My husband and I own a low voltage Sub-Contractor business for the past 40 years. Yes, I definitely remember those first “new” TV’s that the back stuck out at least 4 feet! What a nightmare to place and to lift to move. We have been trying to educate our clients for years on exactly your topic today. If there is a bigger screen, the husband wants it, even if it completely consumes the room. I that case we try the idea of a screen that it hidden above and can drop down into place. The wife has her beautiful room 90% of the time and the husband climbs into his recliner with the cup holder (that one is the designers problem 😂) and is happy. We install plenty of those articulated wall mounts. The problem isn’t the mount, it’s the lazy person (husband) who won’t put in the effort to put it back when the program is finished. You are absolutely correct with all of the ideas that work and don’t. The problem really comes down to the client gets tired of putting the door covers, what ever their design is, back into place. That’s why I agree the Frame TV is the way to go unless you want a full movie creep room.
I think the problem for me is that most people don’t buy a frame TV because of the cost and a lot of these suggestions would be more expensive. So just spring for the really beautiful frame TV! LOL I painted the wall behind our TV black as per your advice. And it transformed the space! You’re the best, Valentina!!
The Frame TV is the best “art” tv, but it’s picture quality to price ratio is not very good. If you aren’t particular about your viewing experience and are more concerned about the look of the TV while it’s off, then the Frame is the TV for you. I would buy the Frame in a second if the picture quality was better

@@nataliemarshall7158 the other thing to take into consideration is that any flat screen TV will have sub optimal speakers so if you want quality sound, you’ll need a sound bar or external speakers which defeats the purpose of disguising your tv as a piece of art. You can’t exactly hide the speakers. The other thing of note is that the signal cable for the tv also carries power so it can’t be hidden in the wall unless run through conduit. They do have an aftermarket wire that is rated to be run naked in a wall, but it’s close to $200 and is almost impossible to find for sale anywhere. I’m not sure that they even make it anymore
There is no such thing as a TV that is too big - only rooms that are too small. I admit, I'm a single guy. I DESIGNED the living room of my new custom home around the 85-100" TV that is going in it. A TV should never, EVER be over a fireplace. Unless the fireplace is super low, the TV will be too high, and the heat from a fireplace is the worst thing you can do. The Samsung Frame is awesome, but they are REALLY expensive, and sadly, REALLY unreliable and buggy. I'm still considering one because I do love the look.
Here's the thing if I didn't watch you on my TV, I wouldn't watch you🙄 I just don't get the hate on the TV. I love all of the ways you've showed it. I still keep my TV in my living room inside of my old farmhouse cabinet, not getting rid of mine anytime soon. And let's be honest not everyone can afford the Samsung frame TV'S. The general public loves their Tv's it's the designer's that don't love them, nor do they like ceiling fans. I live in Kentucky. My TV and ceiling fan is here to stay.😂🙋♀️
I was a little confused when I saw the second photo in the softer style decor, the photo with the ladder on the right. That TV console is a soft white/cream with black hardware. I do agree it competes with the color and style of the wall though. Unless you are talking about style only, I didn't think the TV looked too out of place color wise. It ties into the black framing on the console. For apartment dwellers with a small living space who don't have the luxury of owning a home and painting their walls, there's not a lot of options to work with.That aside, I do enjoy your videos and decorating style.
I love my TV easel. Got it from RH years ago and guests always comment on it. I’ve even gotten offers to buy it. Works in the most awkward spaces. It’s definitely a forever piece.
Is this really the case in the US (the target audience of this video, I presume) - ? Broadcasting in my country ceased 5 years ago, but many like yours truly quit watching TV when broadband internet became affordable, that is, 15-20 years ago. The shops still sell flat-panel TVs (sorry, no trinitrons anymore😥) but these, I presume, are for gaming or direct video subscriptions.
The challenge with almost any of these is the same as an armoire in that you have to open and close it each time or it doesn’t fix anything. Granted a lot of them look nicer than most tv armoires but not really solving any.
I needed this because I am in the process of trying to find a place for my TV that sits in a corner and I hate it I don't want to mount it over the fireplace so the idea of putting it on either side of the fireplace was a great idea for me thanks for all of the tips
Can we stop normalizing the TV over the fireplace. 90% the TV is way too high, not ergonomic, heat from the fireplace may void the warranty, not to mention it ruins aesthetic of the fireplace. I wish builders would stop building homes thus way.
I still don't understand the whole tv thing. Tv is probably what I spend hours looking at. I don't really care if it's the focal point of the room. I love my tv, sorry.

We have two large t.v.'s, and they're not even plugged in. It was a bad decision buying them knowing we'd rarely use it. Even our friends and family laugh about it.

My tv is on one of these arms above the fireplace. For several reasons. One, there is simply no where else to put it unless it's in front of the window, and I hate that look and my living room already doesn't get enough light. Two, it's on the arm so that I can get to the back when necessary. If I need to hook up a new component, I need to the back of the tv. I cannot lift my tv off the wall, so for me, it's a practicality issue.
I just found your channel and loving the advice! I struggle with getting my husband to understand why we cannot put a 70 in tv into a 71 inch opening and why the cords that are visible drive me insane! Not to mention the grey 🤮 ikea cabinets that surround said tv. I guess for now I will just watch your videos and dream of a beautiful living room in the future.😢
I totally agree with you. Currently out tv is on a cabinet/credenza and by fluke it passes the scale test 😅 but I have often thought about wall mounting it and have watched a few UA-cam tutorials on how to do it and surprisingly it doesn’t look too hard to do. So now my problem is that I would have to commit to that being the only place the tv could live forever more 😂
Two things, getting an electrician to fish them into the wall, or get cable wraps to keep them together. You can also use velcro or those wire cord ties you get in packaging.

We have a gorgeous 10 foot stone fireplace alcove with a 6ft arch opening. The previous owners of our house put a TV in it! It looked ridiculous. We have since put a gas stove in it for cozy Alaskan nights. Our only TV is in a large bedroom that we have designated as a media room.

@@Tgrabman the sound on the Frame, like 90% of flat screens, isn’t very good. The picture quality isn’t anything to write home about either to be honest. The picture quality to cost ratio is not very good when compared to OLED and QLED TVs that are on the market. If you are more concerned with how your TV looks when you aren’t watching it than when you are, the Frame is the TV for you. If you care more about your viewing experience when watching TV or movies, then I wouldn’t buy one. I’d much prefer for my TV to look like framed art when it’s off than an actual TV, but if I’m investing my precious time in watching a movie or show, I want the picture and sound quality to be better than decent. I’ve learned to accept that the TV is just part of the room and just decorate around it. Hiding the wire to the one connect in the wall isn’t recommended unless you use conduit because it carries power. They make a special in wall rated version of the wire, but it costs around $200 and is RARELY in stock. And when I say rarely, I mean never lol.
Great tips! The easel idea is a big no for me....it draws way too much attention to it and cheesy idea like barn doors...easels are for art not TVs. I love the built in shelving with sliding doors!!
I have a spare bedroom that I use as a den. This is where I keep the only tv in the house. It's on a dresser where I keep my dvds, game controllers, and blankets.
If I had my own place I'd either have a hidden screen that I'd lower when using and a projector, or mount the TV flush with the wall and have a panel own over it with an actual art piece on it.
Oh. So you don’t actually have to deal with the realities of your situation. It’s different when you get your own place. Things like budget and available time starts to become a factor. Not saying that what you want is impossible. But it’s not very practical. Installing those things are not as easy as you are thinking. And forget it if you are renting!
I never understood the TV over the fireplace thing. Why??? I mean seriously. Why? Before that was possible...you found a place to put your TV...right? Anyone lucky enough to have a fireplace (especially one as beautiful as Jack and Valentina's) should be a focal point and when a fire is going, it should be a source of relaxation and comfort. And heat... Which is the next point 👉 Heat + an expensive TV don't mix. And as said - it's way too high to enjoy. It should be more eye level. Other than those reasons, it just looks tacky. Oh and one more thing - when I see TV's above a fireplace, my first thought is -a mantle needs greenery and candles at Christmas!🌲 😁 Again, like Valentina does! THAT should be the focal point. I think of a main living room like an old fashioned parlor where you have guests you are interacting with; whereas a TV is better in another room more private where you hang out for that purpose.

My new neighbours moved in and I can see into the livingroom from my dining area really well (obviously not trying to spy its just in my face so Ive noticed lol) and they hung an absolutely massive TV on the wall as high to the ceiling as possible with nothing under it and wires all over. Since my husband passed away, I don't watch very often, and I hate to have the TV as focal point in the room. Hence I have hidden it in an old cabinet, where I've modified the doors into sliding doors. Here in Germany TVs over fireplaces are not common, though. Most people here have a TV console or cabinet.
Yes Drew’s tv does fit perfectly in his home for him. V did not say that it doesn’t. What she did say was it didn’t work for her!!! And my interpretation of it was that she was reiterating that she feels projection screens are dated not his cabinet or his room.
I have a 40 inches TV and next i put the transparent Kartell Bourgie table lamp both put on 80 inches TV furniture. Is it aesthetically nice or the lamp overlapping the Tv? TV and lamp have almost the same height. But i think the lamp is discreet because it is transparent. What are you thinking of?
No mistakes. Just preferences and what each person can afford. Personally, I see no point in hiding my TV, or 'blending' it with my decor. It's a TV. No cares if they can tell its a TV or not. I find it hilarious that some designers have their knickers in twist over TVs. Most of us do not live in magazine covers. Nope, no she did not. She did not mention Drew or his channel. I would bet that she didn’t read the photo credits of many of the photos in that article. And going by the rest of the video I believe she was saying that it’s the projection screens that she (and I!) feels is dated. The other thing is that if Drew gave permission for his picture to be used in that article, he is a very smart young man and so he would know that there are going to be people who don’t like what he has done And he has the emotional intelligence to not take it to heart. I am a longtime subscriber of his and yes he is gifted at thinking outside of the box and of curating the most eclectic pieces. Is there anything in his home that I would replicate in mine? No! Does that mean I don’t like him and enjoy watching his channel? Again no! I watch his channel because I enjoy watching his channel. He is a delightful young man. Does the fact that he has almost 2 million subscribers mean that his style must be THE style? Again NO! The exact same principle applies to V’s channel. Well actually there are quite a few things she has done in her home that I would do if I were able. But by no means does that mean I would do everything she has done. Again I watch her because I enjoy watching her and because she is teaching me, just as Drew does, to look at things from a different perspective. To open my mind and broaden my pallet so to speak. Regardless if Drew has 2 followers or 22 million followers, had she called out that, that picture was of Drew’s home from the Lone Fox channel and that it is the most dated thing she has ever seen, that would have been her prerogative, and a tad rude to say the least but still her opinion and her prerogative But she is too kind hearted and too classy to even think that way. How ever as per your own prerogative you have chosen to make an assumption and then call her out on your assumption and proceed to laugh at her over your assumption. That in my opinion means that you have revealed yourself to have no kindness and no class.
Drew’s whole esthetic is vintage. Vintage is by definition, dated. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. But if you are going for a contemporary look, you’re not styling things to look vintage. Lone Fox is not a modern, contemporary designer. Valentina’s design esthetic is not vintage. Two different styles.
I manage to live with an iPhone7 And an early Sony HDTV mounted above my fireplace at a usable height for 20 odd years. It’s not smart but it’s fine. So is my old phone. Replacing either of these won’t break the bank, but they might break my spirit! So I stay. Amen. 🪁

I have an art tv above my fireplace in the bathroom. The guy who installed it said it wouldn't be an issue. Now I'm kind of worried.

as a singleton, I got rid of my tv and now just watch everything on my laptop or phone...it's perfect.

If I had my t.v. on an easel, I could just imagine it crashing to the floor, it just seems like a bad idea to me.
Love to whatch TV is relaxing. Now that we are able to also watch UA-cam, Web, and so much more in our TVs I'm hooked.

If I had my own place I'd either have a hidden screen that I'd lower when using and a projector, or mount the TV flush with the wall and have a panel own over it with an actual art piece on it.
Oh. So you don’t actually have to deal with the realities of your situation. It’s different when you get your own place. Things like budget and available time starts to become a factor. Not saying that what you want is impossible. But it’s not very practical. Installing those things are not as easy as you are thinking. And forget it if you are renting!

I never understood the TV over the fireplace thing. Why??? I mean seriously. Why? Before that was possible...you found a place to put your TV...right? Anyone lucky enough to have a fireplace (especially one as beautiful as Jack and Valentina's) should be a focal point and when a fire is going, it should be a source of relaxation and comfort. And heat...
Which is the next point 👉 Heat + an expensive TV don't mix. And as said - it's way too high to enjoy. It should be more eye level. Other than those reasons, it just looks tacky. Oh and one more thing - when I see TV's above a fireplace, my first thought is -a mantle needs greenery and candles at Christmas!🌲 😁 Again, like Valentina does! THAT should be the focal point. I think of a main living room like an old fashioned parlor where you have guests you are interacting with; whereas a TV is better in another room more private where you hang out for that purpose.

My new neighbours moved in and I can see into the livingroom from my dining area really well (obviously not trying to spy its just in my face so Ive noticed lol) and they hung an absolutely massive TV on the wall as high to the ceiling as possible with nothing under it and wires all over. Not only does it look awkward but their poor necks! Sometimes I watch these videos and Im like who does that.. but I've been proven wrong haha.
I'm thinking about hanging a tapestry to cover mine that can get rolled up like roman shade. Haven't quite decided yet. Still looking for the right material and pattern.

I just purchased the LG stand by me so i didn’t have to purchase TVs for every room. I wheel it around and share it between 3 different rooms. Plus it’s super cute on its stand.
Anti TV🤔🤔 Most people have a TV so why not share how to best incorporate the TV into home design. That is why some designers (not all) go for perfect design versus reality. I am happy for all though designers who just read or do puzzles everyday in their perfect homes. Wait… no puzzles you might have to leave it out overnight in order to finish it the next day. 🤣

I don't like to watch TV. Since my husband passed away, I don't watch very often, and I hate to have the TV as focal point in the room. Hence I have hidden it in an old cabinet, where I've modified the doors into sliding doors. Here in Germany TVs over fireplaces are not common, though. Most people here have a TV console or cabinet.
Yes Drew’s tv does fit perfectly in his home for him. V did not say that it doesn’t. What she did say was it didn’t work for her!!! And my interpretation of it was that she was reiterating that she feels projection screens are dated not his cabinet or his room.

I have a 40 inches TV and next i put the transparent Kartell Bourgie table lamp both put on 80 inches TV furniture. Is it aesthetically nice or the lamp overlapping the Tv? TV and lamp have almost the same height. But i think the lamp is discreet because it is transparent. What are you thinking of?
No mistakes. Just preferences and what each person can afford. Personally, I see no point in hiding my TV, or 'blending' it with my decor. It's a TV. No cares if they can tell its a TV or not. I find it hilarious that some designers have their knickers in twist over TVs. Most of us do not live in magazine covers. More of us need to stop listening/following to these ridiculous trends and designers.

Nope, no she did not.
She did not mention Drew or his channel.
I would bet that she didn’t read the photo credits of many of the photos in that article. And going by the rest of the video I believe she was saying that it’s the projection screens that she (and I!) feels is dated.
The other thing is that if Drew gave permission for his picture to be used in that article, he is a very smart young man and so he would know that there are going to be people who don’t like what he has done And he has the emotional intelligence to not take it to heart.
I am a longtime subscriber of his and yes he is gifted at thinking outside of the box and of curating the most eclectic pieces. Is there anything in his home that I would replicate in mine? No! Does that mean I don’t like him and enjoy watching his channel? Again no! I watch his channel because I enjoy watching his channel. He is a delightful young man.

The exact same principle applies to V’s channel. Well actually there are quite a few things she has done in her home that I would do if I were able. But by no means does that mean I would do everything she has done.
Again I watch her because I enjoy watching her and because she is teaching me, just as Drew does, to look at things from a different perspective. To open my mind and broaden my pallet so to speak.
Regardless if Drew has 2 followers or 22 million followers, had she called out that, that picture was of Drew’s home from the Lone Fox channel and that it is the most dated thing she has ever seen, that would have been her prerogative, and a tad rude to say the least but still her opinion and her prerogative But she is too kind hearted and too classy to even think that way.
How ever as per your own prerogative you have chosen to make an assumption and then call her out on your assumption and proceed to laugh at her over your assumption.
That in my opinion means that you have revealed yourself to have no kindness and no class.
Drew’s whole esthetic is vintage. Vintage is by definition, dated. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. But if you are going for a contemporary look, you’re not styling things to look vintage. Lone Fox is not a modern, contemporary designer. Valentina’s design esthetic is not vintage. Two different styles.
I manage to live with an iPhone7 And an early Sony HDTV mounted above my fireplace at a usable height for 20 odd years. It’s not smart but it’s fine. So is my old phone. Replacing either of these won’t break the bank, but they might break my spirit! So I stay. Amen. 🪁
