French police use violent tactics to intercept migrants in English Channel

In the port of Dunkirk, France, on October 9, 2023, a migrant filmed French maritime police attempting to destabilize their boat which was also holding around 30 other migrants. The police officers were deliberately creating waves to intercept the boat.
The video, filmed on the migrant's phone, is rare because it shows an interception at sea, a practice contrary to French law enforcement's official policy. French police are strictly forbidden to intervene when small boats are already at sea.
After several months of investigation, however, Le Monde and its partners from Lighthouse Reports, the Observer and Der Spiegel, documented multiple instances where aggressive tactics were used by French policy from July 2023 to prevent migrants from crossing the English Channel.
