    I bought the larger 9-10" DA from Walmart. Just under $30. Used the Turtle Wax compound and polish as well, had a Lexus with severe hazing and swirl marks. The DA is... okay. I'd say the results I got, which were outstanding, are more of a testament to the Turtle Wax compound/polish than the DA. But I agree, for DIY and under $40, the results were night-and day, brought the luster and shine back to the paint.

    If money was super tight, would you use this to polish your car to get it looking better?

    • @J0uwMoeder
      @J0uwMoeder Рік тому

      For sure. Did it by hand when I was broke, this is a much better alternative!
      Great test.
      By the way, since the cheap compound/polish seemed to do a good job, what are your thought on using those with a proper machine in a professional setting?

    You had me at $3000 gloss meter!! this is a fun real world type video. I'd be interested in how many panels the WM product would do before failure.......but at that price point ONE CAR makes it reasonable. Good stuff Scott.......

    I REALLY appreciate seeing this video since the Walmart setup is about what I could afford...and did buy. So you've given me the faith that I'm not wasting my time. The car is a 2006 that probably has never had paint correction, although the clear coat is still completely intact.

  • @greganson3627

    Interesting comparison....I suspect the person spending 20 dollars on the walmart orbital isn't going to have the years of technique you have perfected and would probably oversaturate the MF bonnet and wouldn't be accomplishing these results with it though. I'd say this is more a showcase of how experience, even with inferior tools, and get acceptable results.

    • @ScottHD
      @ScottHD  Рік тому +8

      Fair point indeed. Also proving it IS possible. It did take quite a bit more time just due to the lack of power and low speed.

    • @Guynhistruck
      @Guynhistruck Рік тому

      I'd agree: but that just makes it feel that much more like one of those videos where they give a musician and entry level instrument, or an artist cheap crayons from the grocery store and tell them to make something out of it, and it always comes out great because their years of experience matter that much more than the equipment they're using. Just goes to show you that you don't have to have expensive stuff, or a dedicated facility with fancy pressure washers and air compressor setups and lighting to do a professional level job on your car. You just need to know what you're doing and understand the process well enough to acclimate yourself to the tools that you have.
      I'd say it's even more encouraging to those who don't necessarily have the budget for most of the things that UA-camrs tend to cover on a regular basis. This kind of tears down the barrier of entry to the point where anyone can see themselves doing this kind of work if they put the time and effort into it.

    Great vid! I have a walmart polisher. Mine has variable speed and is a random orbital. I don’t have a lot of buffing experience but I plan on attempting this on my Corvette today 😅. I have Megs ultimate compound and the Turlte wax compound in the garage right now. I’m leaning towards the turtle wax or would you go Ultimate?

    Great review. I used that same polisher for years on my personal cars. I can’t complain, for $20+ bucks.
    The pads that come with it are the negative part, cheap and don’t last.
    2+ years ago, I did upgrade to a Griot’s polisher. Much Better pads and way easy to control is the big plus.
    BTW, I still use the cheap one for projects around the house. It’s a workhorse.

When I took the polisher off my vehicle, the polish felt dry and didn't just wipe off with a microfiber cloth like I saw in your video. Is that the correct result, or did I mess something up? bit.ly/3ZPz8VU for the gloss meter. They likely do not have any fillers in them, but I did IPA wipe both sides of the hood before showing the final results, and again before I applied the sonax at the end. I don't think I filmed the first IPA wipe.

    Yeah, I’ve watched videos in the past, but I don’t know this one just kind of caught me by surprise because I’m looking at the car in the hood you chose to do your test and the hood didn’t look bad at all. I didn’t see swirls I didn’t see scratches. so I would say get a black hood with a lot of scratching a lot of marring and a lot of swirls do the test again because this was a waste of a 15 minute video in my opinion, and I didn’t prove anything oh yeah and please do something about the audio in your videos. I mean you’ve been doing these videos for at least over 10 years and you still don’t got the right audio in the video could be better to man come on 2024 we can do better. ✌🏼 out 🐶
