  • In this video, we take you through a comprehensive testing session for the all-new 125-grain maximum expansion bullet designed for the 300 HAM'R cartridge. Bill Wilson and his team have developed a state-of-the-art testing setup involving a specialized 16x16x48-inch stainless water tank with a closed-cell foam bladder at the front, allowing for efficient and repetitive testing.
They showcase how this water tank, paired with other mediums like water bags, ballistic gel, and even hog cadavers, helps evaluate the bullet's consistency and expansion characteristics. The 125-grain maximum expansion bullet is tested rigorously, demonstrating exceptional performance, consistent expansion, weight retention, and penetration across various testing mediums.
The video features multiple test firings, providing insights into the meticulous development process that led to this reliable and effective bullet. From water testing to hog penetration, every step underscores the importance of testing and perfecting a product for the customers' hunting, self-defense, and tactical applications.
Stay tuned for more in-depth insights and exciting bullet tests. Make sure to subscribe for the latest updates on this groundbreaking 2023 release from Lehigh Defense.

I see bullets eventually using tungsten and bismuth cores to retain sectional density and constructed similar to the U.S. military's M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR), which breaks in two pieces as it penetrates and yaws to produce lead core hunting bullet type wounds.

Those bullets expand just like (if not better than) Barnes TTSX bullets, which for my money are the gold standard.

Can these be used in a 300 winmag or 30.06? I'm trying to imagine 125 grain moving at or above 3,000 fps. The damage could be up there with .50 cal solids only without that shoulder breaking recoil.

    • @Lure-Benson

I believe these bullets fired from a 30-06 or 300 win mag would lose the peddles and then these bullets would duplicate the Norma Kalahari bullet that is not made by Norma no longer, but it was made to peal open loose the peddles and the copper shank was to drive on through the animal.
I own some of these Norma Kalahari 150 grain bullets I am loading into 300 Weatherby magnums.

I am 64 years old and have been reloading since 1976 and from 1978 guiding hunters and fishermen from the Pacific NW to Alaska for brown bear and Yukon Moose hunts.
From a young age I hung around a local farther and son gun shop specializing in custom rifles and rifle built on wildcat reloader cartridges.
Now I have a line of AR 10 uppers in all of the WSM magnums and wildcat cartridges plus chamberings not thought of for the AR 10 like whoever thought of chambering the AR 10 in the 250 Savage or the 6.5x50 Jap that I do.
The AR 10 also works great in 6mm Remington or 257 Roberts.
My own AR 10s 3 of them I have chambered in 6mm-284 Win // 6.5-284 Norma and a dangerous game AR 10 in 375-300 WSM so all of my AR builds are way off the chart for unusual and take learned experience to make them work on cartridge never intended for the AR 10.
I also offer advice to people wanting t to build their own AR 10 for any cartridge.

My only gripe is that you shot the hog in the thinnest part. I would rather you have made a shoulder shot so we see how it does when it interacts with bone and shoulder shield. The description on the WC website says it does not expand on bone and I wonder if striking shield/bone on the near side would deform the tip and affect expansion on the far side.

What is the rifling twist for the barrel that was used in this video? If it's good for elk size game, at what maximum yardage are you suggesting it be used? I inquired on your web page where you sell barreled actions and you have two different rifling twists and don't explain what the difference is and their application.

So… did they expand in the hog or in the water tank after…..? We don’t know. Never showed the holes in the plastic basin. I would think if the were already expanded when they went through that plastic they might be a little more deformed. I know! It’s tough to critically think about what you’re NOT being shown.

Is there a minimal muzzle energy that is necessary to stop an attacker? I realize there are multiple variables involved and there is probably not a simple, single answer: but I was wondering if there were some useful guidelines.

Everything else being equal, a faster twist rate stabilizes heavier bullets more than a slower twist rate. I think both the 1:13 or the 1:15 would be fine for a 125 gr. .300 HAM’R bullet, since it isn’t that heavy.

What's being proved in the video is that water is a valid soft tissue simulant when compared to properly prepared and calibrated Type 250A ordnance gelatin and actual tissues. Water testing is just as valid, is less expensive, less time consuming, and less complicated.

The projectiles in the video expanded the same in each test medium, water and gelatin, which proves the validity of inexpensive testing in water as a substitute for Type 250A ordnance gelatin. The comparison proves the dynamic equivalence of water as a valid soft tissue simulant.
