I LOVE what you said at the end!!! “Get a Playmaker in the high post and someone in the dunker spot and PLAY BASKETBALL!” Players aren’t robots 🤖 , give them a framework to play from and let them figure it out.
One of the best things I’ve learned early in my coaching career is a mix of set plays as well as freelance sets. Run plays if the offense has gotten stagnant or you need to stop a run, but let the boys set up in a set and hoop if things are already working. Against a 2-3 I have a simple set with my best mid range shooter and playmaker at the ft line and my guys work it around the perimeter until they can get it to him, once he gets it both corners cut and the wings replace corner. A good shot happens every single time because they can let the game come to them.
A basic overload and a high IQ 4 in the high post destroys most 2-3 zones. Setting up the perimeter shooters and providing opportunities for offensive rebounding (defensive rebounding is the Achilles heel of any zone defense) is all you need. Great video!
Keep posting bro, you underrated asf. I really learned a lot, especially for us Filipinos who use 2-3 zone all the time, now I know how to break zone all the time
I appreciate it! Will be posting a lot once the year starts. Didn’t realize there was a lot of zone defense where you’re at. Good information to know. Thanks for supporting the channel.
@@TheFilmRoom1zone defense is the only thing ran in the philippine pickup and amateur scene 😆 same reason i’m here! this is a good video to watch and learn from
Best way to best a zone is also screening the top of the zone from the wings, allowing the perimeter players to slash and put pressure on the defense. Keep up the good work my guy.
Remember you slashing , even when not getting the pass or making s bucket. That simply you being s threat slashing thru makes the defense have to follow or cover. I was a slasher and sometimes a hard backdoorcut that catches a defender off . Will leave your teammate wide open behind you. When it's depressing and taking u out of the game count those maneuvers as assists . Had u not made urself a threat every possession you wouldn't have teammates as open. The slasher also gets the love back when a shooter on ur team is torching them. They will jump to get there faster, and if u time your slash right the defense opens a wonderful gap up for you. And you can get those looks your wanting and best at.
Let me give you a tip and word of advice from a former slasher to a slasher. Make sure you study the science behind all the great shooters, preferably the ones with a low set point like curry, Kyrie, Kemba and a few others. There is a reason it seems effortless for them and they have mastered their pocket and release. When the ball feels like it moving in all in one motion and feels easy with good control you're almost there. 1K shots a day makes a world of a difference trust me, you don't want to limit yourself to just a slasher. Once you open up the door to shooting your slashing becomes 1000x times easier and the game literally slows down for you. You'll see holes in the defense and you wont worry about the man in front of you, you'll be thinking about the help defense and how you can manipulate them. The zone is the easiest defense to beat especially when you are sticking to the principles of how to beat one (1# getting the ball to the middle and skip passes, isolating one defender to cause E2 situations, and setting screens on the right man and cutting and flashing to open areas). When you add all the knowledge with you being able to shoot imagine what the defense now has to do. They have to open up their Zone to respect your shooting which gives you a driving lane. shooting makes your game so much easier. master it!
2-3 is so easy to break down. I play on the high post every time I see a team play this formation. It's either an open shot in the key, drive, or dump off to the baseline.
Bro, it is a great video and I subscribed you 👍 it would be great if you can make all the scenarios and ways to destroy 23zone. For example, high post, high-low, swing and overload, screen on wing, A pass from top to low so on
@@TheFilmRoom1 The context is that in a pick up especially in a small hood you played with any kind level of player, they do a lot of random stuff thats why understanding easy basket and concept book is way helping for increasing iq to play
It's interesting to see how bad NBA teams play offensively against zone. The increased pace harms the attack's IQ when you need to move the ball more. NCAA players also leave for the NBA earlier and earlier and do not fully develop the collective aspect of the game.
Another good read to make in a situation when one defender has to guard 2 (like at min 3:05) can be to pass to the wing (at the same side) if that defender closes the high-post (leaving open the other pass), right? Or am I missing something? Great video by the way!
Nope, you’re absolutely right. Once you get any situation (zone or man) where one defender gets caught trying to guard 2, you just have to throw it to the guy he doesn’t commit to. And if he tries to play between both, I always suggest hitting the guy closest to the rim because he’s out leveraged. Thanks for commenting!
when doing this notice how the low post guy is always open easy way to get a bucket because the defending team is has the their attention on the perimeter
You kill zone with shooters, 1-3-1 corners and wings. 2-1-2 you kill it on wings and on the top of the arc. 1-2-2 you kill it with a center on the high post and cuts
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. There seems to be a lot of interest in zone offense right now & I’m about to release a video for 2-3 Zone Set plays to supplement this one. I have plans to do 1-3-1 Zone next, but can get one done for 3-2 as well. Give me a couple weeks! Thank you
32 defense. Have a slasher working the shit out of the baseline leaves the other back guy stuck on an island, when slasher do their thing. Your either gonna get a nice look at the basket off the backdoor pass or slash. Or get the top wings to sag down leaving your guards space to drive and dine. Or quick ball reversal to beat the closeouts and get good looks . The baseline slasher should be able to rebound and look for quick put backs. Any motion that gets the defense to over extend their coverage leaves openings. Just gotta work to be able to alwayea see the angles
Thanks for the question. A 4 out 1 in look is a good option against a 2-3 zone. If you struggle to get catches at the high post because the top 2 guards are always clogging it up, there’s 2 things I would say. 1. Your guards should be able to get open looks to shoot it at the top of the key or the wings. They also might be playing too far from the 3pt line. Often times the guards play so far back that they’re not a threat to shoot - so the defenders sag off and clog the high post. 2. The thing I would tell you to try is don’t hangout at the high post area. Sometimes people just work elbow to elbow, or stand at the ft line waiting for a pass & it’s easy to guard that. Work to the short corners, maybe even pop to the top of the key or even the corners. Once that high post isn’t occupied, the top two defenders tend to loosen up and then you’ll have opportunities to flash in there and get a catch. Hopefully one of those two things will help you!
@@TheFilmRoom1 No, I do not follow any teams in college basketball. I play in europe and 2-1-2 is used a lot. Maybe soms european team also plays 2-1-2.

Completely agree.
Dunker spot isn’t great has it the 2-3 unless you have someone with a lot of size and athleticism. It’s more practice to have someone run the baseline
