      By the way, you should check out an animal called the 'Tarantula Hawk Wasp'. It's a nasty enough animal that the developers from Obsidian decided it was a good idea to put a mutated version of it called a Cazador into Fallout: New Vegas.

    Had a Goliath Bird Catcher as a pet named Gossamer. I fed him baby mice. Definitely a big boy but not dangerous as far as spiders go.
    Had a screen covering the top of his aquarium and whenever he was hungry he would climb up to the screen and take one of his fangs and click it off the metal screen.

    We had a writing spider set up by our porch light last year. We called him "Fred." He was kind enough to dismantle his web in the mornings, so we wouldn't walk into it, and make it again each evening. He caught a LOT of bugs! I'm not fond of spiders - they creep me out - but if they're being helpful and not into jump-scaring you, I can cohabitate. It is fun to watch them make the webs, though.

    Joro spiders and golden orb weaver spiders are very similar! They’re basically harmless but they’re also annoying as hell because they can build their huge webs in a single night and people end up walking face first into a web that wasn’t their when they went to bed! As for the giant huntsman spiders we have those in the southeast of America too! They’re a little smaller than their Australian counterparts but not by much! The messed up part about huntsman spiders is that they don’t crawl! They RUN!!!!! And they’re damned fast too!!!!!

    I was on vacation in the Galápagos Islands. You wouldn’t believe the size of the spiders that appeared at night on the walls of the place we were staying. I stripped my bed. Shook out all the bedding, remade the bed, tucking in any loose ends tightly under the mattress leaving a small gap at the head of the bed. I slid in to bed through that small gap and covered my head into my cocoon. Sleepless night. They were “gone” in the morning. But no, they were not gone. Apparently in the daytime they preferred the ceiling of the shower in the bathroom. Yes, the trip to the Galapagos was wonderful and I reluctantly grew to accept the spiders as part of the total experience. Give me a marine iguana or a Sally lightfoot crab any day.

      I've been looking at going there myself but I think I would take the National Graphic ship instead of staying in a hotel on the galapogos islands. :-) (National Geographic has a lot of US Flag ships, but the one that goes to Galapogos is Ecuadorian flag; I think that's the law, that any ship going to the islands has to be registered in Ecuador, for both economic reasons, and so they can trust the crew to want to take care of the islands. :-) )

    • @manxkin
      @manxkin 3 місяці тому +4

      @@neutrino78x We were only in the “hotel” a couple nights. The rest of the trip was spent on a very small, intimate vessel that held maybe 12 people plus a small crew. We went to various islands and had a very memorable trip. After that we flew to Peru to explore Machu Picchu.

    I keep jumping spiders as pets ❤ I love all spiders. They are so intelligent and not aggressive. When I was around 5 years old, my favorite book was Charlotte's Web, about a spider. I was so happy when I found a huge black and red spider in our basement. I accidentally knocked her off her web, picked her up and put her back. I would catch insects to throw in her web. A few weeks later, my mother found me playing with her. Mom's face turned white lol. I was letting a black widow crawl all over me 😂 We ended up relocating her to the backyard.

    In a place called Fallon, Nevada, here in the US, there is a spawning season for baby spiders that shoot a web up into the air. It acts like a little parachute, and you end up with thoughsands of little spiders flying through the air to find nests of their own away from their mother's.
    Also, it's a great movie idea for you to react to called Eight Legged Freaks.

    The last story is quite funny. I think this gentleman is very attentive now when he goes to the bathroom. But if you want to show something really unpleasant, watch something about solpuga. Few people know how big they can be. Since the Internet is not very common where they are found. But I fully admit that this monster can come to you by plane. It tolerates both heat and cold well.

    The joro spider is also in FL and has been for all of my life. I was born in 1986 and i remember shooting them with bb guns as a kid, they get that big. We also have those here in NC. They make their webs in-between the power lines and catch everything from insects to small birds. Wait, nvm. I'm thinking of the golden orb weaver. Looks almost identical.

    • @bradkirchhoff5703

  • @AussiePom
    @AussiePom Місяць тому

    Aussie here we LOVE our Huntsman Spiders. They don't make a web and they keep all the little other critters numbers in check. They can jump and when you see one it can be a "OH SH*T" moment but only for a moment. They're harmless to humans even if they bite us. Another favourite is our giant stick insect which can reach over 1ft in length. They too are harmless and I found one in a barrow of plant cuttings I was about to shred. So I put it back into the garden as it would be a real crime to shred something so harmless. Our Redback and Funnel Web are the nasty ones. It would be terrible to be a male Funnel Web spider for after giving the female s3x she turns round and bites him killing him for he'll be food for her offspring unless he gets away real quick to live another day. When you kill a Redback the red stripe on it's back fades to black as it dies. Their bite is painful to adults but can kill a child. Funnel Web venom will kill adults and children. But very few people die from them and we have anti venom for them too but it needs to be administered quickly.
