ball back if it was rolled to her. All for a dog biscuit! She’d sleep under the oldest girl’s bed until she’d fall out of bed onto Chinook. After the second or third time during the night Chinook would move to our room for safety from falling kids. We were on a picnic and a friend offered to take my ex and daughter on a boat ride and Chinook wanted to go with and let us know in no uncertain terms! We thought she’d jump up on the bow when called? Nope, she launched her self into the canal and swam up to the boat with that “here I am , let me in?” She didn’t get the ride but I got the wet dog on shore. She she’d loys of fur, continuously, and in clumps. But I’d take another Samoyed in a minute, though I don’t think my wife would like all the hair and I’m not able to take a Sami for the walks it needed. She loved the girls and was an endless source of entertainment!
Hello WJ Corrinne! Your Sammy, Chinook sounded like such a wonderful dog. They are certainly extremely determined to get their way, aren’t they?! They’re the sweetest, most gentle, loving dogs. Thank you for sharing your story. It’s always so entertaining to hear from other Samoyed owners. They have quite the personalities.
@@YetisPlace Hi, I love watching your videos and those of an owner of three Newfies. Another anecdote for you. We were talking with someone on our front porch and Chinook was getting most of the attention. Our daughter, oldest but not school age yet, ran inside and ran out with a full box of medium size “Milkbone” biscuits and she tripped and fell dropping the box. Dog biscuits fanned out across the porch and Chinook was in doggie heaven! Look at all those treats! She was grabbing in her mouth, one after another but not eating any as there were too many in her mouth. While our daughter picked up the dry ones I got the privilege of trying to get the gummed ones away from Chinook. Every dog owner should have to experience that fun chore! Needless to say Chinook had lots of biscuits that day as the ones she grabbed were too wet to put back in the box.
One other episode had to do with giving a dog a pill from the vet. We tried all the tricks of hiding it in small pieces of food. Didn’t work. She’d eat the food and spit out the pill now wet as the dog biscuits. That meant opening her mouth, put the pill in the back of her mouth hold her muzzle shut and stroke her throat until she swallowed. Even then she’d swallow, I’d let go and she’d spit out the pill. Then before I could pick it up she’d grab it and swallow it. Then one day , we kept her pills on top of the fridge, as I was getting her pill when I accidentally dropped it. She pounced on it and ate it! Light went on in my brain. She had associated the fridge with food or treats. So from then on we kept her pills on the fridge, take one and just toss it to her. No more hiding it in food or puppies up fingers. As you’ve said, they are very intelligent dogs!
Molly The Newfie I bet, is the channel. I’m subscribed to her too. She hasn’t done a video in 7 months. My first dog, was a Newfie named Bear. My parents had a Volkswagen bug (the original little bug). I’d be in my car seat, with giant, drooly Bear sitting on top of me. I was in dog heaven. He was my horse.
Sammies, treats and accidents, make for fun and silly times.
Yeti knows of the vet medicine. He eats it, when I roll it into a hot dog and give him plenty of treats before/after. He LOVES his monthly flea/tick and heartworm medicines. Thank goodness they’re treat flavored.
My first Sammy, was difficult to give vet medicine. Poor dog just wouldn’t take it, regardless of where we put it. Hot dogs, peanut butter, throwing back in his throat and stroking his throat, while holding his mouth shut. I even tried the trick you mentioned. He knew it was medicine and wouldn’t eat it.
“Always make sure you’re freshly showered” … I’ve had 2 showers in the last 6 days on week 1 with my puppy 🥴😵💫 lol (and yes I’m binge re-watching your videos in between professional trainings 😅)
I am a training professional
I have a Samoyed german shepherd cross. She is 70% sammy and 30% german shepherd so she mostly behaves like a sammy but has the black and tan markings like a german shepherd. The one thing that I was not prepared for was how much I found myself playing mind games with her. They seem to like to control you as much as you try to control them.
Sammies are definitely like Baby Yoda’s. Absolutely adorable little mind gamers.

My family and I are thinking of getting one. We plan on crate training and we are gonna train it for separation anxiety too. Our house is quite big but a lot of plant/ decorations. We are trying to puppy proof. In the meantime this saturday we are going to meet a samoyed pup we may potentially get. We have a big yard and A big basement too. Do you have any tips personally?
Congratulations on your upcoming Samoyed puppy! It’s a big moment for you and your family. Don’t allow full access to your house, until around 2 years old. Gate off most of your house and only allow them in one small area for the first few months. The reason, is because they’re small and get overwhelmed easily. They’re easier to train if you only allow access to small areas. Potty training will be easier, so will no bite, come, down, stay, sit, leave it, etc. Keep your puppy away from all plants. Plants can cause adverse reactions that we may not have. If anything, plants provide plenty of mental stimulation with the feeling of the cool dirt, on their fuzzy paws and snouts. They dig them up very quickly. Therefore, gate off all plants.
Big yards are awesome! Hopefully it’s fenced in. If not, keep your pup on his/her leash. Only release, if they’re in a fenced in yard. They love hunting small animals, using their hunting/herding instincts and will take off. That’s true of a Sammy, regardless of their age.
Get a crate for overnight and when you’re not home with your Sammy. Get them used to it, though when you’re home with them. They’ll feel better about going into it, when they need to. Provide plenty of daily walks and a lot of fun, mentally stimulating playtime (fetch, bring here, will kill 2 birds with one stone). That will eliminate boredom, which in turn, will prevent digging and home destruction. But, still, please use a crate. I cannot tell you the thousands of dollars I would’ve saved, had I known that with my first Samoyed, Chewy. He literally ate my entire house. All because he was bored.
Potty training.... something I just learned.... bring them outside every half hour, regardless of whether they have to go or not. Bring treats and praise. Continue that, every half hour while up for the day. When you’re home, watch them like a hawk. If you’re not in the same room, gate them in a smaller room, or in a big, puppy playpen. Those little, razor sharp puppy teeth, won’t be able to eat much of what they’re not supposed to, if you do that. If they make a mess, it’s easier to clean.
The every half hour, then outside, will only last for around 2-3 months.

What if you are playing fetch? Can you unhook their leash? Or will they get distracted?
Only unhook them from their leash, if they’re in a fenced in area. If not, the second they see a squirrel or other animal, they’ll zoom off.
What would you recommend doing if a samoyed puppy keeps trying to bite you? I have a 10 week old Samoyed , and sometimes when we’re playing she out of nowhere comes after my legs. She bites an area once, I yelp, and she just moves on to a different area of the leg and bites again. I tried redirecting her to a toy as well, but she is way too focused on LITERALLY EATING MY LEG to notice the toy.
That is so painful to go through Yummy Yummy. I hear your pain, as my dogs have always done that too. I would continue doing what you’re doing, but add turning/walking away from your puppy, ignoring her. Stop playing. It does take time for them to learn this. Their normal play activity, involves puppy biting. She’ll eventually learn the only way you’ll play with her, is if she isn’t biting. I wouldn’t hold the toy, but give it to her and ignore her.

I will probably be getting a samoyed next year. By then i will be in 10th grade. I have a little experience with dogs and i taught my uncle’s dog how to sot and lie down a few weeks ago. Do u think a samoyed is a good breed? Because honeslty, theyre pne of the only available breeds in my country other than golden retrievers labs german shepherds and huskies
Sammies and Huskies are beautiful, hard working dogs, who need excess energy release. If it would be your first breed of dog, they can be challenging. They need a lot of daily exercise, or they’ll eat your house. Once they get over the challenge hump, at 2 years old, they enter their demanding phase. They demand even more walks, more treats, filming even more UA-cam episodes. They’re very schedule oriented dogs, extremely stubborn, but one of the sweetest breeds I know.

I live in an apartment and I really love to adopt a medium sized dog like Husky, Samoyed or Doberman, as you know, having a loud barking dog is not an ideal pet to have in an apartment, So I really need your help, Which breed of these 3 is better for me? Husky, Doberman or Samoyed?
Unfortunately none of the 3. Huskies bark and sass even more than a Samoyed, who still talks way too much. Dobermans are big dogs, too big to be in an apartment, if you have a size limitation. I’m unsure of their barking, but I know they have to go through training.
Huskies and Sammies shed a LOT. Their fur gets clogged everywhere, including in your heating and cooling vents.

Each Sam is different. Chewy loved the soft, plush toys. Yeti destroys the soft toys in no time. You have to see what your Sam will like. All Sams like tennis balls. They love to play fetch.
Would a Samoyed be good for a 4 year old? She’s an active child; loves to run, play, and jump around. I thought maybe this would be good play time for both of them. When we’re unable to go outside for whatever reason, the basement is clear so they can run and play.
Oh my gosh! YES!!! Sammies LOVE little kids. They play gently with them and provide the pup all the energy release they need. My first Sammy, Chewy, was so gentle with our then little nieces and nephews. He loved playing with them and would be so sweet and gentle.

You’re welcome. You want to introduce the moment you bring your puppy home. Hold your puppy and tell your little girl to be gentle. Let your Sammie sniff her hand. Once your Sammie is ok with her, have her scratch your Sammie underneath his/her chin. Then, she can be gentle and can rub his/her ears. You’ll want to supervise them playing while your puppy is little, due to needing to go outside frequently (every half hour, bring your Sam outside) and due to puppy nips for playtime. It’ll take time, but eventually they’ll be best buds and your puppy won’t nip at heels and fingers/hands.
If I can't walk him outside, do you recommend treadmill?
You can certainly put him on a treadmill. Yeti’s breeder would do that for her new mom’s. The doggie mom’s have to stay put, next to their babies, so they don’t get too much activity. Yeti’s breeder had a special dog treadmill. But, you can use your own treadmill. Walk with him on it to get him used to it. Once they’re used to it, wrap their leash around the treadmill’s handles.
Im getting my samoyed puppy in a month and im soo happy but i have a small yard is that a problem ? And is it okay if he stays home alone for 3/4 hours while i am in school
Congratulations on your upcoming Sammy pup! It’s like waiting for Christmas Day! I have a small yard. You’ll be fine. Just bring on a lot of long walks around your neighborhood daily. At first, because they’re little, not too long. Once they get bigger, more and longer daily walks. 3 to 4 hours a day, would be fine, just crate train. That’ll keep your puppy safe and away from eating electric cords, furniture, stuff they’re not supposed to eat. It’ll also help with potty training too. They stop growing by age 2. Their bones develop through that age. Yeti will be 7 on December 3rd.

Samoyed growth estimates are estimates. Some grow faster, others grow more slowly. Some are bigger, some are smaller. The average weight for a male Sam at 7 months, is 35-45 lbs. I would ask your vet about his weight, since he’s still growing. There are so many variables. Follow your food dosage, based on age. The food dosage is found on the backside of the food packaging. It’s based on age and size. A Sam is a medium-large dog.

I’ve only owned boys. I like boys Sammies, as they have beautiful manes and are a bit bigger. I’ve been around females, who are smaller, with adorable, little faces. My first Samoyed, Chewy’s Mom, stayed overnight with me one weekend. She was very sweet, well behaved, gentle and very loving. She remembered Chewy’s scent and acted like such a loving Mom. Chewy was like, who are you? I think I know you, but I’m not sure. Why do you look just like me?
I met Yeti’s Mom and his aunt, spending only a few hours around them.
I can tell you, both males and females, are extremely active, loving dogs, who are very intelligent, which makes them difficult to train. They’re good dogs for people who’ve owned at least one breed in the past. Challenging for first time dog owners. You need to change your training game on a dime, making it a fun game. Involve challenges and games while training, to get both sexes to listen. Even after doing that, they still might not listen, because they’d rather be chasing reindeer, skunks, squirrels, mice, groundhogs, gophers, etc., than listening to sit, stay, come, down. That’s true of either Samoyed sex.

I feel for you. It was a year and a half in between Chewy, my first and Yeti. Chewy’s breeder passed and I had to find a new breeder. It’s painful to wait. But, once your puppy is born, time crawls even more slowly. It’s like being young, waiting for Christmas.
I dont think they are working dogs like a malamute or a husky, they were bred to go on the hunt with human
I believe that it all comes with the. Right bonding and cooperation with the dog ofcourse people have to stimulate the brains and doing nice and walks with a lot of fun

Sammies are indeed true working dogs. They originated in Siberia as reindeer herders and sledge pullers, pulling literally over one ton of equipment, tools, gear, etc. Sammies never went on a hunt with their humans. They do love hunting small animals, like rabbits, squirrels, gophers, skunks…..skunks are BAD! Sammies are wonderful herders of reindeer, deer, cattle, humans. Yup, they love herding their people.
Sammies are as strong as Malamutes, being able to haul extremely heavy equipment.
A Sammy has the same classification as a Malamute and a Siberian Husky, a working dog. They love work and get extremely bored if you just want to stimulate their brains, or bring them just on walks. They need to pull, fetch, herd and walk miles each day.
Sammies are great at sledding, albeit slower than a Husky and without the distance of a Husky. My first Sam and Yeti and multiple other family Sams go crazy in excitement when we get the dog sled out.

Since you’ve owned a Husky, you would be a great Sammy owner. Both are incredibly intelligent breeds, who don’t want to do what we ask them to do. They both need to work, while being trained. I had used a game of fetch to help me with training. Just don’t let them go off leash, unless you’re in a fenced in area. They’ll see an animal and ZOOM! Many times coming back with that animal hanging out of their mouth. Skunks are really bad, like REALLY bad! My first Sam, killed a baby skunk and proudly pranced around with the skunk’s head hanging out one side of his mouth, and his tail out the other. My Sam was smiling, throwing him into the air like a squeaky toy and chasing after it when it’d fall to the ground. He was show dog prancing toward me, the cloud of stench circling him like Pig Pen. It was bad. From that moment forward, no more off leash excursions.

We always play games during those walks on that way i try to keep their brains stimulated and the preydrive get less, this afternoon we passed several cats and sheep and swans and duck offleash and both dogs just followed me because it is so kuch fun to walk next to me when i have my lovely duck treats in my hands 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
A Sammy isn’t that way. They will take off after that animal, due to their herding and hunting instincts. Always have a Sam on a leash.

When I walk Yeti, I have his leash wrapped around my wrist. It makes it tough to get off. I have to run after him, when he takes off.

Until they eat your house, due to boredom. They’re working dogs and need a ton of activity. If they don’t get it, regardless of how beautiful, cute, soft and cuddly they are, they would be a challenge.
So right with most of what you said. I had to play with Xiomara while watching you as she was demanding attention. My wife is very sick so I am trying to spend more time with her and Xiomara has become more difficult. A couple of times recently she has got so over-excited that the only way I could calm her down was to get her on her back with my hand around her throat and command her to submit... that way she knows I am the dominant one and not her.
I’m sorry to hear about your wife. That is tough when life gets thrown out of balance. I do hope she recovers soon. Our Sams are so in touch with all changes.
Yeti recently really wanted to go on yet another daily walk. He was barking, spinning around our family room floor, acting really hyper, begging. My husband normally doesn’t raise his voice. This time, however, he did. Instant silence.

Thank you, Ali. I appreciate it. The doctor got all the skin cancer. The scarring could take a year to heal, but I’m fortunate it was easy for them to remove.
Samoyed pros and cons.
Cons: they shed alot.
They need alot of walks love to run too so come here command is a must.
Prey drive: they will ignore you and chase things! some more than others.
Intilligence: they are intiligent they are like huskies in smaller amounts im clever but on my terms.
Grooming: hahahaahaha yeah thats a thing get used to it.
Pros:
They are silly and sleep in all kinda shitty posetions.
They do well with eavryone! Humans dogs uhh whanna play yeah thats a samoyed for you.
Fur is nice to touch and you can even make things out of it like socks scarfs and a shirt if you got enough. Also inner coat is fur but outer is more like hair texture keep that in mind.
They smile alot! and are very playfull!
Cons Versions 2.
They do not like to be alone! so a few hours or work from home is best option.
Expensive is kinda relative but you do need to do alot of things in the first year.
They need a bit more training than most cause of their stubborn nature. If you do not train it ohh hell is loose. They get very stubborn and can rase hell inside if you do not train them within 1-2years. Train them!
first 4-6months they pee alot cause of the bladder is not fully grown. Make sure you make them pee pee outside eavry hr or play and such. Else mom i peed and im like god fucking dammit bastard! We are training Asmodai To actually be vocal when he needs hes pee pee poo poo time.
Pros Version 2.
If you done all the cons they are absolutly adoreble and fun to have around. If you take your time with them and treat them well you have a good companion for life.
Dont play to rough they get over exicted. But if you play with them nicely uhhhh its funny.

You’re discovering many wonderful things about Sammies. They have such delightful personalities and are truly family dogs, needing to always hang out with their families. They do really like laying on cool flooring by the drafty back door too. They’re the best draft stoppers. They also enjoy laying on the cold bathroom floor, watching you every moment. They also like laying on the cool shower floor, or laying against the ceramic tile.

Since i had two norwigan forest cats (yeah those bastards) they need alot of grooming so for me not a problem. She is discovering the awsomeness of grooming :)
wich is both is relaxed and he is now used to it. Asmodai is relaxing and hooman groom him and he is happy and got a cheeky smile.
