      Great video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Patlarny Vehicle History Principle (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great one off product for discovering how to repair your car the simple way without the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend Sam got great results with it.

    Hi and thanks alot for great tutorial videos. You' ve saved me and many others lots of money, thats for sure!!! :) I have followed almost everyone of your videos and because the were so detailed, I have done alot more upgrades and repairs than I actually have planned for. So; What I would need and appreciate alot now is a tutorial video on how to replace the whole strut on the rear of a V70 (my car) / S60 (your car). No videos on this topic seems to be available. Maybe its time for you to do a rear spring replacement as it seems this has not been done on your car, either? :)

    Thank you so much for your video! Sure helped me alot, were about to take my car to the local garage to change them, with your video I see I can do it myself. My SAAB 9-5 was scrapped after a accident four weeks ago(some idiot ran a red light infront of me, I was rearended by another car, the fire service had to cut my car open since they were afraid of neck/back injuries), I bought a 2001 V70 just a few days ago and the shock absorbers needs to be changed and I know nothing about "newer" cars.

      Sorry to hear about your crash and I hope you're on the mend.
      Have a look through my videos and you'll see plenty of S60 fixes that also apply to the V70.

    done mine today with meyle.
    very easy ...just had to get car jacked up high to get the shocks to drop out.
    the skippy feal has now gone and also i had a mystery rattle on the rear end that has now gone.must have been a faulty knocking shocker.
    best 45 quid ..spent to date.
    thats trade price

    I also need to change the mount as it was poking right up into the boot. It’s the 3 bolts around the shock bolt don’t think I need to remove the spring. Wish me luck.

  • @Johans60

    The bolt at the bottom should be tightent with the height of the car in driving position, so that the rubber bush will not wear out quickly

    Another seriously useful video thank you SiRobb! My 2009 XC90 is wandering on the motorway, and feels really soft at the rear, with significant back end sway when towing the caravan. I've replaced both front Control Arms & Ball Joints (thanks for the ratchet-strap trick, that works!). Also replaced both rear trailing arm bushes where they connect to the chassis. 4-wheel alignment done.. still feels like a jellyfish at the back end on the motorway. I'm lost! The rear suspension is really complex - can you advise what could be the culprit? Many thanks

      I don't know. You can build up jacking height with blocks of wood on the jack saddle or stand the jack on a raised service.
      Never get under any raised vehicle though unless *you* can be sure of *your* safety.

      I just measured the length of the shock and made sure there was enough clearance.

    • @sirobb

      +Richard Mojica Front shocks are straightforward but it's almost impossible (and dangerous) to do them without spring compressors.
      I haven't done a video yet but may do one later in the year.

    I saw one new end link for the sway bar and one old one. Was that due to video editing or did you replace them both at the same time? Excellent instructions by the way. I will be doing my 1999 V70 Wagon this weekend. Cheers!

      One link failed the mot test so needed changing immediately but the other was replaced soon after.
      In my list of videos, there's a review for the link.

    Hey, can you give me a heads up about how to determine if you need new rear mounts? Is there anything to look out for? You make this seem so easy! Thank you!

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  8 років тому +2

      The rear mounts surround the top nut so give them a good prying with a strong screwdriver and look for splits or loose movement.
      Thanks for the comment. 👍

    hello Simon. i have a s80 and my front suspention got pretty low...can you tell me is it the shock absorbers or the coils or both?i'm really confused...

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  7 років тому

      Dan Poclitari The front suspension has several components so you can never know exactly what needs replacing without more detailed investigation but if the car is sitting low, that is certainly suggesting a worn or possibly snapped spring which in turn can be caused by a dead shock absorber allowing too much spring travel.
      If you look at the strut top with the bonnet up, also look to see if the top of the shock absorber is sticking up too far.
      I wouldn't drive a car with that description.

    the next gen volvo s80 (s80 II) has the rear shock standing alone and springs on their own...not the whole shock in spring you got going there
    mine is 2010 volvo s80 T6 R-design AWD ...and at 114000kilomter the rear self leveling shocks leaked out on my parking lot ..both failing at once
    it kind of felt like the rear right spring bouncing abit i was like : ohhh no...somthing is about to happen
    and indeed it did
    im trying to see if i can fit normal shocks to it...hell custom making one sounds alot cheaper
    self leveling ar only available OEM and they are pricey as fuck about 430 dollars for one side
    i have owned this car since new...
    feel free to ask what went wrong and ill send you a list by the kilometer
    these newer volvos are far cry from what the 240s and 740s were
    my dad has a 740gle (after 450 000 kilomtere everything works.. ) and when ever mine brakes he gives me his car to go work until dealership fixes mine...shaaame
    volvo motto : volvo for life..
    more like for mouths

      therein lies the rub...Haynes doesn't make manuals for Volvo's 6-cylinder petrol's in the states...thanks anyway

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  7 років тому

      Michael Alnemy The engine type is unlikely to change many structural repair procedures so if you get a Haynes for Volvo model, most of the torque figures will carry across.
      Check to be sure but I'd be surprised if a S60/V70 strut or shock absorber on a 6 cylinder needed different torque to a 5 cylinder engined version.
      Failing that, you can get Vida software which has everything.
