    Moves like the tomahawk require your opponent to leave an opening for it to work, but the question mark kick is designed to create the opening for itself. Your opponent's own reaction to the initial move is what leaves them vulnerable to the actual strike. Brutal and so very effective.

    • @lawrenceworrell591

      In my opinion, it should be illegal. It could devastate your opponent and hurt them permanently. Its just a sport right? So then lets be good sports about it. Just sayin...

      @@luism.5999 That logic would fundamentally reject MMA, Boxing and most disciplines of Martial Arts from the realm of sport altogether. Not necessarily a bad thing, but massively outside the realm of what is reasonably possible in the immediate future.

      @@luism.5999 in the case of the tomahawk elbow, at least in the ufc, it is banned, sort of. it depends on the angle of the strike. it happened in the Hamill vs Jones fight. Jones was in Hamill's guard throwing elbows and he threw 2 or three tomahawk elbows and got DQ'ed because he was throwing them straight up and down.

    I can not even begin to express the level of admiration I have for the fighters who have the clarity of thinking and professionalism to see that they've won the fight and refuse to do any more damage to their helpless opponents. It's a lot to expect from somebody when the adrenaline is pumping at 100 and you're in a fight for your life. It usually happens when they've secured the KO unplanned. At the same time, when you're fighting and your muscles are working faster than your eyes, you'll likely not realise they're knocked out immediately. There's a ton of factors to it. Imagine you knock your opponent to the ground hard, the ref doesn't call it, but you've already let up. You could've secured the win, but now they get back up and knock you out instead.

    • @tazimusmaximus
      @tazimusmaximus 3 дні тому

      I understand your point. But lots of these fighters are poor, or trying to make it big. You don't stumble a guy and think,"Meh, the ref will prolly stop this fight" you hit him, and when you see him stumble, you think,"I better knock him the fuck out before he gets back up, cuz the ref ain't gonna stop this"

    As someone who has been practicing Taekwondo since the 80's, I can tell you that what is called the "Question Mark Kick" and the "Brazilian Kick" in this video are techniques that have been in the style for hundreds of years. Taekwondo has dozens of multi strike and fake into strike kicks. The "Sickle Kick" is called the twist kick (in English) and is another common technique, used to slip around front kick blocking. The Axe Kick (and related crescent kick) are both a standard part of Taekwondo. The "Tornado Kick" is one of over a dozen different jumping kicks in Taekwondo. Many other martial arts and MMA borrow its kicks, though rarely acknowledge doing so.

    The "rowling thunder variation" at 5:24 is actually a capoeira strike called "meia lua de compasso".

      @ne0ns0wl46 Рік тому

      That was also my first thought, but nope, it's actually a Spinning Hook Kick.
      He just executed it perfectly while dodging the kick.
      It looks very similar to a meia lua de compasso.

    Nice compilation, I appreciate it, new sub. Sickle kick? Never heard that before, but whatever. In Karate we refer to this kick as an "inside-out kick", both in Shotokan and in Tang Soo Do. Doesn't truly matter though, it works just as well. As Shakespeare says, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Looking forward to a part two.

    The spinning elbow shown in the intro (the 2nd set of fighters) was so strange. The guy seemed so hesitant when he started his attack, but then spun at full speed, and returned to slow motion with his follow up strikes. I was thinking that he was either just very lucky, or very, very smart to set up that attack. Regardless, it’s so much fun to watch!👍🏻
