Jaggery is a sugar which helps to stave off frost. 2% molasses in a cement mixer turns a stiff mortar into soup, so use even less per mix like half a trowel is better. I met a cement truck driver who told me that if he broke down he would mix a 2lb bag of sugar into his load, this would retard the mix and slow it's drying time. The mortar we saw in the film seems far too wet, this can weaken your mix and is not as good, adding fibres increases a mortars tensile strength.
@@jjegan9705, afternoon, I was using the normal ox or cow belly hair, you can't use human hair, it's too shiny, you should also avoid using polypropylene fibres coz they are too smooth and they are shite for the environment. I actually now use sisal or jute/hessian fibres becoz they retain the moisture and they're tougher than using hair. In modern cement work the polypropylene fibres definitely increase the tensile strength just as it does with lime. As to the quantity of fibres, in some old internal building work I've come across as much as about 70% in render mixes but working for various conservation firms they said that if when you've mixed in the hair you dig in the tip of a gauging trowel you should be able to count about 40 hairs, but this is bollox becoz I use about double that. As for the stiff mix don't use so much water and if you use lime putty I don't add any water usually. For a perfect mix, 2 & 1/2 sharp sand, 1/2 builders sand or stone dust and then pick up a trowel load, turn it upside down and........it'll stay there and won't slide off, plus that mix, with fibres will be perfect for ceiling or soffit lath & plaster work because the 1/2 of fines makes it lovely & sticky. Happy spreading, JJ.
Please i want proportion of lime with other partical mix like juggary etc I want to build my home with lime mortar and it is suitable for stone mesonary
Old is gold beautiful warking
