  • Welp.... it's time for more "Just as Good" this time we are tackling AR magazines from Amend2 Mags. Are they just as good as steel duramags or Pmags? The results surprised me!
    Products I'll make $$ from:
    - Sly Tactical Slings: They are 100% made in the USA and the adjustment is so silky smooth and has ZERO binding... plus the Class 1 nylon will not chafe your sensitive neck. I have them IN STOCK on my website at www.defconcreative.com/produc... ... or you can use code DEFCON at www.slytactical.com for the same pricing but get whatever you want

I bought 12 Amend2 mags last year. I'm a police officer and wanted more ammo for my patrol rifle. I keep my extra rifle mags in various places in my patrol car, mainly in the door pockets for easy access.
After only 3 or 4 weeks of them in my car the Amend2 mags started popping rounds out of them randomly.... Sometimes while I was driving, sometimes just when my car was sitting. I'd come out to go on duty and check them after making sure they were all loaded from the day before and several of the mags had lost rounds. I had 2 issued gen 2 Pmags and an old steel mag from when I was in the Army that had been loaded for about 2 years in my door pockets with no issues.
I contacted Amend2 and they replaced all of the mags.
Again, after only a few weeks, they started losing rounds again. I'd be driving and I could hear the rounds popping out. I even recorded it with my phone.
I had high hopes for those mags, being a veteran owned company and myself being an Army veteran, but I again sent them back and went with Magpul.
I have 10 Pmags loaded and stored in my patrol car and have had no issues with them... There's a reason the military and police agencies go with Magpul.

I'm sure the Amend2 mags are fine sitting on a shelf or in a gun safe/case, but my mags stay in my police car 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They get hot, they get cold and everything between and with the Amend2's failing the way they did, I can't trust them to be with me when TSHTF.

I had this issue with Mission First Tactical (MFT) with loaded mags in an ammo can. The feed lips are too soft in my opinion.
That being said, I just purchased two Amend 2 mod 2 mags and the feed lips feel the same. I no longer use MFT’s and gave some away, but these Amend 2 mags may be returned before I even try them out.
Never had any issues with my Gen 2 or 3 Magpul mags.

The big problem with the A2 mags is if you store loaded the feed lips will spread tremendously to the point it is almost impossible to get the mag in. They were great at first but I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole knowing what I know now.

I used the A2 Mags for duty for about a year. The problem with the A2 Mags wasn't that it wouldn't seat or function; the problem is over time the top of the mag began to slowly separate and rounds would eject in my mag pouch without me knowing. Per policy I loaded up 28 rounds, when downloading the mags I ended up with 25, 26 and a 28 round mag. I noticed the sa.e thing with my P Mags too. I'll be switching to all metal mags for now.

Interesting findings in those tests. The amend 2 mags I have would dump rounds if dropped the shop floor(consistently) and have had issues with both over insertion, and not wanting to stay locked in place. They are super squishy compared to PMags.
Also they don’t work with stripper clips which I find annoying. It’s pretty handy to use stripper clips to top off mags during a match or a class.
The ones I have had have proved themselves pretty crappy.

Never had rounds “pop out” no cycle problems on semi and binary select positions, 3 years on the same good mags! NRA RSO combat courses.

  • @wolfewispr
    @wolfewispr 2 роки тому +3

They are not. i have two of them i bought to try and brand new you can load them up, leave them for a bit and the feed lips separate. then they are stiffer going in the mag well. The two i have will unload themselves just sitting on a shelf or in my go bag if you leave them loaded for 30 minutes. I did contact amend 2 and they'll warranty replace them but i have to pay for shipping to return them.. the shipping is almost as high as the mags themselves so it would be like buying two more if i paid to ship them back.. I need to post a video of the two i have so others can see how horrible they are. i have pmags and aluminum mags they hold up well, but i'm going to start running all aluminum mags, simply because they worked for the military for many many years with no problems. If the springs get weak you can take them apart and stretch the springs, put it back together and they are good as new. no problems with aluminum mags or pmags. I just prefer the aluminum mags these days. They have proven themselves for many years as the military standard. got a few used aluminum mags from a friend who brought them back from vietnam and they still work like new.

I think a better test would be to load all of those mags and let them sit for a couple years and then take them to the range and see how they run. Only time will tell if the polymer mags will deform or not, and still be able to do the job reliably.

So right now as I'm watching your video, I just pulled out to amend 2 mags that have been loaded since 2020, maybe 2019. One of them I dropped on my carpeted basement floor and seven rounds few out of the top so I unloaded the rest, every time I pulled one round up another one would fly out behind it. This issue is caused from the feed lips spreading overtime while being loaded fully, it does not even come close to dropping free anymore even when loaded. I have to yank it out from the mag well.

Easy answer for the Duramag issue is as you e mentioned throughout your video is that you e been running Duramags which most likely after cleaning your magazine, you didn’t reattach the bottom slide plate correctly. I’ve got a ton of SS Duramags and have NEVER had any issues after dropping, stepping or tossing them while fully loaded. I stock up on Duramag SS and Magpul M3’s for all my 556’s and 308’s. I once bought an Amend2 just to try it out and was immediately taken by how cheap and thin the feed lips were, I left it at the range as trash!

I'm not sure why anyone would actually use duramags, they're legitimately not any good. Steel mags are incredibly overrated and mostly come from fudd logic and shit from days past that really aren't needed anymore. Unless it's a 60rnd surefire, there's really no reason to get a steel mag nowadays unless it's just to collect or for clone correct builds. Steel mags are considerably worse in literally every environment compared to polymer mags, and most steel mags can't take the same punishment that polymer mags can, seriously it's been proven time and time again. I only use lancers and pmags, both of which I've never had any issue with (Except 1 pmag) and I legitimately abuse the shit out of my gear. I've completely destroyed rails, completely fucked up barrels, sheared lugs off of bipods, I've literally had companies tell me that they haven't seen damage like what I've done outside of military trials/testing. That said, lancers are great (They also have steel feed lips if you care about that. And I only buy the black ones, the transparent ones are tacky af imo), and pmgas are also great. Not to mention you can also get extensions for both lancers and pmags if you want a few extra rounds. I have literally hundreds of mags, and as far as rifles go I only have 1 bad gen 2 pmag... Which I do keep just for training purposes. But seriously don't buy duramags... They're literally not worth it when pmags and lancers are a thing. Also worth noting; just don't confuse pmags with promags, they're not the same.

Not a great test. No leave them loaded for a month or drop them empty or get them wet or leave them in the sun, just drop them loaded & give an opinion. Didn't even try to shoot with them after dropping. Do they all still shoot? Who knows?? That's a more important test than your opinion. Really seemed like an advertisement hidden in a simple test. I'm not convinced.

This is how i got my hexmags. I bought a 6 pack off gunmagwarehouse to try them out. I ended up liking them. I bought two 6 packs the next time and gave some to my brother in law for his birthday. He liked them. So I bought 12 more. I gave them out to family members with their rifles. And I gave them to my co worker who had just gotten his first AR. Everyone has liked them. Now they're my goto mag. I keep 4 mag triple mag pouches loaded with them. And I've moved my D&H Mags to truck gun duty. I just bought a ten pack of mags last week and I have about 4 in reserve in case I need a gift or to loan out to someone. AT $9.99 each, I figure I could do much worse. I also have PMAGs and some thermold 20 rounders for when I go tot he range. I also have a set of blue duramags for my mom's new rifle. She lives in South West Texas and the rifle is for the ferrel hog problems they have there. Besides, I'd rather she have access to a good rifle and not need it than to be stuck on her porch worrying about her pets in the yard. Borther in law like them since they fed reliably with his full auto. He said he'd had issues with PMags and their followers breaking with full auto. I've never seen them act up with full auto, but my Brother in law knows his stuff and I tend to believe what he says about AR mags.

Amend 2 mags are garbage. They fit tightly into all of my rifles and do not drop freely out of any of them. Garbage mags.
