this works on if the defender on the block goes out to the corner. Most 2-3 zones are taught that the ball side guard goes out to the corner. if this happens the ball side elbow should be open for a shot
I ran this towards the end of our season with good success. At the high school girls level, the ball side guard typically gets caught up paying attention to the safety valve and you end up getting the corner or lay-up shot nearly every time. I had my girl cutting to the corner yell for the ball as a decoy to try and get the defenders attention.
This play won't work against good zone defense. A good zone defense suppose to have the 2 high defender shift closer to the ball which is very close to the cutter is at. But for some reason the 2 high defender was guarding all the way at the half court.
First off in a 2-3 your two guys are not back at the elbow! you move one up in the middle of the lane and the other goes two to three feet outside the lane. That person goes with the shooter. The person in the middle of the lane cuts off the second cutter. Too easy to defend! Teams run that play my team shuts it down immediately.
It's effective for my team at the varsity level 🤷♂️ We defend inbounds like you do too. Flooding the strong side works well, other than you are vulnerable at the opposite elbow and if you don't have good length at forward, that backside corner is open too. My adjustment for when teams flood the strong side like us is to run the same action playside and run your shooter from the top to backside corner and pin in with the player everyone is worried about coming over the top and play inside of.
Can comfirm this is effective. Have ran it three years now. Surprised to find it on here!

you can also have that safety start at the FT line, cut in front of the top defender and then up to his safety spot, this ensures his attention.
