I think it could speak to the fact that Rhaenyra grew up in a Targaryen house with the proper training and education while Daenerys grew up in exile with the lack of a strong Valyrian influence.
She grew up in exile in Essos where the common tongue was Low Valyrian and each City State probably had it's own dialect. Braavosi, Pentosii, Meerenese. High Valyrian died out with the fall of Valyria the way Latin fell out of favor after the fall of Roman influence. It seems as if Dany was fluent in Low Valyrian and Westerosi common tongue as well.

These are two different attitudes that affect the tone of the word being spoken. Furthermore, Rhaenyra has been literally raised with her culture somewhat intact. When you hear Rhaenyra speak High Valyrian, she is speaking it with the correct accent unlike Daenerys. She even fails to understand some sentences in it which is why Missandei is her scribe/translator. I love them both but please stop with the misinformation. Also there are just differences in speech between individuals, even ones who are from the same place and speak the same language. The actors themselves won’t sound the same speaking English, let alone High Valeryian.
I like both. Daenerys’s Dracarys was filled with rage and power at the idea of a low born slaver talking down to a Targaryen, as well as the idea that she would allow anyone to take her dragons away from her. While Rhaenyra was filled with rage and sadness at the loss of her mother and brother. Both carried weight and purpose, and both represented strong women who were actually able to be somewhat vulnerable but strong at the same time.
Both sound good and we have to remember there is almost 200 years difference so the sound of language changes over time and they are different people not representing the same person. I was suprised when i heard Rhaenyra say it cuz i was half expecting the show to just copy paste Dany over her but glad they didnt.
I agree. Language changes a whole lot between decades let alone a few centuries. I’m also glad that Rhaenyra is different from Dany even in small ways like their accents. Rhaenyra’s ancestral ties are much closer to Valeria than Dany’s, so of course the way she speaks the language will be slightly different in some ways. She was also surrounded by several people with High Valerian as their mother tongue when Dany had maybe 1 or 2 people who spoke it with her as a child.
They both did it amazing in different ways under different circumstances but still really awesome that I still get goosebumps every time! The only word I can speak and remember in these dragon vids😜
That Daenerys scene still give me chills and I actually love how different she sound compare to the HotD Targaryen. Great details to show the difference between a Targaryen Princess in exile and one who grew up surrounded by her people culture. Still my #1 Dracarys moment btw
In the overall story Rhaenyra is technically Daenerys' ancestor. and in her time it was the height of power of the house Targaryen where their power, culture and customs are felt everywhere. So for sure she speaks the language correctly and pronounced it correctly as well. unlike in Daenerys' time where the house Targaryen is extinct. she grew up in exile and no one taught her her family's traditions, customs and language. All she knows about her family and ancestors are what the general public knows as well. she really didnt get to know first had insights and such. So I really appreciate the difference. it doesn't mean that Daenerys' "Dracarys" is ugly and Rhaenyra's correct or vice versa. it kind of shows only how is the house Targaryen during their times.
I think it makes sense and I like the change between Rhaenyra and Danny. On one side it shows the changes in the language over generations and on the other Valyrian is considered a mostly dead language even during Rhaenyras time, by the time Daenerys learned it there was no one to teach her proper Valyrian and her pronounciations are "tainted" by her dominant language, "the common" in the show, aka english.

Daenerys canonically has Tyroshi accent, which makes sense since she was living in Free Cities for her whole life. And since she also stayed in Tyrosh, it makes sense that she adapted their accent. Also, the only person who taught Dany High Valyrian & B*st*rd Valyrian languages was Viserys. But Viserys left King's Landing when he was only 8 and his mother dies shortly after. Which is why he probably didn't have a chance to learn these languages properly, and therefore couldn't teach Dany entirely either. Rhaenyra, on the other hand, grew up with Valyrian people. Her father, her uncle, her mother (Emma's mother is also a Targaryen), her cousins... So it's easier for her to speak with the Valyrian accent. And since she had more sources, she'd easily learn Valyrian languages too.
I love this so much, it was such a small touch but i noticed it instantly. The attention to detail in how a language would evolve, have old/new dialects and be influenced by the languages around them is amazing. Let's not forget how english has evolved just within the past 80 years.

I feel like they added "Dracarys" on the new show only to build a bridge to GOT. In the source material Daenerys comes up with "dracarys" on her own simply because it means "fire". It's not a word that was commonly used by dragonriders. As a matter of fact, the source material also says dragonriders used whips to control the dragons, very much like horses.
Actually yes. The dragon lords used whips and magical horns to bind/command dragons. Dany tried it first but realized she doesn't have too. I gues because the dragons are bound to her by blood magic.
I like Dany's dracarys but you can clearly hear her UK accent in that but rhaenyra's dracarys clearly has the old valyrian touch and I like it more, its really good.
@GJ I can only imagine it as a fan and I have seen other game of thrones characters speak it, who sound more realistic but Dany's UK accent leaks out sometimes. Hope this helps.
@GJ I mean you have to be a next level weirdo to be arguing about "MY VERY OWN" preference of dracarys over the other, Milly's accent makes her sound anicent and valyria is a fantasy ancient language that's why I like it more. Yes she is Aussie but I like her accent's mixture with valyria more than Dany's UK accent, got any problem with that ? As a fan I can imagine the things I want and I shared my opinion about it. It is a simple opinion I shared without the intent of having any sort of debate but here you people are. Go touch some grass. smh
Interesting how original Thrones watchers associate the word with a triumphant feeling, but in HotD the word is spoken in a situation thick with grief.
The subtlety in their accent is so superb. Daenerys always says dracarys with a common tongue accent because in her times High Valyrian was near to being lost. In Rhaenyra and others their dracarys carry a High Valyrian accent because it was still spoken amongst the nobles of House Targaryen.
Rhaneyra is just...so beautiful i don't even know her accent is amazing and she is nails the Valyrian look accent and she is just like her from the book
It doesn't matter if you prefer Daenerys or Raenyra, Misandei's "Dracarys" before its execution is light years away from all the Dracarys we hear in the series.
Everyone talking about how different the actual word sounds (intent/feeling, not pronunciation)…. These are two completely different instances of when it’s being said. They pronounce it differently, of course, but Dany is being sinister and taking an army… Rhae is delivering an order at a funeral. It’s really not comparable in THAT way.
idk why people keep comparing this. dany only used dracarys as a threat, as an attack, as a weapon, as the mad queen she was. Rhaenyra used it during a Targaryen funeral. massive difference. it's just the same word, not the same action.
I feel like, other then the context, the biggest difference between the two is the amount of respect that they give to their dragons. Daenerys it has always felt to me doesn't give her dragons any more respect then you would give to a family pet. You may love the animal, but at the end of the day it's still just an animal in your mind. Rhaenyra it feels like gives Syrax more respect and care. I can't help but liken her treatment more to how the dragons are treated in the Inheritance Cycle. More like self aware beings then animals. And that could, and probably definitely is, a result of her having been raised around the dragons as a Targaryean
WTF? If anything Daenerys has a deeper connection to her dragons than Rhaenyra. I am not hating on Rhaenyra nor am I implying her connection to Syrax is weak. I think she is amazing. But Dany stepped in a pyre to burn those dead eggs to life. That is why she is 'The Mother of Dragons.' Those are her children. The only children she'll ever have. Where on earth have you gotten this conclusion? Please enlighten me Kaitlyn.
@@edgarallanhoe1251 rheanyra and syrax bond is much more powerful than the way you described. The season 1 final with Syrax reacting to rheanyra miscarriage proved their strong connection
1. Milly Alcock holds the title for best sounding dracarys (laena's death wish is close). 2. I love Syrax's reaction here lmaoooo she's like "girl... that your mom... you sure...? ok i guess"
I’m looking forward to comparing them speaking Valyrian in full sentences/conversations so we can break down the differences in their accents, it’s harder to do with just one phrase
Both were good, but the reason behind their action is different. Daenery's use of dracarys was to show power, Rhaenyra, on the other hand was a way of grieving her mother and brothers death. But I can also say that Rhaenyra saying dracarys, was able to show emotionally strong she is for stepping up.
Idk what yall are blabbering about. Daenerys has a Tyroshi Valyrian accent since she grew up around the Free Cities of Essos. That's also why she says "iskos daor" instead of "iksos daor" in her speech. It's a dialect. Rhaenyra grew up in the Red Keep of King's Landing with the Maesters trained in the art of High Valyrian and was taught the alphabets of said language.
Who care how or with what flair of accent it’s said ?? It’s all about the fact that as soon as it’s said .. here comes the Dragon fire. My favorite part is the sound the dragons make just after it’s said and just before they blow fire 🔥 on everyone! That is the best part. Daeny is my Queen and always will be , D&D did her dirty 🤬 So far I’m liking Rhaenrya too. And absolutely Love ❤️ Deamon !!
Good catch! I never really noticed, but the dragons show a definite and consistent expression/change in demeanor upon hearing the command; like they take a moment to process what they’ve heard before summoning the fire. Nice attention to detail by the animators.
I love Dany Targerian ❤️ and Dracarys ❤️ I missed her character so much 💞 nobody can defeat Dany, and Rharnyra dracarys like , Frances says tracarys , don't like it
I like how Rhaenyra talking about "I'm not a male" "I'll never be a son" "I'm a girl" never sounds like, "Ermergerd this world is so oppressive" and instead sounds like all she wants is the love and respect of her father while also wanting to explore and see the world.
Just the characters facing yhe realities of their time period. There can absolutely be a critique of the norms and characters who go against it, and that's the way to do it, not whatever rings of power is doing.
her character in the show is so tragic too. in the books, she's more entitled in the way that she's always had certain rights as a princess and those are being taken away w/out her consent. but in the show, she's probably just trying to follow the song of ice and fire because it's the first time she's felt important to her father.
Rhaenyra’s Dracarys has a more "European" tone, which makes it a bit more "authentic". Not that Daenery's is bad but its like you give a non-English word to an American to pronounce.
Those who are saying Rhaenyra's Valyrian is better accented than Dany's, here is my question, what exactly is a good/correct Valyrian accent? It's not as if it is an actual language and you can compare. And HotD is the show where we are hearing so much Valyrian for the first time. So how can you say something is better if there is nothing to compare it with?
Daenerys sounds like an English speaker trying to sound ancient while Rhaenyra (or Millie) sounds like she’s speaking language of the gods. People only favor Daenerys because they saw her first on GoT. People like what’s familiar.
@@abandonallhope.1040 I'm not saying I like the one or the other. I'm just saying that we can't really decide which one is the correct accent based on the information we have. @@ashishkumarpatra7156 Rhaenyra is speaking a more authentic dialect simply because she was raised by a Valyrian family while Daenerys had to learn her Valyrian elsewhere. We don’t need “data.” We can infer whose accent is more authentic by virtue of how each character grew up.

This is 200 years before so ofcourse she says it with more of the accent. Which I loved 🥰
I don't know about Rhaenyra, but Daenerys's part is the best moment in the whole GOT , it's phenomenal, it's unforgettable 😌 it's my opinion tho))
It's because Dany's dragons were her children
I like Dany's dracarys but you can clearly hear her UK accent in that but rhaenyra's dracarys clearly has the old valyrian touch and I like it more, its really good.
@GJ I can only imagine it as a fan and I have seen other game of thrones characters speak it, who sound more realistic but Dany's UK accent leaks out sometimes.
Hope this helps.
@GJ its almost as if the creator of the language exists and knows how things were supposed to be pronounced
@GJ I mean you have to be a next level weirdo to be arguing about "MY VERY OWN" preference of dracarys over the other,
Milly's accent makes her sound anicent and valyria is a fantasy ancient language that's why I like it more. Yes she is Aussie but I like her accent's mixture with valyria more than Dany's UK accent, got any problem with that ? As a fan I can imagine the things I want and I shared my opinion about it. It is a simple opinion I shared without the intent of having any sort of debate but here you people are. Go touch some grass. smh
I am from Poland and here we would say dracarys with the same accent as Rhaenyra said it.
Wow Daenerys was so beautiful. Why didn't the producers cast someone as beautiful as her?
Sorry for saying it.
Rhaenyra’s accent is way better but that Daenerys scene is way more badass!! Give me goosebumps everytime I see it!
I love how Rhyns dragon sounds sad
Everyone talking about how different the actual word sounds (intent/feeling, not pronunciation)…. These are two completely different instances of when it’s being said. They pronounce it differently, of course, but Dany is being sinister and taking an army… Rhae is delivering an order at a funeral. It’s really not comparable in THAT way.
Rhaenyra's accent is spetacular 🖤❤
I see power in both of them. Also Rhaenyra's context was very different.
idk why people keep comparing this.
dany only used dracarys as a threat, as an attack, as a weapon, as the mad queen she was.
Rhaenyra used it during a Targaryen funeral.
massive difference.
it's just the same word, not the same action.
love Rhaenyra's Valyrian accent
Both are bad ass women persononified by GRRM and HBO.
Milly made her character epic on the second episode.
Rhanenyra is so beautiful
Daeneryas ❤️
I feel like, other then the context, the biggest difference between the two is the amount of respect that they give to their dragons. Daenerys it has always felt to me doesn't give her dragons any more respect then you would give to a family pet. You may love the animal, but at the end of the day it's still just an animal in your mind. Rhaenyra it feels like gives Syrax more respect and care. I can't help but liken her treatment more to how the dragons are treated in the Inheritance Cycle. More like self aware beings then animals. And that could, and probably definitely is, a result of her having been raised around the dragons as a Targaryean
Family pets are children. 😡
Rhaenyra has the native Valerian accent, and it's very beautiful.
The small girl killed it. ❤️👌
I'm so bummed out that there are two actors playing rhaenerya meaning we gonna time jump. i wish we could see her grow up naturally per season
Agreed. I wonder how they will go about the time jump
Two different emotions, two different situations. Love them both.
Rhae speaks pure Old Valyrian
Both are amazing
My favourite house Targaryen #fireandblood #dracarys #housetargaryen
Danny's more like "kill them"
while Rhaenyra's more like "light the stove"
Both are badass af
Dont worry ya. Rhaenyra will be saying this way more as the show goes on. More comparison shots. lol
idk why she stopped rolling her R's in the later seasons, its sounds so good with the accent
I love Dany Targerian ❤️ and Dracarys ❤️ I missed her character so much 💞 nobody can defeat Dany, and Rharnyra dracarys like , Frances says tracarys , don't like it
Rhyanera's is def better!
Drogon: *killed a slaver when was a little boy.
Syrax: *made a tribute to her master’s mother and brother.
@@dihydrogenmonoxide7600 Exactly
her character in the show is so tragic too. in the books, she's more entitled in the way that she's always had certain rights as a princess and those are being taken away w/out her consent. but in the show, she's probably just trying to follow the song of ice and fire because it's the first time she's felt important to her father.
lmao these valyrian language experts in the coments made my day
Rhaenyra's a better actress
DAENERYS: Becomes a queen from 0.
Rhaenyra: DADDY HELP ME
Rheanyra fight till death for the throne same as dany
Her dad died before she took the throne and he only fight to reminds everyone that she is heirs
Rhaenyra's was good but Dany one will always be iconic
I always thought Dracarys was a random word Dany chose while instructing the dragons to breathe fire .
i love the fact that everyone here is expert in a made-up Valyrian language
One scene was in a funeral, other one was in a powerfull punishment scene. How can we compare them ?
Rhaenyra’s Dracarys has a more "European" tone, which makes it a bit more "authentic".
Not that Daenery's is bad but its like you give a non-English word to an American to pronounce.
Emilia Clarke is not American..
@@sythal5985 I am not saying shes American but she had the accent. I mean i wouldnt notice shes British through the series.
they were both perfect in tone for the scene they were in
They both sound great, although I prefer Danny’s, the power in it was amazing and it sounds like she wasn’t trying too hard, it just flowed out.
Gotta love how casual the Targaeryans are about their dragons. Like it's just an everyday thing for them.
They are not targaeryans tho
No data available to compare. Hope you're getting what I'm trying to say. Rhaenyra's accent sounds better to the ears, but we can't decide if it's the correct accent.
I don’t have to be a French to be able to distinguish between a native french speaker or a foreigner who can speak french.
Bro it's obvious, Dany has a common tongue (English) accent, and rhaneyra's is far from English accent,so it must be high valyrian's.
Rhaenyra 😍
