I just got the HE-R9 from Hifiman on sale for $369. Highly recommended at that price. Good overall sound and fun Bass. I've actually been using the HE-R9 for Casual/non competitive Gaming and watching Movies and they are very enjoyable
@@GavinsGadgets For those who may be interested, Hifiman is running a sale on a few other HP's besides the HE-R9. HE-R10D-wired $899. Arya Stealth $1299(outside the UE only). Sundara $300(US and Canada only). HE400se $109
@@GavinsGadgets OK. Would love to get some guidance on a closed back since I already have the HE6, my end game planar on a speaker amp.. Sound magnificent but can be heard upstairs!!! Looking forward to your next review!!
You can’t compare open and closed back headphones as they will always sound different. Both are bloody excellent. The R9 has more bass. Can’t you EQ your open back headphones to add more bass?
With these R9s currently on sale for $369 (minus the bluetooth dac) and the R10D on sale for $899, which do you think is the better buy? Is it worth paying $530 more for the R10D?
@@GavinsGadgets Another difference I noticed is that on the R10, it appears that it only accepts a special 3.5mm cable in the left cup? Whereas the R9 also has the option of using standard dual 3.5mm inputs? Given the poor track record of hifiman cables, it feels as though hifiman should have included dual 3.5mm as an option on the R10 similar to all their other headphones so that people will be able to use other 3rd party cables they already own
they both use the same cable options. the single special cable is balanced, and its possible to get third party options. the reason for this is so it can work with their clip on bluetooth module, which is balanced.
Hmm might have to look at these, was going to go DCO Eon Closed either Drop version or V2. Hard to drive well mobile though was thinking Griffin hence my prev question on that review of low imp and sensitivity ability of the Griffin
@@GavinsGadgets well Santa is bringing me the Deva Pro that I tried and liked (did convince myself there was a dire need for those as well as Sundaras), but what else has a bl mini type device?
@@GavinsGadgets Yes Anada BT although it’s a more traditional approach, the r-@0’s did come with the V1 I remember from your reviews of them. So 999 for R-10 Dynamic and if it’s 40% less for R-9 then based apron Aliexpress price with vat and import added that sounds about right at 550-600 UKP. Don’t suppose you have taken the Dan Clark Audio Eon Drop or Eon 2 closed back for a spin have you to compare, Eon is supposed to have an above average soundstage even though closed back. Something like blue mini from ifi won’t be up to driving it though
Is the imaging pretty standard on this pair? I like listening to that 8d audio type of music because it always surprises me and good imaging makes a great difference.
@@GavinsGadgets strange question but i wonder if these would be able to outperform something like a pair of hd560s for competitive fps gaming. for that you need the right balance of soundstage width and imaging, in order to spacially locate enemies via footstep sound. for a close back i think these should be impressive in that regard
This is like the only video on youtube about these...just got an email from Apos about them so I assume there will be a bunch more reviews soon.
Hopefully there will be some more soon. If you have any questions Jon, let me know.

I'm actually on my way to buying these now, auditioned them yesterday. I crave for this!! ✨
Enjoy your new purchase 👍😀
Please try it before you buy it.
I just bought them for 109 bucks brand new. Is it value? 🙃
Hello Gavin. Excellent video!!! How would you compare he 9r vs focal eleia? Which one is better to you? Thanks a lot
Personally I prefer the R9. More dynamic.
@@GavinsGadgets thanks for your reply!!!
Hey, does it scale with better amps? Also have you tried this on ifi gryphon?
Yes and yes. Liked on gryphon
Great reviw!!! Have you had the chance to listen or compared to Fostex TH900v2?
Thanks James. Not yet. I'll see if there's a way to get them

How do they sound compared to the hifiman edition xs?? Both are almost same price without Bluetooth.
Different sound signatures. One is closed and the other open back.
@@GavinsGadgets honestly don't care that much about open or close. Have open back but need more bass and fun sound. Is r9 sounds bad compared to xs??

The r10D do sound better. You don’t get double the sound difference between the r9s though. Probably 30%

By mobile i mean round house or hotels etc
I really really like these. Quite a competitive market though.

The Ananda BT, HE-R9 as well. I think the R10 did too.

I think so. Out of all my Sennheiser headphones, I've never got on with the 560s as I have the other models.
@@GavinsGadgets yea i believe they are somewhat average for music but revered for gaming, good at pinpointing locations spatially

Are these better than the BT Ananda’s?
I would say they are different sounding, rather than necessarily better. Different driver tech & architecture.
