    BOSS BLIND TIER LIST!Where do you agree/disagree?

    • @askthepizzaguy
      @askthepizzaguy 2 місяці тому +4

      Can't possibly disagree with your more skilled and learned opinions as they relate to your experience, which is much greater.
      That said, I think some of these bosses are a lot less scary when your run is not struggling and you're getting the chips, mult, and multiplicative jokers you need to greatly outscore the target amount, but some of these bosses are just run enders when you're not optimized yet and you're just squeaking by with planet cards and tarot cards to slightly mold your deck a bit every ante and gradually gain power, but you haven't unlocked a ton of glass cards and red seals and steel cards yet to blow the scores out of the water.
      Which, I feel, affects us folks who aren't so great at rapidly ramping up our power simply because we don't know all the ways to do so very well or quickly.
      So for the well optimized runs, some of these are pushovers when you know the strategies and have the experience under your belt, and things are going well. But the sudden score jumps like The Wall utterly wreck runs that have been getting screwed by RNG to the point where you're not dead, but you're needing every hand and discard and just barely leveling up to the target amount each ante.
      That applies the same way to some of the other bosses which you ranked as more annoying or unaffecting, simply because they're going to drain from your score in some way. Give you an example, the House.
      Because all your cards are drawn face down, and this isn't super deep into the run where you've had enough spectral or tarot cards to mold your deck, the RNG gives you a high chance of getting a bunch of cards you don't want and ruin hands, and they're all face down so you can't make accurate plays or discards, and you are wasting discards or hands just to start playing good hands.
      In those situations those boss blinds are absolute run enders, because it is impacting how much you can realistically score that round, wasting your vital discards or hands on things that don't help your score.
      It admittedly might be fazing me more because I pretty much haven't really left blue deck or white stake difficulty so I'm far from expert and haven't even unlocked all the jokers yet, and I try to play out every run and try to get to ante 8 and further with every run, so the RNG might be screwing me over more than someone who can intuit when a run is dead and reroll it. I never reroll it, so for my experience:
      The Wall, especially once you're past ante 8 and you suddenly need millions of points when you're barely cracking 1M...
      The House which you ranked as unaffecting but costs you between 1-2 hands or discards just to play your hands properly, and you can't afford to lose that score a lot...
      The Arm, draining the power of your hands as you play them, causing you to miss the otherwise reasonable target amount....
      The suit debuff bosses, before I've had a chance to remove the unwanted suits from the deck or when it's debuffing my target suit...
      Those guys are my run enders, as a more beginner strength player. They always push you from just barely getting by to a place where it's just never gonna happen, because they force you to lose needed hands or discards that you were using to keep up with score, or they make the target amount unreachable. These are all just ways of tipping you over the edge in a way that the small and big blinds can't do to you because they don't have those effects.
      Further, because you can always skip the small and big blinds, they are always at worst neutral and otherwise helpful. They can kill you if you play them, but if you're losing to them, you were going to lose to the boss anyway who is worth more and has more negative effects. So I would argue they belong in literally helps. Playing them boosts your cards or hands that scale by playing them, they allow you to play held tarot and planet cards before the boss, they generate money, they have no ill effects, and can be skipped and grant bonuses in the form of tags when doing so. All of that is positive, so I feel they more appropriately belong there with the serpent in Literally Helps tier, even if they don't grant you a larger hand size. Heck, the serpent even killed one of my runs because I was playing flushes and the serpent absolutely destroys you when you need several flushes to win. It eats any five card hand builds alive unless you have massive hand size to begin with.
      Which is why I'd argue large and small blinds belong equal or even easier or more helpful than serpent. Just my opinion.
      I certainly don't disagree with your assessment of any of the others. The ones you find tough, I certainly do, the ones you find easy that I haven't mentioned, I'd much rather face off against.
      Were I to do a tier list from the perspective of those new to balatro, I'd rank Wall, House, Arm, and the suit debuffers as S tier for wall and A tier for the others, as those are most likely to crush beginners who haven't found many pathways to unlocking tons of X multipliers, so our power gains scale by barely above what is needed to survive an ante as opposed to blowing them out of the water early.
      That tier list would be purely my take, and I'd also advise people to turn to this or several other channels and hear from someone actually good at the game to get a better take. But I'd also say, if you are new to balatro, hold on to your butt with those boss blinds, in my experience they devour newer players.

      High stakes player...Disclaimer: I think this matters less now with recent orange/gold stakes making a lot more builds viable. Agree with Water and Flint placement. I'd bump up Eye and Needle to run killer. I'm borderline on Wall/violet vessel as it definitely kills a lot of my runs but it is a much less feels bad man. I am usually high card/pairing so to me personally Plant is in annoying tier but with new gold it has cost me one run so far.
      Also I agree with the placement of pillar but all my homies hate pillar.

    Tbh I would just swap the plant and violet vessel. Violet vessel kills so many gold stake runs for me, because I'm often skating by with ~100K per hand play in the late game. Being asked to jump to a million is absurd.
    Both of these boss blinds are absolute run enders in certain circumstances. I'd only rate the plant slightly lower since it is countered by certain builds (high card builds) and decks (like abandoned deck).

    I wouldn't worry too much about other people also making balatro content as long as these are your takes and opinions- of the balatro content creators, I prefer to see your takes and videos. It's a combination of the good attitude you have, your personality and the content itself. Even if someone else makes a type of thing first, that doesn't mean it is the best. If that were true, we'd only ever have one brand of frozen pizza out there, and it wouldn't be nearly as delicious. Having many brands out there is great for the marketplace.
    Your brand is good and I intend to keep coming back, doesn't matter what anyone else is doing.

      @@murphyobv It figures someone else with good balatro content would see that comment. I've seen most of your content as well. It is very good for sure.
      Especially with these opinion based content videos like tier lists, the different perspectives aspect is rather important. I was watching Tears Of The Kingdom tier lists, one ranked the various yiga schematics and schema stones and while I liked the content, I heavily disagreed with some of the rankings because it was clear the creator didn't think to use ascend for the scaffolds which are probably one of the only schematics that don't need to be redesigned and can genuinely be helpful with either combat or traversal both, and it's cheap. If more people were making tier lists, I'd bet I'd have seen takes that offered different perspectives with greater expertise or experience involved and all would have been enjoyable to watch, but there was only the one or two takes out there that I got to even see. It's a bummer when there's no one making the content you want, variety is the spice of life and more content means more free fun.

    We making it out of Ante 8 with this one ⁉⁉🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
    For me a blue stake bob I think this list holds up really well, the only things I would change are as follows due to my personal runs.
    The Wheel can be annoying when you need those 5 card played hands for earlier antes. Sometimes I got unlucky due to not being able to discard enough for a guaranteed flush or full house to hit and then I lose so I think it's definitely annoying.
    Cerulean Bell is a killer, I hate seeing it no matter the build. If it picks a glass card when I'm not ready to play my full hand, I'm ruined. If it picks a steel card when I'm trying to play a high card, I might be losing out on essential chips, I'm ruined. It terrorises me from white to blue stake.
    The mouth can also be an early run killer because you might be relying again on those 5 card hands, and on higher stakes you don't have the discards to hit what you're looking forward to, especially considering that ante 2, 3, 4 just can ruin your run like the plant does with face card runs, I think it's a hard boss blind, at least on the lower end.

    Before i watch this I'm going to assume that Serpent is going to be put in "literally helps" tier, and i want to explain what his effect actually is and how it can actually kill you (how it killed me once). If you're trying to build a certain *hand,* yes he helps by letting you overflow your hand size so much. If you are looking for *specific cards*, he can kill you by reducing your digging power to 60% of normal. I went in with a Triboulet, S/B, smiley face build once and only needed a pair of kings or queens to win. I had 6 Kings and 4 queens in the deck. Because i had limited hands and discards, i was only able to draw 20 cards total before the final hand, instead of 28, and i only drew ONE king and died. Obviously there's still a chance of low rolling and not finding the pair after 28 cards drawn too, but i would have MUCH preferred those odds. He's still not as bad as the Water in that situation but i did gain a new respect for how Serpent can actually screw you.

    • @ZainoTVLive
      @ZainoTVLive  2 місяці тому +2

    • @edgeman1135
      @edgeman1135 2 місяці тому

      I don't think the boss would be unbalanced if it no longer ignored hand size. If discarding 5 gave 3 cards, and discarding 1 after that brought it back to the max hand you'd still have a boss weaker than start with 0 discards.

    • @Cloiss_
      @Cloiss_ 2 місяці тому

      @@ZainoTVLive yeah, the Serpent punishes you for digging for specific cards, or for playing a no-discard build (e.g. banner, green joker, ramen) and trying to play a 5-card hand, as you'll run out of cards to play (e.g. flushes on Checkered). Most of the time, though, being able to discard just 1 card and still draw 3 is beneficial for helping you line up your hard-hitting hands that don't require a specific 1 card at the bottom of your deck.

    I agree with the tierlist almost entirely (especially the arguments made for the worse blinds, 100% agree), but I think psychic is the easiest boss blind by a huge margin, i think i only had one game in 70 hours of play where it was bad. The reason is that the face card has to be scoring to reset Ride the bus, which normally shouldnt happen 95% of the time. Also in my opinion Ride the bus is a bad joker in general (slow scaling, too dangerous to break except in ancient deck). It does hurt half joker though, but this doesnt come up often, it's too specific. I lost many more times to bosses like the wheel when i need very specific cards in gold stake and i get unlucky on the 1/7.

    • @askthepizzaguy
      @askthepizzaguy 2 місяці тому

      Newer player here, this comment is relevant to my interests since flush build is kind of my favorite build and crutch.
      Because flush scales not so well with planet cards compared to higher scoring hands, if you're doing a dedicated flush build you want to do a couple things-
      Use tarot cards and spectral cards to clone the suit you want, destroy the suit you don't, but also have 2 suits going until you get past the boss that devours your preferred suit, since once you do, you never see it again. At that point destroy your remaining suit.
      Planet cards and jokers that buff flushes are needed. It's just not strong enough to make it unless you really go hog wild on dedicating yourself to flushes.
      Make the particular suit you want to shoot for a bunch of chip cards and mult cards, get them polychrome if you can and copy that card, get them red seals.
      The second suit, make that your suit to put gold cards and steel cards and card held in hand bonuses or discard cards.
      Destroy suits 3 and 4, don't buff them at all. Any cards you want to keep from second suit, use the tarot cards to change their suit.
      Avoid wild cards, they get debuffed by too many bosses. I hate wild cards even though they're supposed to help flushes.
      Don't even do wild cards, just change the suit with tarot cards.
      Tip, as an order of operations guideline, buy and play spectral cards first in shops because you could suddenly get the one that changes a bunch of cards to one suit, affecting your decision which jokers to buy and which suit to play for. For the same reason, do tarot cards second, because they can also affect what suit or how many of a suit you have, or apply the needed buffs to build out your deck.
      Planet cards for Jupiter are a must, so generate a good economy and always snatch them up. The thing you can buy that guarantees the most played hand has the planet you want is a godsend and always buy it. Tarot cards also generate planet cards sometimes or allow you to copy the last played planet card, so tarot is especially important for flush build.
      These tips will likely only help someone of my skill level or lower, and I'm not very experienced, but since I love my flush builds, I've found the above to be extremely helpful. I can even almost always get past the boss blinds that debuff my flush build simply because I put that optimized strategy in there to have a second suit available until I get past that specific blind, which never appears again.
      If your flushes are worth enough, it's fine that half your hands aren't your preferred flush for the early to middle game. The common plus mult joker for specific suits isn't so overwhelmingly powerful that it makes a different flush non-viable to beat the boss that debuffs your best suit. You can usually beat the boss with a couple of flushes of the second most preferred suit, three sometimes, but if you're playing well or your run isn't terrible RNG you don't need three, so you can discard the cards you're getting from the wrong suit, especially if you have been diligent in reducing the existence of the two other suits so that it's like 50/50 youre getting the card you want, and the odds increase as you discard the suit you can't use.
      It takes a long time and a lot of spectral or tarot cards to wipe your deck of three suits, so target 1 first as much as possible, then 2, and hold off on the third suit being destroyed until it's guaranteed that your final suit never gets debuffed. Play it safe.
      By that deep in the game, the card that applies mult to your favorite suit is not powerful enough to keep up with the scaling target amount, and you want to trade it for X multiplier jokers ASAP anyway. Those cards are nice boosts to plus mult early, but plus mult needs to be replaced especially once you have several mult cards in your deck. It's just wasting a joker slot.

    The Mouth I think is almost always harder than The Needle.
    I don't think Plant is deserving of such a high ranking when the suited blinds are so low, unless you are talking about endless instead of just getting a win where specific face card shenanigans might be favored.
    The Psychic is a vanilla blind in most situations so I would rank it C, I'd probably swap it with The Tooth which is always going to hurt somewhat, and in some cases quite a bit.

  • @NubTactics
    @NubTactics 2 місяці тому +1

    I think crimson heart is much harder than verdant leaf, and potentially a run killer.
    I've had several runs where I have a scaling + mult joker, chip joker, and times mult, and crimson heart will just hit one of the three core jokers and make my play worth 1/4th the expected value several times in a row. Heart hitting your 8x scaled obelisk, followed by your 100+ trousers is brutal, and can kill runs where you need 2 out of 4 hands to be good because you got unlucky.
    Often times with balatro runs, you have an economy joker that you're carrying with you to the end of the game to keep your plays open. If you get verdant leaf with an econ joker on deck, then verdant leaf literally does nothing, because you sell your econ joker and play as normal.
    I actually think there's a little bit too much overlap with the function of crimson heart and verdant leaf (verdant leaf is strictly an easier crimson heart) and that one of them should be changed.

  • @rex_yaldabaoth

    Needle is honestly harder than the no discard one. As you can still use hands as discards while you cant scale jokers or use card sharp against needle

    I don’t know if The Serpent had an issue or was glitched on console, but this one killed me every time. Instead of putting 3 more cards in my hand, it would reduce my hand size. If I discarded 3 or 4 times, my hand size went all the way down to 4 or 5 cards.

    • @ZainoTVLive
      @ZainoTVLive  2 місяці тому

      It will only ever add three cards, so if you discard 5 you would lose 2 in your total hand. You need to only discard 1 and your hand size actually gets bigger because it still adds 3!

    I dont usually find the plant that hard, but its because i dont usually go for face cards because the plant exists. Same for verdant leaf where the whole run im thinking which of these jokers is going if that mf shows up

    I would put water and the needle right next to each other in killer. Having 2 discards and 1 hand is sometimes even WORSE than the water where you get 4 hands. Because you can use the 3 hands as discards (which is more than 2 discards) to try to find your good hand.
    You're also guaranteed to make no money from extra hands. And economy can be everything.
    The saving grace is that The Burglar absolutely beats it by itself. Whereas the only joker I know that helps with The Water is Chicot. The water is also super easy if you're playing pair/high card a lot of the time. The needle is always going to be hard unless your average score is super high and you're playing a relatively consistent hand. The needle is the single most killing boss when doing the jokerless challenge as well (at least for me I lost more to it than the water).
    I also find I die to the Crimson Heart more than I'd like... usually runs where I'm playing pair/high card and I don't really have much base to work with with stuff like glass/steel.

    Small blind should be S tier because aside from skipping it, it's the first blind of higher orders of magnitude you'll fight each round. Usually ends my runs.

    • @ZainoTVLive
      @ZainoTVLive  2 місяці тому

      Normally the small blind is lower than the previous boss blind though, until you get into very high antes.

  • @yoppyyoppy6794

    Personally, I think the water and the flint are kind of overrated. I play a lot of high card builds, so maybe that's why. The water doesn't really affect you very much unless you're running banner when doing high cards, and for the flint, most of your mult and chips comes from jokers anyways. The needle on the other hand should be S-Tier. On high stakes, on most decks, you start with 4 hands and 2 discards. The water takes away 2 discards, but the needle takes away 3 hands. It hurts cycling through your deck even more than the water, and if you rely on playing multiple hands to win or if you've got card sharp you just lose. I'd also move up the violet vessel and move down the bell. I don't think I've ever lost to the bell, but I think the vessel is the boss blind I'm least likely to ever make it by. I guess that's why high card builds are just so strong in general, there's not really any boss blind that stops them completely

    • @ZainoTVLive
      @ZainoTVLive  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, exactly. High card builds are OP, was trying to take into account more, including high score runs. For just high card, you basically don't love physic or extra large blinds, that's it.

    The worst part about Violet vessel if you got it is YOU KNOW you cant win before even going in, theres almost no RNG, theres no gimmick, its just a big chip barrier that kills you if you dont have the score per hand.
    Actually demoralizing to see vessel

    I kind of disagree about the reasoning for your evaluation on The Water. I don't disagree with the actual tier you put it in (it def deserves S), I just feel like the reasoning that The Water is brutal in high stakes due to hand size being smaller is wrong because if you're playing high stakes in 1.0.0, or maybe even 1.0.1, odds are, you're playing a high card build, so 9/10 times, you don't care (only in Orange/Gold).

    this might be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like boss blinds either shouldn't exist or should only be on challenge runs or something. Or at the very least we should have a guaranteed method of rerolling even just one in a given run. As someone who's still working through all the stakes, It really sucks to lose a run because you're unlucky and get the one boss blind that absolutely neuters the deck you've shaped. I get that you're probably supposed to plan for that, but it's just an un-fun mechanic to me.
