HSH is just a cut above. So glad we now get MORE. Definitely informed my battling decisions. Alignment is only everything when your squad / the opponent's team are all about fast moves.
You definitely need to make this in series. After viewing many youtubers on this game, you have the best diction while delivering these concepts flawlessley. I look forward to see these in series.
Too bad the game is such a piece of shit right now that you can't count on normal game mechanics to work properly. Soooo many 1 turn lags turning wins into losses. Niantic should be embarrassed
No joke I literally tried that exact gator talon match-up last night and I lost with gator and a shield because it frame dropped twice giving them 2 whole incinerates 😂
@@Pokebattleleagueya that is the worst when it comes those 5 turn fast moves. That's a lot of energy when your opponent gets a free move plus its alot of damage per incinerate even when its resisted. Lag is also bad with 1 turn fast moves.. Dragonbreath etc...
Honestly, game state overall (especially on android) is so rough. I'm with you there. I've heard stuff is being done behind the scenes to improve it, but it's a painful wait in the interim. When the game works, its truly amazing. But thats a big if
Great Video, I've had a battle where I never had alignment but leveraged energy and shields to win it and it was a part of a 9-1 run to legend a year ago or so.
hey its been a long time henry, i quit playing the game 6 months ago when i got 11th for the worlds qualifiers and couldnt get a full expense trip to hawai for worlds. i started playing again this month but i was just grinding raids because all those new mons at pvpoke didnt seem familiar (no way they nerfed counter to the doom). I just stumbled upon this vid and seeing the "og" meta w licki lant vigo glig just made me so excited lol. i was counting moves subconciously and screaming "SWITCH" when they got the 2 move overfarm lol. now i wanna play again thanks for this dude.
Love this style of video, going beyond just showing cool teams and actually breaking down the game itself with thoughtful analysis and proof to support. Keep up the quality work man, best PoGo PvP content out there!
Wow, this video strikes the perfect balance between summarising high-level concepts and giving enough detail to demonstrate/explain them. This should be required homework/material for all PVP trainers! Well done HSH, fantastic video.
May I have a suggestion? It will be fun to *replay* the key moments just like the sport games. Additionally it will help entry level players like me to understand how those winning players used the principles HSH talked about.
7:48 best example i can give is Shadow typholosion vs mantine/pelliper matchup where you can smack them with thunderpunches (btw old times when wing attack was 4ept
Arguably the game added even more skill with the reduced switch timer, managing that is pretty important especially if someone manages to desync the switch clocks. Battles feel so much more exciting when you have manage energy, shields, switch, and a 50s timer, I'm glad they changed that- you aren't always a sitting duck when you're in a bad matchup, there usually is play to it. Now if only they could fix the lag..
Was waiting for this video since a looong time, with my current skills I could only reach to ace, but still wanted to reach higher..... thanks for this video
Talonflame and Greninja are both pokemon where I’m learning about energy advantage. One thing that has helped me win more with those pokemon is recognizing when I can stay in just a little bit to get some energy before I leave a bad match up because I know later those pokemon can sweep teams if they have an energy lead.
Bro is dropping PoGo PvP truth bombs like a it was a Tuesday and I'm struggling managing to keep the 1st Ace in PvP :D . Good stuff. Just philosophically 5/5 stuff.
I guess my big thing with PoGo GBL tournaments is the fact that there’s nothing for Ultra or Master League. If those metas eventually get some recognition then I’ll take the GBL stuff more seriously
There is so much that goes into battling and getting very good at pvp. I think the biggest things for me is memory, fast thinking, and team reading. The second two I think are harder because of low elo. I don't learn as much as I would like because of how much cups cycle. I wish there would be, like, open great league the entire season. Because I need many battles to try and learn matchups, get used to counts, etc. When the cups cycle every week or two, I might forget whether or not I win a matchup in the ones or not. Too many cups and me needing to switch teams around to new metas means I don't get everything down in my mind like I would want. Do people need to study this stuff like it were a university class to get really good, or can you really pick all of this up just by playing? Fast thinking is just very hard for me. I have a hard time reacting to a switch with a proper response and I'll give my opponent too much of an energy head start. I have to sit there and actively think about move counts and contemplate what I might want to do when I don't have time to really do that. The switch-in reaction is hard because of low elo meta. Maybe not the best example, but if you're playing open great league and you see a mono fire type switch in, what do you think? Probably Typhlosion? Well, maybe at a higher elo where people are more likely to actually use meta pokemon it's almost guaranteed to be Typhlosion. Low elo, well, you just switched in your water type into a thunder fang Arcanine. Again, maybe not a good example, but the point is there. You can't really just react, your opponent could be switching in anything. Team reading, same deal. I've had too many times where I might feel like I need to play for a shield advantage only to end up in an endgame where I lose the 2-1 or the 2-0 shields. Like, I just don't have that feel down for when I need to play for what advantage. I don't think I'm clueless to it, but having no idea about team predicting means I can make a wrong choice. Then there's the low elo problem where the teams you face might be horrifically be put together, weird, or outdated meta. I feel like I see Medicham all the time in open great league still. Idk, lot of complaining, but there's so much to know and learn about this game. It's amazing to me how people get to legend, haha. Maybe more videos like this will give me more insight and I don't have to resort to paying for coaching, lol. Been playing since season 8 and have only started hitting ace rank since the debut of Annihilape, mostly because of ML and just brute force winning with maxed out meta pokemon that even low ace rank players may not be able to stand up to as they might be free to play people. End of rant, I've gone on long enough.
I would add pokemon advantage as 1 of the advantages too, if the opponent has 2 shields and I 0, and the have switch and I don't and they have more energy than me, sometimes I'm still chilling cause I have basically all 3 months, full health and they have 1, or scenarios like that. It all depends on playstyle and what your goal is
1 - unlimited time for grinding stardust, perfect IV + XL pokemon 2 - almost unlimited financial resources to buy all the safari tickets etc to gain edge with limited availability pokemon 3 - actual difference in timing, calculating and "skill" I'd weigh them maybe 40/40/20, so if you got both time and money, you'll most likely end up reaching the legend rank more often than not.
For some leagues (like masters, I'm inclined to agree). Part of what I enjoy about open Great League is that so many of the good pokemon don't need xls. I often don't have access to optimal ivs, I just try and build the best that I have, and work with that. I've seen some battlers make it very far with some fairly rough ivs, so it's definitely possible!
COUNTING PLAIN AND SIMPLE ITS VERY GODDAMN SIMPLE ALSO THE NUMBER #1 most important thing DO NOT WATCH OR LISTEN TO POKEAK AKA POKEJOKE THERE IS NO ALGORITHM !!!
Most programs have algorithms, just not ones specifically targeting him XD There's 100% a matchmaking algorithm, it just doesn't involve Poke AK in the programming. Somebody burn down that dude's tin foil hat.
I think I’d be quite decent if it weren’t for the fact that everyone gets DRE against me and I literally never get DRE. My opponents are able to do 1 poison sting and throw their move without taking damage from my mudslap, even though the mudslap should technically KO. But the vice versa never happens, I am always KO’d when doing the same.
First time you get to expert, you realize getting to legend isn’t gonna happen by luck. I’ve become legend 3 times a few seasons back. Tried this year, I literally was 4 points away then I tanked and cups changed. I gave up. But the main difference if you want to become better. Count. Your. Opponents. Fast. Moves. That’s the start
Dude I lagged literally 4 games in a damn row I can't even tap my damn screen while my opponent having a damn field day have 2 charged moves loaded and already knocked out one of my pokemon before I can even freaking do anything. When I'm mysteriously winning out of nowhere it will lag so all I can tap is the back out button or refresh the game and I lose a battle for having to refresh the damn game. My elo was at 2179 now I'm back at 1800 cause of it and it's absolutely b.s
Any lectures on screen freeze , moves not registration even you have aba advantage on their team and still losses cause it didn't let you throw any move , btw i use i pad 😢?
I'll never understand why people belive luck will make you climb any ladder. Of course you wil and loose some game for luck: team comp, random lag, random missclick, etc. But when we talk about pro players, they play SEVERAL game, an incredible amount. And for any1 that know anything about statics, know that the bigger the number, the bigger representation of it. If you play 10 games, luck may make you loose 10 of it. But dont forget your opponents are on the same situation as you, so, i you play 1000 games, the more will yo approach to 50% luck for both.
what about health advantage? xD even up shield and energy if you dont have enough health you can just lose. I often get too greedy save shields or energy just to lose because my mons took too much damage. I think this only happens to people like that cant read the rival team, or forget what was their lead pokemon and their energy xD
You get two shields each battle. Commonly battlers spend one on a mon, then the 2nd shield on a different mon, but you have the option to spend both on the same mon. "Flipping Switch" involves starting the battle with a disadvantageous matchup (TFlame vs gator), switching out, and winning the secondary matchup with whatever you switched to against whatever the opponent swapped to.
In the 2-shield means: a situation where both your and your opponent use both shields on your pokemon that are on the field Flip switch means: winning a mid game matchup so you get to decide how to align your remaining pokemon (i.e. in the first battle, memi's malamar defeats azu, so he gets to put his cresselia onto the toxapex instead of his azumarill)
I've been watching and learning from you for a long time and love your vids. You should do a vid about the theory that the algorithm stacks bad leads against you if you're winning or change your team.
Awesome! Sounds like you're on a great track then 💪 I want to try and make more instructional videos to help players up their game, will aim to cover a wide range of skill among battlers
so if you learn all the types , all the moves, all the counts , catch all the rank ones , put effort in making some advantage the game might become enjoyable :DDDDDD sounds fun and worth it :D oh btw pray for no lag and bugs as well cuz they might get in your way of enjoyment :D
It can seem overwhelming, I get that. I honestly just took it one mon at a time for learning counts, and overtime I ended up having a pretty extensive count knowledge As for ivs, they can help in a few games, but overall, just building the best you have will work out! I don't have great ivs on most of my mons, I build what I can find
Pretty sure there’s an algorithm that takes a look at my team and finds an opponent that mon for mon hard counters my team. People at the top ranks are paid by Niantic and get favorable match ups so they can say the game is skill based when it’s really not.
It doesn't actually get easier higher. Elo teams are way more predictable, but the players are better and at the lower Elo, players are worse. But they run random teams and you just get hard countered. I'm close to veteran and I started playing Pokémon GO 9 months ago. You can do it.
@@Pokebattleleagueoh I know the struggle. I’ve hit Legends a few times. I don’t mean any of the things said in the main comment. I was just joking around
Idk usually when you get to higher elos it's Always the same team usually people are running drapion shadow or dunsparce shadow marowak garlarain moltress qwilfish shadow ferilgator talonflame. Pangoro. Shadow jump fluff Azumarill. Anilhape. Goodra and also ampharos. Serperior. Toxapex. Malamar. Typloshion .
dont let certain people watch, they will still blame algorithm anyway. like dude what do you want? no algorithm and all random matching? That's horrible. If you really want that, get good and be higher elo so there is not enough people to run a good algorithm so you are matched with whomever. Oh I forgot you lack the skills.. oh sorry you lack "favorable algorithm"
Elo needs to be completely reworked. If you lose one point for losing to someone with the same elo as you, you should gain three for winning. Or they need to completely do away with elo and have rankings based on total wins. For example, you hit legend after 300 wins, let’s say. The current system de-incentivizes players and scares off beginners. Additionally, players need to be given the ability to ban one mon so they won’t get matched up against certain teams. So if a lot of players personally banned drapion, those basic b*tch drapion players would never get matched up against anyone and be forced to use something else.
"professional" pokemon go PvP players? 😂💀 Guys need to get real jobs. Not hating on content creators, to be clear. But if you think youre professional at a game thats constantly broken, ya need to grow up.

“In the two shield” and “flip switch” are two terms I don’t really know
You get two shields each battle.
In the 2-shield means: a situation where both your and your opponent use both shields on your pokemon that are on the field
Flip switch means: winning a mid game matchup so you get to decide how to align your remaining pokemon (i.e. in the first battle, memi's malamar defeats azu, so he gets to put his cresselia onto the toxapex instead of his azumarill)
Thanks everyone! Great video.
