I’m in my mid 50’s and my oldest is 26 , his friends frown up at the music he listens to because its all 90’s boom bap that i played when he was a toddler and teenager. His music preference is Gangstarr, BIG, Wu- Tang, The LOX, EPMD, KRS-1, Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, DeLA Soul, Jay- z ,RedMan, RAss Kass, Souls Of Mischief, MOBB Deep, NAS etc.., his friends always tell him - why you always playing that old head music and he always tell them because i like the way it sounds. He told me recently he likes some new music and of course it was Griselda and Contra Costa - sounding like what he grew up on.

For the industry to downplay HIPHOP during it's infancy implies they were trying to stifle our growth by stifling our music, a lot of our history was passed down through music, story telling, and ritual. The civil rights movement is a moment in history where "they" said our melanin was activated to a high degree, pardon my lack for better terms at this time. When Jazz broke out and Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Lester Young, and countless others transformed music into a code that was dope that we understood and "they" didn't, "they" shitted on it then too, until they had time to study it and try to mimic it and then appropriate it as if it was their own and sell it to America as a "White" thing. When the mid to late 80's into the early 90's HIPHOP became more about knowledge of self we put them in FEAR. Anytime we move in a way that's progressive we put our opps in fear, pat attention!
