I’m actually glad with that being scrapped but it would’ve been nice if Iori actually temporarily retired in 99 at least in story even if he was playable cause he doesn’t really have much do anything to do there.
One day I hope they make an entire anime series on KOF from start to finish. Kyo is a baddass and non-cliche character that's charismatic. Plus, there are hundreds of characters in KOF, each with layered stories, which for a fighting game is super impressive.
My favorite is Hanoko's story. She just wants to be a sumo but traditions and her stature keeps people from taking her serious. I would love to see her arc get a satisfying ending, she's got such heart and unique design for what amounted to a side character

The real issue is that it would be such a ambitious, large scale, long term project that no one is ever going to greenlight it.

Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't. Iori still has never had a better theme than his 96 one.

Esaka Forever is an incredible grand finale to Kyo's destined battle. The boy becomes a man and saves the world from the apocalypse.

It would be a bit tough to make a series, since so much happened but time doesn't move and no one really ages.
