My husband was an NFL kicker and I hate having to listen to this "you have one job!" BS, as if almost anybody can do it at the professional level. Here is the complete way a field goal works:
    1) Decide you want to be one
    2) Do it in Junior High, HS, and D1 college. It's all but impossible to get onto a squad without college. You might not even get a scholarship to be there.
    3) Prove yourself if you play D1 and be extremely consistent and get noticed by a NFL scout.
    4) Sign
    5) During the season, practice and practice for 6 days a week
    6) A lot of your teammates are going to be ok, but deal with the few who don't think you belong.
    7) During the game, when things look like you might be needed, practice on the side and get warmed up
    a) put aside the pressure of the game
    b) forget about how dispensable you are if you mess up to often
    8) get on the field and hopefully don't have to rush if the clock is going
    9) Take a quick moment to judge the weather if it isn't clear
    10) Work in perfect unison with your snapper and holder, like you've practiced for 6 days
    11) Get the kick off. As mentioned there's 3000 pounds of defense who's sole mission in life at that moment is to stop you, and you're outnumbered by 2
    12) All the while, ignore the fans and just focus
That isn't all inclusive but you get the idea. You did focus on a big thing that I just mentioned...you're short 2 men on the line. The players who can do this at the professional level just don't fall out of the sky! A lot of them can be great but fold under the pressure at the NFL level.
PS, to the people who say "why don't you just have one kicker to do both jobs.." Well first of all pretend you do and he gets hurt...the whole team is screwed. Also, punting is, to some degree, a different set of skills. You want range, but it's more important to put the ball up, get hang time, then to kick it far. Also you aren't aiming for a target but are trying to put the ball down in a specific area on the field.
    Still though, a great video!
