What is an Internet Gateway? AWS VPC Essentials
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 бер 2021
- An Internet Gateway is a critical component of your AWS VPC. Its main role is to facilitate internet access for resources inside your VPC. In this video, I walk you through what an internet gateway is, how it works, and demonstrate its concepts with a practical example.

So better than sifting thru AWS docs
Thanks Valerie!
This is a super underrated channel
I say nobody can explain IGW better than this!
Thanks so much Ben!
Smooth and clear explanation, thank you.
So far the best AWS videos so far. I have watched all your aws videos. Thanks again for your excellent work
Thanks so much mustapha!
Great explanation as always!
Such a clear explanation! I have watched some other videos and none could explain better

good content.
Thanks vas!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
Love this, finally get to understand the IGW in VPC! Only 1 confusing part that "VPC and Internet Gateway is 1 to 1 mapping", I heard "it can / can't attach to xx?" Might be great if expand the word to avoid confusion :)
I heard that too
Sir ,please tell me you got online classes on Udemy or somewhere, please.Gosh, this is as clear as it can be explained.
Hi there, I do! I have a course on Udemy focused on AWS Lambda. It’s called AWS Lambda - A Practical Guide. I also have a course on my own website called the AWS Learning Accelerator. It’s available at courses.beabetterdev.com
really like it cleared lots of doubts,
only 1 doubt now, how to attach elastic IP to internet gateway so that , it can be whitelisted in firewall by third party
Amazing job dude
Thanks Talha! Glad you enjoyed.
thank u
where can i find the video on the setup and configuring the nat gateway?
Cool
How my elastic beanstalk has no elastic ip and why I had to set up the public snet to the load balancer and the private snet to the instance ?
Hi - thanks for making this great video! If it isn't too much trouble for you, could you explain, in a bit more detail, the "Horizontal Scaling" from 4:15 , please? Also, can an "idle" IGW be configured to automatically attach to a VPC should the one already attached to the VPC fail? - Thank you!
Hi Admon,
In this context, Horizontal Scaling means that if your internet network traffic breaches certain levels, AWS will automatically absorb the load and deploy additional infrastructure components to keep up with your network demands. Internally, they would accomplish this by adding more machines to field your traffic. This last bit is what Horizontal scaling typically means.
I also have a whole video on Horizontal and Vertical scaling where you can learn more: ua-cam.com/video/p1YQU5sEz4g/v-deo.html
Hope this helps
Daniel
@@BeABetterDev Ah, I see. Thank you for the explanation! I was thinking the IGW scales 😅. Very helpful, thanks again!
Hi, thanks for the cool video! A comment - I found a bit confusing your definition of the NAT gateway. You claim it does not allow for ANY inbound traffic to the private resource, but that is not quite precise. It needs to allow the response from the request coming from that resource (i.e. when installing updates, or making API calls).
Traffic coming back from a request is not considered inbound traffic. To be more specific "traffic initiated from the internet". The traffic coming back to the NAT gateway is initiated from itself, not the internet.
Isn't the whole point of having private Ip addresses to conserve ip addresses,so wouldnt they be having same Public Ip address?
Edit:Tried out two ec2 instances in the same subnet with auto assign public ip address enabled, they had different public addresses
Awesome Tutorial ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank You
Thank you so much.
The Internet gateway & NAT gateway shoud be the same component. It shoud be able to both the jobs.
I think for public subnet there wont be any NAT action. NAT action will be only for private subnet. I may be wrong.
Hi there, NAT is only required if you have a private subnet that requires internet access. However if you are only using a public subnet, you can route your traffic directly through the IGW.
interesting
