Kowa optics are incredible . Cheaper than Zeiss , Leica and Swarovski , but definitely on parr or better and definitely better bang for buck . The BD2 XD binoculars are also worth checking out for their brightness and field of view plus great close focus for insects .
I have a Kowa 883. I'm having trouble attaching a plate to the foot that will not loosen and slip during use. What do you guys use, and how do you do the plate to foot attachment so it stays put.
@@yanliliu4558 I love it. Fabulous. I'm very happy with this scope. I much prefer the focusing mechanism on the Kowa scopes v. the swaro scopes. The swaro has the modular thing going. But, that is not important to me. I will likely never acquire more than one spotting scope. If I was considering the $4k price range, I would choose the new Kowa TSN-99. Am I going to upgrade? No. am very happy with hte 883. it hits the sweet spot for me.
In the three weeks since this post I have sorted out what I think is the best way to attached the Kowa 883 to a tripod head. The key is to use a plate that has a lip on one end and no rubber strips on the surface. These features will eliminate rotation of the scope around the plate.

Is the 773 so versatile as the 883 regarding unsing of astronomical eyepieces?
very good spotting scope but you better go bear watching and bird watching than bear hunting.
