A few tips-the fakers ALWAYS tell you what they know you want to hear and agree with whatever you want them to agree with. There’s also things like love bombing (I.e. flattering you with compliments, gifts and/or praise at literally every turn possible), playing martyr/victim (I.e. ALWAYS blaming everyone else, and never taking any responsibility for their part in it), excessive flirtatiousness, hesitancy to say much of anything real about themselves (ex, a hobby or an interest), outrageous claims like having been court-ordered to move out of state due to abuse, even dropping occasional off-handed comments that they may try to pass off as a joke, the list goes on. Educate yourself and, for your own safety, never stop!

Actually a deeper more profound teaching would have been for the monk to explain to Ravi that there is no such thing as a genuine person as all people are fake on a certain level. What we think of as people are only an illusion. There is life and awareness and consciousness appearing when one is in the presence of a human being but the so called person is merely a jumble of conditioning that forms a personality, a name a story, and a set of memories judgements, opinions, and beliefs. None of those things are what we are at our root. The person itself doesn’t exist in the first place. The teaching in this story is really saying that the monk and Ravi believe themselves to be superior to others as they are good and others are bad. There is still much ego embedded in the minds of both men. To say that one person is good or genuine and others are bad or fake is in itself a trap. It has become a judgement and belief by these two that being a spiritual person elevates them above all else. The real teaching here should be not to concern yourself with the words or actions of others at all but to focus on yourself and ask who or what is bothered by the words or actions of others?

I mean, we all talk to different people in our lives in different ways (or you'd hope so) but I don't think that is inauthentic. We can never pin down what the self is, but sometimes the mask is authentic. That's basically what art is, I think. An authentic mask. It's not the same as manipulating others for your own ends.

Granted we are conditioned to societal mores and values from birth. It takes a lifetime to sort the wheat from the chaff. This is the human condition we all confront. When a contract of some sort is made, a sense of honour is assumed, whether it is an elected leader, or some lowlife trying to get into a woman's pants. Actions are the true gage of intention.

Often times, you don't stumble on someone truly in need. You stumble upon someone who is a skilled manipulator and who is a reaping what they have sown. They are looking for a free-ride, a hand-out. They are free-loaders. "A friend in Need, is a Friend Indeed!" If you start hearing a hard luck story from the get-go, it's time to pull the plug. Direct them to the State who exacts taxes from you for this very thing. It's different when you know someone for years/family/friends and they have fallen on hard times with sickness / illness. By all means help these ones if it's in the power of your hand to do so. If someone starts love bombing you with excessive flattery from the get-go, usually they are setting a trap for your feet.

The problem in society is we are all being feed this idea we have to be at the party, we have to contact everyone constantly, we have to drink and do drugs to fit in. If your friendship with someone is standing in a garage drinking beer than that's one shitty friendship in my opinion. Focus on personal success and achievement. Keep distance at a respectful reach among friends and not try to get to involved with someone elses problems. People suck in 2023 and beyond

Such it doesn't work. Otherwise our world would be a better place, if this wisdom would spread. But it doesn't. There are only a few people interested in that. Most prefer to stay "fake". But nevertheless a true story. Continue going on real - and not stay fake.
