I remember seeing him when I was used to work at the airport back in the Dominican Republic in the early 2000s, He would pilot his plane very nice humble gentleman.
Such a humble, oustanding human being. A fantastic, articulate racing driver and accomplished business man. Very direct and honest personality. Along with his old foe and friend, James Hunt, these glorious personalities are hugely missed today.
I remember as a kid watching Formula 1 with my dad. I remember a man appearing on screen quite briefly wearing a Jaguar cap(This was back when Niki was working with Jaguar)and I noticed his ear missing and some of the scars. I asked my dad what happened to him to which my dad replied “he was in an accident back when he raced in formula 1, guy was badly burnt” I then asked my dad was he any good? And my dad replied “ one of the best son” and then proceeded to tell me about Niki’s career. Needless to say I was a huge Niki fan ever since and having recently watched Rush it reminded me about this guy Niki that me and my dad talked about when I was younger so I started looking up interviews with him and now I’m a die hard fan. I was always a Senna guy but Niki was just special in his own unique way, absolutely gutted he’s gone. R.I.P Champ.
Yes I did read the comment, niki was so different than any body in general, he was rude , not respectful to no one , attitude and most of all I couldn’t hate him but I found out that I always did respect him so much and liked niki so much only after he died I’m still shocked, never knew it I go all the time when I have a trouble and remember niki what would he say or do unfortunately he’s gone but alive in our hearts
You did such an amazing job when you interviewed him, and this is a fitting and wonderful tribute. Thank you Graham, for being one of the best there is, and for giving us the opportunity to see different sides of Niki before he passed.
@@User-nu6km BS. Handello is right. The scarring blended in more as time went by, and I think theres a possibility he had some touch up surgeries at some point, because there was a HUGE difference in how he looked in the few years after the accident, and when this interview happened.
Hi Graham, you did a wonderful work here. Your interview and the movie Rush (more your interview) gave tribute to this amazing man and exposed him to millions who now admired him. He was a huge inspiration in so many ways and you did a fair job with your interview. Thanks and please keep the good work....(have you thought about a podcast?)
Vtec49 wtf to you. This is a serious interview not ruined by *that* question, memes, or any other nonsense like the rest of UA-cam. That's why he only has 200k subs and tbh that's good bc the more subs the more they might start to turn into the other big channels that just make me want to gouge my eyes out
@@saratoga123321 Thanks for elaborating ur VAGUE answer above, I agree, Lauda was a beast, and I been following Graham since the beginning no doubt he's my favourite interviewer, but it was a normal question from Picogram it was not meant to be funny or a meme lol peace
A Speed Demon and ultimate professional. He is certainly and will always be one of the best formula 1 drivers. May you rest peacefully. However, we all know you are, where ever it may be racing and doing things you are a doer.
Well, he was grateful. To Marlene. They went through his horrific crash together. He has spoken with equal fondsness about his second wife, who gave him a kidney (!!!), in other interviews.
The accident caused so much internal damage..if you listen to interviews before the accident and after the accident his voice changed, it’s remarkable really
Agreed. A different era, where men were tougher and stronger than following generations. The guy was an absolute stud, who faced challenges head on, and didnt complain. We need more men like Niki Lauda nowadays.
14:24 "Joa und jetzt?!" :-D Lauda was one of a Kind. I never really liked him and he had some weird opinions as a pundit but he did so much for safety and was all around such a legend... His death was just unbelievably saddening.
RIP Niki ❤️❤️ they don’t make them like this anymore..an incredible man and driver, the world has lost a great when you said goodbye. Great interview, in regulates to his second wife she wasn’t liked by Niki fans. She was 26 when she pursued him he was 56. She saw money signs and security. She gave him a kidney but that was a very small price to pay for what she got in return. In Austria the Lauda name is a very powerful one because of the Lauda family. She saw money, security and the name which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone about her motives but the interview was great!
4:00 so the movie Rush lied about Lauda telling Enzo that this Ferrari F1 was shit? in the scene he lies to enzo and says 'lauda thinks the car is fine' why would u change something so important. everyone says enzo was ridiculously hard to work with, so for Enzo to ask why he thought the car was crap, im guessing its bcus he respected lauda or wanted to know why lauda woulda say this, seems extremely important to me
To be honest I wished to get just a raw interview without interruption and without those back lines with that off-voice. Just him talking. It'd be a very nice tribute. But guess, your choice matters.
@@TheKingduffy138 I did it. Actually when they teased this tribute I suggested in the comments to upload all what they filmed even the behind the scenes in one video tribute. And I said that it'd be more legendary than all documentaries they did on him.
the actor who played him in "Rush", Daniel Bruhl, deserved an Oscar! so powerful and moving! r.i.p Niki Lauda. Such a courageous man!

I remember asking my dad the same question. He tried to explain it to me when I was younger. He just said Niki was in a crash that almost killed him.
i asked too my dad when he came back to f1 in 1982...

Thank you for making these videos. Best interviews of him I have seen
The only channel I’m willing to watch the 2 ads for.
Only thing wrong with this video is it wasn't long enough could have watched niki for hours heaven has one heck of a race team

LATE comment"2021" from Florida, Graham you don't know how lucky you were to be with a real "MAN" RIP NIKI LAUDA,,,.....
Its a soul, the way he handle with dignity looking for the reasons of Lauda Air crash , I love this guy pushing Boing. And he won. !!!!
I don't think Niki looked ugly at all.
thats because we got used to it

You can really tell his heart was still with his first wife when he talked about her, he didn’t speak about his second wife that way

I'm envious of Graham for being able to meet nikki. Back in the 70s we could get a channel on cable that showed formula 1 seen him race
