If you speak german, in the shot right after the crash, they sound like excited children. That Herzog had to drag Kinsky down, when the boat drifted into the current again, because Kinsky was so wrapped up in recounting the scene that they just shot is just the cherry on the top.
What Cracked neglected to mention is that Klaus Kinski was also a crazy egomaniac. IIRC during the filming of Aguirre some of the native extras offered to kill Kinski for Hertzog, after witnessing one of the actor's famous fights with the director.
Um...Herzog was helping tend to the wounds when he took a drink. Everyone here is making him out to be some kind of horrible sociopath. The people involved in the most dangerous aspects of this film were comprehending adults who knew what they were signing up for, but I guess none of that matters to people who are treating this as somehow any different from any of the other "crazy" eccentric projects people undertake to get into the Guinness Book of World Records where they are rightly praised for their ambition and commitment. But it's much easier to be a dolt who has no respect for the power of cinema, the consent of the actors and crew involved, and is content to label anyone who defends Herzog as a "fanboy" or "insane".
@jen8933 As a matter of fact, in My Best Fiend, Herzog recounted being offered by the Indians a chance for them to kill Kinski. A shocking yet humorous point of this anecdote is that Herzog actually thought it through but eventually said no... deciding completing Fitzcarraldo came before killing Kinski.
@xblackoutx767 Umm, excuse me... they also have a massive repertoire of jokes based on other appendages. Also, their writing is from time to time... brilliant.
footage like this makes me think herzog is complete BS'ing about kinski's nature. I think it's also wrong to talk sh-t about someone after they're dead. I do not think he is nearly as difficult as herzog claims just to sell tickets.
It's funny among those in this clip, Klaus is actually trying to make sense of things to Herzog. Herzog and Kinski is what would happen if Sociopath meets Psychopath.
It's hard to imagine a more terrifying scenario than being injured in the jungle with Klaus Kinski as your nurse.
or not leaving until Werner says your finished
🤣💀👹👺🤡💩
He was a ww2 vet so he definately knows how to field dress a wound and that could be life or death in the jungle
@@snafu700 "a ww2 vet" is putting it very diplomatically lol

Gotta respect people who are willing to go that far for their art.

Moments of madness captured for the world to see
The music during the rapids of the Pongo scene is "chi mi frena in tal momento" from Gaetano Donizetti's opera lucia di lammermoor.
Thank you! For some reason it's not on the official soundtrack album.
Gotta love the opera playing.
12 years ago... how is life there ??
You DON'T want to be here now. Believe me !

Longest dry season ever = the gods trying to end this idiocy and spare everyone a ton of stress
prolonged

One of the ACTORS applies field medicine while the DIRECTOR hangs around giving unwanted advice before drinking the anitseptic.
"Herzog is the one taking a drink, looking unimpressed"

Well said. And there are many directors who go further than Herzog to get films made. Like you say, those involved were all adults...
Herzog is clinically sane!
Cracked!
@jen8933 Eso ocurrió en Aguirre. Y no fue un nativo amazónico, fue Justo Gonzales, un extra que hacía de soldado español.
@xblackoutx767 thankyou for noticing. and i still stick to my guns one year later with the opinion that this footage is mad; as is Kinsky.

i first saw this in a documentary about Kinski.

That's a lot of trouble for a film that nobody saw. Herzog must be "cracked".
It's held in high regard by anyone who considers themselves a veteran of cinema. Why don't you fuck off back to your shit taste in movies.
