Anyone else feel like the song slowly progresses from a gathering of clouds to a light drizzle and culminating in a thunderstorm at the end? Acoustic guitar in the beginning, light drumming leading to heavy electric guitar and the guy at the end representing a thunderstorm?
I live in Dubai, heard this song on sunday morning, on my headphones, the weather actually changed, clouds filled up the sky and it drizzled. Last night I played the song aloud and this morning I woke up to a dark sky and heavy rainfall! This is the magic of Malhar! Believe it or not! :-) Goosebumps! Goosebumps! Goosebumps!
Isha Priya Singh : I am in Srinagar and listened newly composed music track of Modi and Amit of RSS on August 05’ 2019. I wish that all music lovers, like you, listen this super charged track and enjoy the magic... Really, worth listening snd watching. Come to Srinagar !!!
This was one hell of a rendition. Four of the top Pakistani singers, Pakistani guitar legend Faraz Anwar, several musicians from around the world, and Rohail's vision on top. What can go wrong? :-)
Amazing thing about Pakistan ... we dont have any singing acadmy in our country. few places where u can learnt guitars drums and others....we do at our own n learn from each other. but really had to appreciate the built-in talent of Pakistan.
Tagore translated a lot from hindustani classic raga, So did Nazrul. Tagore wrote a lot on Monsoonal and had to adopt raga miyan ki malhar! Best form of Malhar u may find in Movie "Jalshaghar"-SJ Ray👍
Mesmerizing! Rain has always been a prominent theme in indian music. A source of both of happiness and destruction. These Singers n musicians have done an outstanding job of capturing the ecstatic rapture of seeing the first monsoons. Tansen wud be proud if he saw this. Once again, great job coke studio Pakistan !
By most in the circle he's considered as Asia's # 1 Guitarist... and the grand master of progressive rock in Pakistan... the Faraz Anwar! Thumbs up man!
best part about the sessions from Rohail Hyatt is that he gives such a importance to the bass guitars. you can listen each and every song many times just following the bass guitars..
He indeed has bassist of that calibre and he knows how to use them. For instance, Mannu's bass under his supervision is out of this world, but same Mannu's riffs ( under Strings) is difficult to hear.
This song is great. I was listening to it yesterday night and today Mumbai is facing intense rains. So intense that official holiday was declared today in Mumbai. The song is really effective
Ashish Khandelwal yes the song is a masterpiece, to come up with such an amazing composition, particularly when you have heard classical versions of the same
this song and performance is too awesome! :) The original composition was composed by none other then legendary musical maestro Tansen himself! Thank you for share!
Drizzle Started with Ayesha Omer, Fariha Pervez Made it Rain, Zara scent like Desi Soil and Rustam Sahab with others brought a Thunder Storm. Just Wow, Never heard such a wonderful interpretation of Raaga Malhar and this came to me as a complete surprise because since the time Coke Studio Started this is the first time i have watch a coke studio presentation with out watching the BTS first. What an experience, simply mind blowing.
Psyche1954 Not only the composition is by Tansen himself, but also it was sung by two girls (sisters) to him (on his request) when he was in danger. When those girls sung the original composition, the torrential rain poured in and saved Tansen (according to original myth, see wiki). In this performance also, I see that it is sung by two girls which make me believe that CokeStudio is taking the local legends and folklore into consideration while reproducing these composition. Hats off to them for doing that! And yes, the monsoon in Indian sub-continent can be overwhelming.
Psyche1954 there were plenty of courtesans and singers in the Mughal kingdoms. Perhaps the reason for their decline and eventual downfall was their opulence. Look at the Taj Mahal. That was created in memory of a woman. What were the european courts doing with women in that point of time ? letting them vote, be their own persons, I am sure about that. Think before you start your rants.
Psyche1954 Miyan Malhar uses a different Ni (komal) while the original Malhar, uses shudhdha Ni. The sisters, who were nervous, legend says, sang komal Ni instead of shudhdha ni thereby while the song brought rain, it failed to fully cure Tansen, who enventually died. One of the legends...
I am from India and I absolutely love this song. It's beautiful in all terms. The personification of the rain makes me want to listen to this song again and again. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Everyone is so talented. Well done all around. It is a classic that will endure to the end of time. Thanks Coke for bringing it together. Makes me realize how much everyone is missing by not sharing our cultures. Are all the women in Pakistan so beautiful?
Lovely! from 4.04 onward it just takes off with the thick base voice of (is it fariha?) female vocalist. Fusion doesn't work at times, but here it has worked really well. Love the use of the mutki and the jaltarang as well as of course the Kora. The African gent is so sensitive. Bravo guys! you made great music here.
The culmination of the song with the ever so great and typical Patiala Gharana Taan made famous by Ustad Fateh Ali Khan Sahab. Furthermore, it's even better that Ustad Rustam Fateh Ali gives it the element of the roar of thunderstorm at the end doing great justice to the Patiala "ang" and particularly the taan itself.
Rohail Hayat should take Coke Studio Pakistan's superb collection of instruments players and singers with his composition and arrangement for a world wide tour. This creativity would attract people interested in soul satisfying music from every cultural and language background. Great creativity indeed.
For this season Rohail recorded different artists separately. The man on drums probably couldn't feel what we feel when we listen to the final release.
well i am shocked to see aisha omer sing so good and specially a classic folk wao ... well fareeha was awesome too and so was the last guitar solo by faraz anwar
Greetings from India!! Nice to see Raag Malar fused through the voices of Ayesha and Fariha. But heavy drum beats with high pace during the last few minutes of the song has diluted the beauty of Raaga Malhar from its further enhancement. Congratulations to you. I hope that renditions of our classical raags should inform us the common cultural tradition of Indian sub continent and eliminate intolerance and hatred based on religion and nationality.
:') this is pure love ... mesmerised ... :') can't express what I'm feeling after watching this mesmerising production.. speechless :') Thank You Rohail hyatt :)
Too Good! hats off to Ayesha Omer & Fariha Pervez, Zara Madani & to all the Muscians what a Production!!! Hats off to Coke Studio, Pakistan for this Production!!! Good Music has No BOUNDARIES whatsoever!!!
Rohail hayat is supernatural and spiritual musician. Divinely blessed. How well he understands and blends the true essence of different genres of music. If i have to take 2 names in music from pakistan, they are ustad nusrat fateh ali khan and rohail hyatt sahab
Every time I listen to this song, I hear something I had missed before. Every time I think about this song, I find a peace that I had missed before. This song fills me with hope and an immense yearning to live in the hear and now. This is enough!
i really think this season of coke studio was the peak of coke studio saga. This season was the most splendid coke studio could ever produce. Later the successors gave us some good commercial hits but they, never were able to fill this vacuum. Rohail was a true Mozart in this season.
Updated not just that but also the way these songs were recorded. Not in live performances but in bits and pieces. This kind of experimentation and execution can only be done by a true maestro who Rohail is. Absolutely brilliant.
Hi coke studio. I love you guys for such music. I wish you bring santoor on sets too like rabab... I would love to hear santur on coke studio. Thank you. :)
What a progressive composition. From showers to a heavy thunderstorm of a great guitar shred and then the amazing vocal solo.. That guy was sweating by the end !! Killed it!!
Lately, I have found so many hidden gems on Rohail Hyatt's channel. Music such as that on this channel is one of the biggest connecting forces in the Indian subcontinent.
Is Rohail Hyatt the creator, composer and arranger of bringing together instruments and great players from different parts of the world to match so superbly mostly the sufi and folk music of the region of Pakistan. Creativity at its best. Keep up the great work.
Perfect example of why I love Pakistani coke studio so much ! They make music from their souls! Love from Kerala, India.

abuslty nothing
Ayesha omer
Tino gayikaen has sung the best.
The vocals by Fariha Pervaiz are sublime and the brief apperance by Ustad Rustam is stunning.
Because Fariha is the only trained singer among all 3 women.
Amazing thing about Pakistan ... we dont have any singing acadmy in our country. few places where u can learnt guitars drums and others....we do at our own n learn from each other. but really had to appreciate the built-in talent of Pakistan.
NAPA in Karachi is doing serious work in classical music
Incredibly talented - Gift of God to the Blue Planet
So this again proves that music is the only hope for the world.
Super !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulation Rohail Hyatt.
This song 's tune like Robindranath Tagor tune.
Greeting from Dhaka, Bangladesh......:)
Jhoro jhoro borishe... :)
Yeah rabindranath tagore was most probably influenced by the song and composes jhoro jhoro borishe.
Tagore translated a lot from hindustani classic raga, So did Nazrul. Tagore wrote a lot on Monsoonal and had to adopt raga miyan ki malhar!
Best form of Malhar u may find in Movie "Jalshaghar"-SJ Ray👍

The calm before, the advent, the storm and the contenment after.
All in one beautiful composition. Total love.
Alap with the guitar solo excellent idea.
More a 'taan' than an 'alaap', but technicality aside, it added to the overall beauty of the performance.
Cane across this one and I cannot believe I was unaware this song existed. It's pure bliss to ears.
The whole season 6 is full of masterpieces
