I met Robert Englund way back in 1985 in Boston at a Si-Fi convention when he was promoting a little TV show called "V". I still have his autograph from that day hanging in my bedroom. Probably now would be considered a small roll for him by today's standards but a rememberable one.
A unique person.I'm so glad Rob was born. What an inspiration he is.Rob is the only actor to inspire and have an affect on me.I wished I were him. A real legend.Live long and happy.Soooooooooo glad you became an actor, because you're a megasuper great one.Much love to you, Sir.
Robert Englund and Michael Keaton are my idols in film. Keaton will always be Batman and nobody will ever replace Robert as Freddy. Freddy greatest villain in all of film history. Robert too omfg such a nice guy and has time for everyone ...so smart and well spoken too. Englund the horror legend just like Cushing , Karloff etc etc. Best horror actor ever in my opinion. Englund is just omg just the greatest
I'm glad they didn't chose a giant to play Freddy, what made him so intimidating and interesting was Robert Englund's enthusiasm and passion for the part.
Yes it's true, I agree with you dude, nobody can fill the role of Freddy, and even if they tried, they could never do it as well as Robert Englund... But I think that the "A Nightmare On Elm Street" remake was disappointing for a lot of reasons, and not just necessarily because it wasn't Robert playing the Freddy role. One of the biggest reasons (In my opinion) was the lack of humor Freddy had, and the lack of creativity Freddy usually had with his kills. There is more but humor was the biggest
I actually like both Robert's role and Jackie's role as Freddy. They both acted great as this traumatising burned killer, and both of them gave me the same creeps.
personally if your a noes fan then u won't hate the remake just won't be your best I have grown up watching these movie and still watch them when I feel like it Robert englund will always be known as Freddy Krueger Jackie took it to a different path now in the short films Roberto is doing his on thing with the character and is doing a great job
This was a well put together interview. As for what you guys keep saying about the Remake I personally had a better time with it than the 3 sequels that followed Dream Warriors. Sigh.. why can't more people hate those movies for ruining 1 character's death and laughing at it?
+Mathew Lerandeau As far as I'm concerned only the first 3 matter. Maybe the spinoff New Nightmare as well but I've yet to check that out. The rest is completely unnecessary including Freddy vs Jason.
Freddy acting like a clown and becoming less scary. I like a lot of the effects in part 4 don't get me wrong but that movie itself feels like a mess to me. There wasn't much to ground the 4-6 for me. In the original You had Nancy flailing, you had someone being possessed in 2, and you had troubled teens in a mental asylum in 3 Now I'm not saying Alice's father problems are nothing but after "Kirsten" gave Alice her powers. I don't know you can tell the script was incomplete by just watching the movie. Most of my dislike of 5 stemmed from 4 but I just mostly hated that it tricked me into thinking Freddy was going to be scary again. Also part 6.. do I need an explanation? I didn't need Freddy's origins explained to me the movie was also complete loonytoons. There is something about the Remake I prefer over those films. I'll take a dark Jackie over a overly goofy Robert personally.
+ProJatior How could Freddy Krueger be scary after we saw him so much in part 2 & 3. Your right about 4 through 6 weren't as good as they could have been but that's cause they showed Freddy to much and didn't keep him in the dark but that was cause he was the star of the movies.
Well to be fair, it was inevitable for Englund to step down for the role sooner or later. It's like the Frankenstein monster, we all know Karloff is THE best one, but he had to pass over the role sooner or later. As for the remake Freddy, I like the idea of having a more darker and sinister Freddy once again. But my only complaint is the make-up, it looks more like molten cheese than an actual burned victim.
Many characters in history will be remade and topped one after another - but Ash Williams and Freddy Krueger will always belong to their original actors!
Actually, the way the skin appears stretched IS how it would truly look after skin grafts. This is the reason why I honestly don't have a problem with it.
Well, on the other hand... Better that they made a remake with new actors, compared to continuing the original, canon series with a new Freddy Krueger actor. As a new Freddy in a new story, the new actor did a good job with what he got. The remake was not good, but had it continued the original, it would be even worse.
Theres nobody, and I mean NOBODY that could've made Freddy scarier than Robert did... I slept in my parents bed with them until I was like 10 because I was scared Freddy was going to get me from under my bed or something, hahah.. now that i'm 24 they're my favorite movies of all time.. and the remake just proves nobody can play Freddy as scary as Robert did..
Is one of the pitcher's in the back of Freddy and Jason sitting down in chairs together? It almost look's like there "shooting the shit" while waiting for the director to call them.LOL
I haven't seen it so I can't say much but it's just that they changed Freddy's make up so much; that's one of the reasons i haven't even considered watching it.
I prefered Robert's regular voice for Freddy, like the one he had in the first Nightmare. I think it became a little too dark in the sequels. I don't mind the voice. Just prefer the first one.
Yes i was disappointed too with the remake, believe me you probly aren't the only one. It's very true when you said that know one can bring the character to life like Robert can. I watched a Hellraiser movie a few day's ago and was disappointed again because Doug Bradly was not playing the title role. The guy they had playing Pinhead was crap! He couldn't act if his life depended on it.
Tyner is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one 18th and the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the one who is the
and the writers right it out by stating if it had to come down to the end it would be freddy taking out jason, look it up im just saying what was written down even tho im a freddy guy over all the others.
Okay enough complaining about the remake. It wasn't bad. The only issue with the remake is nobody would give it a chance. You all had your preconceived notions and refused to give it any credit even if you did deep down like it. The makeup is medically correct for somebody who had those kind of burns. And Freddy was a child molester in the original as well. They just didn't put it right out there in your face because of a trial going on at the time of filming.
You may like the remake, and that's your choice. I'm not gonna fault ya for that. But for those of us, including myself who grew up with the original franchise, Jackie Earle Haley is no Freddy Krueger. And the makeup in the remake may have been medically correct, yes, but they could have done a better job with it instead of using CGI to enhance it! When David Miller did the original makeup, he basically created it from a medical textbook of real burn victims and also through a bit of trial and error with 4 or 5 different busts he had created. Wes Craven basically pointed out what he liked from each of the busts, and that became Freddy's look. I will say that they did try with the remake, and did an ok job with what they were given, but in my opinion they took classic scenes from the original and ruined them. Please don't consider this as my making a statement like "Oh you're stupid for liking the remake" cause that's not what I'm trying to do at all. I'm just trying to give you my point of view as a fan who grew up loving the original franchise, gave the remake a chance and just wasn't pleased with it. Take care pal.
Nobody could ever replace Robert as Freddy Krueger no matter how hard they try. The 2010 remake was a major disappoint in my eyes. While Jackie was a great actor the make up, Plot and characters did not fit the roles properly. This is why the should not remake Classic's. The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th, Night of The Demons, Halloween those are more examples. The remakes did not fit the storylines intended in the original's. Just my opinion.
@Lilrockercutie2005 um hate to break this to you but I was born in 1984 and literally grew up with this franchise. The 1st movie I ever saw on the big screen was NOES 4. Not anybody out there is a bigger fan or knows more about Robert Englund or the original franchise then me. I just happen to think Haley did a great job with the material.he was given.
You were born the year the first film came out, yet you're somehow the "biggest" fan who knows more than anyone.. Lol rightttt. The only thing about this comment that is redeeming is the "the remake is not that bad" part. The rest is just pretentious crap lol. No one likes that shit.
i don't know bout yall but l was very disappointed with the nightmare on elm street remake! l'm sure Robert Englund is very...tired of the role he played over 25 yrs ago but..no one and I mean NO ONE can fill the role as Freddy Kruger!
jebus christ people still bitching about the remake.... the nightmare remake was the best out of all the horror remakes. I know that doesnt make it good in your opinion, but Haley did a good job with what he was given. of course hes not going to be as good as rob, just be happy rob zombie didnt write it

There'll be a thousand Batman's, Spider-man's but there'll only be one Freddy Krueger and that's Robert Englund.
I met Robert Englund way back in 1985 in Boston at a Si-Fi convention when he was promoting a little TV show called "V". I still have his autograph from that day hanging in my bedroom. Probably now would be considered a small roll for him by today's standards but a rememberable one.
Some people are born to be legends.Englund is an international icon.
He is the reason everyone always roots for freddie in the movies.
Robert is the man of my dreams i love him
hearing Freddys voice is like an eargasm im not kidding i love him so much! im obsessed!
A unique person.I'm so glad Rob was born. What an inspiration he is.Rob is the only actor to inspire and have an affect on me.I wished I were him.

This is The only Freddy I know. That remake was some bullshit. He looked like a cat in the new one....Robert England will Always be OG freddy
Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees, and Freddy Kreuger are like Batman, Superman, and Spider-man! ICONS!
Wow, awesome to see some of Englund's collection!
I would love to meet Robert Englund
I agree!! I was only 13 when I saw this film and I couldn't sleep for two weeks after. Scared the *hit outta me!!
I'm glad they didn't chose a giant to play Freddy, what made him so intimidating and interesting was Robert Englund's enthusiasm and passion for the part.
There is a street called elm street I always pass by when I'm coming home from school
Robert Englund is the best in horror
What are you talking about? Robert Englund is alive and well. He recently voiced a character in the recent black ops video game.
Love Robert England 💘 great actor

wow that book is huge

no one will ever be as good of as freddy as robert englund was...wish he would have been in the mew freddy! i was quite dissapointed.

The remake was good but only if considered in a totally different league. It must be considered separately from the original.
I finally have someone that likes both of them
yes it is, he is in a movie and they took him and put him in the game, they should of made him freddy but robert englund is just fine haha
On the remake of course
Englund is Freddy Kreuger
Agreed
You know they should do a Sequl to Freddy vs Jason, but this time get Michael involved.
HELL YEA NO ONE CAN REPLACE FREDDY!!!! ROBERT ENGLUND IS FREDDY
