  • Just sharing with you all some of the footage that was taken of my Australian Jardini Arowana...truly an incredible fish. Though he grew pretty slow and was very shy, he still show great potential in both beauty and personality! Its a shame he left the way he did...remember when keep Arowana fish to keep the hood/cover over the tank and to fill any and every crack...this guy managed to jump threw a 2 inch gap in the back of my tank that I use for filter parts....RIP

    Hi Darius.. I loved that video. It's so nice you have this record of his life. I'm sorry it ended that way. I can't believe how many people have open tanks. I mean for all different fish including jumpers. I could never do that. I have had one jump out while feeding them.

    Sorry for the loss!
    I had one 4 inch ! I made a partition between a flower horn and golden pearl arowana!
    After few days my Arowana jumped into my Flower horn enclosure and eaten by My Flower horn !
    I felt very bad!
    These guys freek out very easily and sometimes it could be very dangerous!
    We have to take precautions while keeping this fish!

    Tell me how you train your jardini eat dried food likes pellets and hikari sticks
    I hava jardini too, 7cm and so picky about food too

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому

      Well that's pretty young, mine didn't start eating pellets until about 12cm. Mine loved crickets, so I raised my own crickets feeding them hikari sticks so that the protein and taste of the pellet would be in the crickets. The good think about crickets is that they float, so once my aro was at the point of immediately attacking crickets once they hit the surface of the water, I would toss small pieces of the hikari sticks and he would grab them thinking there were crickets. The trick is to make sure its small enough to be swallowed, if its too big it won't be interested much....and eventually it started excepting the sticks regularly, and then I switched to massivore delight sinking pellets which apparently taste better to fish!

      how long are they suppose to live?
      and how big do they get? and what is the minimum tank size? I know they are very big fish, but i was just wondering how big do they actually get XD

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому +2

      In aquariums that can get about 30 inches (in the wild they grow bigger) and these Arowana are not as flexible as the common silver arowana so they need a lot of turning space...thus a bigger tank so the minimum size should be imo 200+gallons. As far as age they can live 20 years...or so I've read...they need a good hood because they are excellent jumpers

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 місяці тому

      Jardini Arowana are known for being aggressive. How big is the tank? As long as they are not in too small of a tank, with enough hiding for the parrot I think once the arowana is bigger it shouldn't see the parrot as a threat which should lead to less conflict.

      Firsty keep a good lid, as they love to jump. A large tank is also required, 200+ gallons. When young you can feed krickets and small fish, but try to train it to eat floating pellets...I used hikari carnivore sticks with good results

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому

      Hello, mine was very stubborn with his diet and only ate live foods. I feed mostly crickets, (which I raised myself feeding them hikari carnivore sticks for added protein) and feeders every now and than. Than when he hit about 5 inches he started accepting pellets so I began to feed hikari massivore delight which is another high protein diet. I'd say try to get yours on a high protein pellet food. You could also try crickets like I did, but once they start eating live foods they can become fussy about pellet foods.

    How did you get a jardini?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  6 років тому

      They are commonly sold in the US, its Asian aro's that are illegal. Jardini's usually run $100-$150 for juvies

  • @2ndchanceinlife
    @2ndchanceinlife 7 років тому +1

    My Jardins is not eating. I think it's gonna die soon. It was eating 10cm dead fishes I buy from the fish market. Now it doesn't even smell the food. Been 3 weeks with no food.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому +1

      Jardini arowana will refuse to eat if stressed or unhappy for long periods of time...if you know Joey the king of diy...he said his arowana went 2 months without eating before because of stress. How big is your arowana and what type of fish do you feed? Maybe try adding a live feeder fish just to see if he's willing to eat that...if not it could be a health issue so you would have to look for signs of illness or parasites and then treat accordingly

    • @2ndchanceinlife
      @2ndchanceinlife 7 років тому +1

      DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS mines only approx 40 cm. I've thrown in a big earthworm and when I came back, I can't find the earthworm anywhere.
      I think I gotta change its food

    • @MrAhpensiko
      @MrAhpensiko 7 років тому +1

      2ndchanceinlife try feeding with lives crickets (protein).. or market shrimps cut into small pieces drop one by one and watch him eat.. before that knock the glass twice to call him for food and he will be anxious waiting for u to feed him. if u have asean arowana is best to feed him market shrimps to become more colorful body slowly.. depends on sizes and water temp, pH and backgroup. Tips from us south east asians king all all arowanas 👍💪💪

    could a festae and jardini work?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому

      Based on my experience, Jardini arowana are some of the meanest fish to keep. Festae are pretty mean too, so I think it could work as long as the jardini aro is smaller or equal in size to them, a Jardini arowana that's larger than its tank mates will most likely bully them and potentially kill them

    • @ljs1845
      @ljs1845 7 років тому +1

      dwsdarius thx I've seen a 5" jardini and my festae is a male 3" and I also have a mean ass pike cichlid who runs the tank

    Why wouldn't you have a lid on your tank, All arowana are known to be active jumpers..

      DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS not exactly a hybrid but like a different breed of jardini, like there's a northern and southern jardini or gulf type... not really sure but I have seen jardini look much more different then yours
