- What makes the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with Blue Drive Different? Well the Sonata Hybrid takes a big step up for the 2013 model year with a revised drivetrain that can cruise to speeds in excess of 75 MPH on pure electricity alone. The Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine with a full parellel hybrid system that combines to produce 199 horsepower. Unlike most hybrids that rely on CVT transmissions, the Sonata uses a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy ratings are 36 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway.
The 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid competes most closely with the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Ford Fusion Hybrid. Its big, quiet, comfortable, and efficient. The gauges are not as advanced as though found in the Ford Fusion Hybrid for example. The displays can be changed and even switched from the center stack to the speedo area. The Sonata Hybrid features start/spot mode to save even more fuel when stopped at a light. The well appointed interior is packed with technology. The stereo system on the Limited model is top notch featuring Infinity speakers and a sub woofer. Advanced aerodynamics are parts of the Sonata Hybrids success as the drag coefficient is a low 0.25. Active aero shutters and low rolling resistance tires eek out a few more MPG's.
If you are in the market for a roomy, fuel efficient sedan then the 2013 Hyundai Sonata is a must drive.

Just got an 09 Camry Hybrid and I love it.
But this is by far the sleekest hybrid I've seen yet. The 6 speed automatic is the selling point for me.

Took one out for a test drive about two weeks ago! LOVED IT!! needed more space in the back, excellent gas mileage, sleek style, back up camera, and a moonroof! I had to say this car was very classy :)

Took one for a test drive today. Nice car that is quiet and rides like a gas powered car. The only issue I had with it is that the battery (both for the hybrid power and the normal battery) are obstructions in the trunk that take up almost half the space leaving room for maybe only one set of golf clubs. Hyundai needs to put the hybrid battery under the floor of the trunk even if you need to raise the floor a bit. They also need to put the standard battery in the engine compartment somehow to make this more like the gas powered Sonata.
I have a 2013 , same but no moon roof. I have 106k miles in 9 years. I come off the brakes all the time. And just cruise at high speeds in EV. Great car! BTW I have changed oil religiously and proper maintenance. Nothing major in 9 years. I change the cabin and engine air filters myself. I changed out light bulbs yesterday. And will be changing the spark plugs 🔌 today. Oh I forgot, I haven't changed the brakes yet.
