    I am sorry I missed the livestream, this is a great video, very useful! I was a size 16/18 US short-waisted rectangle, and now I am a size 8/10 US short-waisted rectangle. The same fit issues remain only in a smaller size. I found myself settling for less than a "wow" because it was, and is, such a discouraging struggle to find the right style and fit. I am finding success in trying completely different styles I would never have considered when I was a larger size. Sometimes the "wow" is in the styles we least expect! I am 65, retired, and no longer need to worry about what to wear to work, I can dress for myself and not for the office. So liberating!

    Hi Marie- Anne Another excellent video!🤗💕Where to begin... you name it I've bought it ....and regretted it😭 Especially online and sales...and I used to buy cheap and cheerful! However, since starting to watch your channel I've started to buy better and less often. I also found out I'm allergic to polyester, so now I really look at the materials used to make the item...so often there is polyester in clothing ...even jeans😱!! In a way I'm pleased that I have the allergy as it stops me buying rubbish!!🤯😊 Recently I've bought the same cardigan in 3 colours (red navy and purple) I love them 😍😊 As they are different colours I wear them with very different outfits so they look different!

    Hi, Marie-Anne, as a rule I never buy things on impulse. I study my clothes and decide what would be nice to add, then picture this item in my imagination and try to find it in the shop. Sometimes I fail, then I either knit it myself or look for a tailor. Sounds boring, I agree, but I simply love all my pieces of clothing: they went the stages like pregnancy (!) to become mine. Very rarely I buy things just because they “called” me, like a puppy calls for a home!

  • @KimberlyPerrotis
    @KimberlyPerrotis 6 днів тому +2

    Yes, leave the tags on items you’re not sure about; if you can’t return them, it will really increase the resale value. Also, never cut the permanent, sewn-in, brand, size or fabric content/care instruction labels, the garments won’t be re-sellable. I really struggle with this because with my hyper-sensitive skin, labels can be a real torment. My compromise has been to remove the labels on the casual knit dresses I wear around the house. At least I’m comfortable at home, where I spend most of my time, now that I’m retired, and I know I will wear these items a lot and don’t have to worry about reselling them. My other clothes, that I leave the house in, usually only have to be tolerated for a few hours at a time. Resale apps or stores won’t accept items without the original labels. If you’re a larger size and don’t want your husband to see the size labels, don’t worry about it, he knows exactly what size you are already! When thrift shopping, if a size label is missing, it’s almost always an XL garment. Thrift shops haven’t been as particular, but that is changing as they are drowned in worn-out, stained, torn, unusable garments everyday. About 99% of the clothing they receive goes straight into the huge bins out back, then straight to the landfill.

    I do almost all my own alterations (not silk clothes, they are very difficult and require the patience of a saint, which I don’t have). This has really helped me keep wearing some of my too-big clothes after losing 50 lbs. in the last five or ten years. Skirts are relatively easy to do, and after three rounds of putting darts at the waist, I ended up putting a strip of elastic at the back, inside waist, in case I lose more weight. Simple tops can be taken in at the sides and the neckline down-sized by putting darts in the back above the shoulders. Unfortunately, most trousers can’t be downsized enough because of: Flat-felled seams (used in jeans), side pockets or side zippers - in these cases, it’s less expensive to buy a new pair, tailoring is incredibly expensive where I live (simple hems are $60 US and up, for example). The size difference is now too great, from a US 16 to about a 6, to wear much else in those bigger sizes, but it really helped during the transition. I sold most of my larger-sized clothes, which were mostly top-quality, to help toward the purchase of a new wardrobe, which I just completed. Each season, beginning last autumn, I thoughtfully bought what I needed for each season as they came around. Now I have a beautiful, functional wardrobe and need nothing new at all. I do allow myself to buy that occasional Wow or, as I say, “In Love with It”, item. Fortunately, shoes and accessories could be kept, everything else had to go.🙂

    For many years I avoided colour on my top half or on dresses, thinking it would draw too much attention, particularly when I turned 60, unable to colour my hair any longer due to increasing allergies to dye. A woman in her 60's with grey hair should blend in not stand out! Then last year I went through every single item in my wardrobe as recommended by you Marie-Anne, trying everything on in different combinations and realised my black, grey, navy, beige and brown tops gave me no joy whatsoever, draining the life out of my face. And I decided from there on to only wear and buy colourful things, particularly on top, red, pinks, purple, greens, bright blue, teals etc. It has transformed how I feel and look, and now when I am shopping for clothes not only does it have to work with what I already have, but it has to be an uplifting colour. I have forbade myself from buying anything neutral or dark. Winters in the UK are grey and drab at the best of times, and dark clothes adds to the gloom. I am currently looking for a winter coat, red is my top choice, but open to any colour that isn't black, navy, grey or brown! May take awhile as I am only 5'2" and need petite sizing! But thank you for great advice as usual. 😃

    Marie-Anne, merci very interesting video. I love this community and especially those ladies who vulnerably tell their stories of addiction, it can't be easy, so special love ❤ and hugs 🤗 to them all.and hope things get better for them. I regret some purchases, but I have learned during these years to be more careful. Sometimes I see something beautiful in shops but then I think do I really wear it and do I have any occasions to wear that certain garment, so I have learnt to walk away. I browse internet to look the new trends and try to get some ideas what I can sew. I have in my head a vision of a snake pattern dress with just two colors, perhaps white and black or white and navy, but I haven't found a nice fabric yet, those fabrics have too many colors and making a dress of them would not be WOW to me, so I'm still looking perhaps one day I find what I want and it will then be WOW. I have couple of bright colored pieces and I were my orange shirt at Halloween time, might look like a pumpkin, but I think that can be the purpose of it. Your beautiful shirt reminds me of my shirt which my mother sew for me when I was teenager end of 60'. It was light blue with same kind of frills in front. I loved that shirt and wore it very often. Purple suits you really well. What a great video and love your humor.

    Yesterday I went shopping for a rain jacket (which was ironically why I missed this livestream😁!). The first place I tried didn't have their new stock in, so I looked in a few shops nearby. I found nothing in the shops nearby, so I went out to the main (long!) shopping street. I walked almost all the way along, going into several shops on the way and keeping your "wow ou non" firmly in mind, until I finally found something that was exactly right. So, despite being rained on and getting sore feet, it was well worth the effort and as always, Marie-Anne, thank you for your brilliant guidance!

    I love wearing a white or off-white top, I always feel great in them, so I have many near-duplicates and wear them all regularly. I need different fabrics, weights and sleeve lengths for different weather, different necklines and details depending on the other pieces in each outfit. My most-worn item is an off-white, long-sleeved silk shirt, which I can wear in all but high summer, so I have several styles. It’s helpful to have enough of these neutral basics, so yes, that’s me: “another white top”. I did just reduce the number of white (and other color) t-shirts I had because I realized I’m just not wearing them as much as I used to. I really prefer the collared, Polo-style knit tops that are widely available now to a plain, round-neck tee. The collar and V-neck are so much more flattering to my body and face shape, and they look a little more polished than, but are just as comfortable as, a standard t-shirt. I also love a square-neck knit top under blazers, they give a clean, straight line. Plus, now that I’m in my 60s I wear fewer short-sleeved tops in general. Not because my arms look wrinkled (they do, very), but because they get cold a lot. I can always push up the sleeves of a long-sleeved one if I do get warm, need to wash my hands, cook, etc.

I have benefited by this many times, when you are just window shopping, spot something that is "tailor-made" for you and go and get it. I've been trying to be a more sensible buyer lately, thanks to you. ❤

    There is SO much competition for stylish, reasonably priced clothes where we live. If we see something, it may be gone within 10 mins. so we'd better buy it now. This may result in over-buying, but we mainly shop at stores with easy return policies.

    Hello Marie-Anne. One of the difficulties I find when shopping on-line is when shopping for a particular shade of colour. For example French Navy. So many navies are too dark for me. Have you any tips when shopping for colour?

    • @MarieAnneLecoeur
      @MarieAnneLecoeur  11 днів тому +1

      It is so difficult to assess colour online Maureen you have to wait until you get it to do the French Chic Colour Test 😘

    Always a great show comme d’habitude❤ If One day you could do a tutorial on lingerie. Our bodies and breast change through age and I’ve seen so many women whose breasts for instance are not held properly. Or underwear marks etc…It’s an underestimated part of fashion but so important so that clothes present better. Anyway just an idea… and also what do you consider are the best brands out there depending on age. Si vous avez le temps un jour car je sais que vous travaillez déjà beaucoup 🙏❤

    QUESTION - Do you think one should match the color purse with the color shoes?

    • @elizabethpetrie2732
      @elizabethpetrie2732 11 днів тому +2

      I’ve heard both yes and no. Yes: it can give cohesion to an outfit, especially when applying the “no-more-than-three-colours” rule. No: it looks dated and too matchy-matchy. So there’s no one good answer. Doesn’t make it easy, does it? 😕

    • @pearlbrandwein4731
      @pearlbrandwein4731 11 днів тому +2

      @BrendaKahn1: yes, you can match shoes & bags. If you match shoes & belts, then the bag could be lighter or darker. If you wear jeans with red pumps, find a red or red/navy belt, then the bag should be blue. If you wear animal print shoes, then the bag can be black, brown or caramel colored. Pick a bag & shoe color out of the outfit. If you wear gold or silver shoes, then match the bag. It's a more striking look. Remember there are variations of blue, red, grey, beige, brown, lilac/violet; don't be afraid of color -- it will just enhance your eyes, skin tone, figure. Don't forget scarves, belts, jewelry, jackets/sweaters/blazers/raincoats.

    If it's not a wow, it's a no, but sometimes our wow is the price tag and we can't say no! Unfortunately, of course, even at a great discount, the piece may not be worn because it simply doesn't fit in with our wardrobe, so ultimately, it was a waste of money even on sale! 😢
