@IMAFAN1971 Actually a lot of the 80's have aged very well: Duran Duran (except Andy Taylor), Jon Bon Jovi, Simon Gallop (The Cure), Kim Wilde (she lost 40lbs last year and looks great), Nena, Morissey, Johnny Marr, all of the members of Depeche Mode (especially Dave Gahan!), Tommy Stintson (Replacements), Mark O'Toole (FGTH), Terry Nunn (Berlin), Cy Curnin, Pat Benetar, and Debbie Harry, all aged pretty darn well.
Sadly, little did we know this is were it all started going badly wrong, Roger had already quit the band after Live Aid, and Andy was giving Simon the runaround and was about to leave also :(
Yeah, you can see the weight gain from the booze in his face here - in his bio, which I recommend, he talks a bit about what was going on. If I got the timing right, at this point he was aware he had a problem, he could see its effects too, but he didn't know what to do about it yet. Looks aside, he's also a talented, clever & eloquent guy - but behind the persona, he was just a geek who one day discovered he was gorgeous and was still learning to live with fame - shame about the drugs.
@maxixe I believe at this time, JT was starting to become addicted to alcohol. I think by 85, most of the Duranies were full blown coke-addicts. Glad that JT and Simon cleaned and sobered up.
all of them were a full blown addicts except roger. people dont know that these kind of substance can be so addictive just like psychotropic drugs, nicotine, alcohol and caffeine. some people can be more addicted than others

John wrote a book where he said he didn't have a drug problem til he was in his late 20s until his middle 30s. He realized he had a problem and went to rehab and is clean and sober to this day...
He said it was in his late 20s to his middle 30s. Not at this time. Read his book, all of it. He said the drugs he took with alcohol and he was never in a stupor and it's good on him he turned his life around after rehab and has been sober for 24 years.

In about 1986 - as i said - alcohol and drugs have taken control slowley over him. Of course 2, 3 years later, when he was skinny as hell, he was in deeper troubles but it startet earlier, i guess in 1984. I have read his book and Andys book too.

As far as bands from back then go, it’s ended up well. Andy sadly left again, but it’s amazing that 4 of the Fab 5 are still going strong in 2023.
