Shout out Chase for reacting to different music styles! And shout out to viewers who can refrain from being rude, just sit back and appreciate that music is music, even if it’s not their cup of tea. If we all listened to the same stuff over and over again it would be a boring ass world. If you don’t like a certain band or style of music, the door is right over there, and you definitely don’t have to announce your departure. Be cool, be kind....it’s always a good look. 😊✌️❤️
Exactly! There’s been songs and bands I didn’t care for.. didn’t feel the need to announce that... just moved on to the next. 🤷🏻♂️

Icon are seriously underrated, lyrically they push boundaries and talk about subjects that we as a society often ignore, or don't fully acknowledge. Depression, anxiety, self harm, the things we're supposed to not talk about because people don't want know about it, are the same things that you will find in their lyrics.
Take the time to hear them, when you listen to them.
It's just a duo now, Shawn and Ariel - the two you saw in the clip. They've got new music as well, which is just amazing.
Now, if only more people were watching this reaction. 13 hours in and we're only at 1700 views? What even is this?

Kickstarter for the fourth album finished recently
Icon For Hire! One of my favorite bands ever that doesn't get enough attention. Here are a couple great ones from them.. "Under The Knife" is one of their best for sure. "Curse or Cure" is one from their new album coming next month.

Glad you discovered them Chase - ever since I found Icon For Hire a few years ago I look forward to every album. They’ve earned a rare spot in my library in that I can - and do - listen to their albums start to finish and enjoy every song.
Only Orbit Culture, Black Crown Initiate, Conjure One, and Tool have ever had the ability to entertain me for an entire album.
'Demons' isn't even my absolute favorite Icon song ('Curse or Cure' now has that honor), but I've pulled it up and played it on repeat on depression days and it really helped me (especially the phrases "get up, move, get your body off the floor," "you didn't come this far just to get this far" and "I promise that I'll be there screaming at you, 'Baby, fight, Baby, fight, Baby, fight!'").
I actually enjoyed this quite a bit even though it's not my usual cup of coffee. I'll have to check out more by them, thanks for the video!
Most of the songs from their "Scripted" album I can recommend for a reaction. I kinda see the band as a guilty pleasure for some reason.

This is great as usual, Chase. Fair analysis for sure. I really like I4H, particularly due to the spunk that Ariel has as their frontwoman.
I wasn't expecting this video at all from you, but I'm glad you looked at Icon! They really focus on their lyrics, and as you said, the music isn't that complicated -- but I like it. It's punchy and fun. They were a lifeline for me a few years ago. I distinctly remember the first time I heard this song because it affected me so much.
This album (You Can't Kill Us) was released in 2016 and it was fully crowdfunded. It was the first album they released after breaking from their record label, so there's a distinct shift in the musical style compared to the first two albums. More hip hop elements for sure. There's a bit of a schism in the fandom over the old vs. new styles, as you might expect. Scripted, the first album, is more rock and electronica elements without the hip hop fusion. The second album introduced a little of the hip hop, but not quite to the level it's at now.
I've seen Hollow mentioned a few times here. It is one of my favorites, but extremely lyric focused and the subject is heavy. Most of their songs address depression, as you may have gathered, but certain songs are really not fucking around.
As far as recommendations for your next song, I'd go with Venom or Supposed to Be. For a look at early Icon, Make a Move is a staple.
Was really into I4H when their second album came out, after the third one dropped I started to fade away. Even saw them on Columbus.

My biggest recommendation is Blackbriar
I really enjoy this band, although they're about as poppy as I typically like my rock/punk music. :D
I think the difference is you can tell that they actually care about their music and the things they write about. Their songs about the self-harm stereotypes of the emo teen scene, and the need for mental health are really emotional, and you can feel they've lived that stuff. "Get Well", "Under the Knife", and "Supposed to Be" are personal favorites of mine in that regard.
She also speaks out against the sexism of the music industry, most notably in the song "Now You Know", which has almost more of a hip hop kind of sound to it. As the song says: "It feels like everyone's a little too interested in the fact females can indeed make music". While we're on that, it's alot of the reason why I've liked your journey with Band-Maid. Too many people are so fascinated by the fact women can make music when they hear them. It's disheartening that seems to be such a widespread mindset.
The only Icon song I'm really familiar with would be "Off With Her Head", which I suppose would be considered one of their early tracks? I like it...upbeat & fun like this track, and a trippy video if memory serves.
Happy Hurts is real good, really relatable. Get Well (the first one) is absolutely my favorite song though.

There's some interesting stuff to them though, they broke off from a label a few years back, still without one as far as I know, to be able to do the music how they wanted. I don't follow them as much as I used to, but they're a fun band, got to see them live in early 2014 before that label split, was a fun show. If I had to pick another song from them to listen to, I'd say Rock and Roll Thugs, its still one of my favorites.

Oh wow! It's been years since we heard Icon For Hire. Found them a long time ago, maybe more than 10 years? Haven't really thought about them, but they had some really good songs back then. Looking forward to this one!
Okay this is really different to what I remember, which isn't much. I don't recall them ever really using synth much at all, so this is a very different feel. Maybe they've changed a lot as a band? I won't deny that they're skilled and it's a good song, but I think it's just not my jam unfortunately. It took me a while to tell what was throwing me off and I'm still not sure, but there might be a bit much synth, the repeated lyrics feel a little off, and the chord progression I think might be just something I don't exactly enjoy. Good song, high energy, just that I'm not a fan of it. Looking forward to hearing more from them.

Hi. Very well. We all love it Nightwish, we all love it Epica. Icon for Hire is also in my audio library. I am an eclectic, I listen to a lot of music genres. It is true that different types of metal predominate in me. It is a genre that is still alive and still brings something new. Thanks to him, I also experience the greatest emotions. Anyone else get a Sumo Cyco feel from this? (Yes, I know Icon for Hire has been around longer, but their sound has changed since Scripted in 2011.)
Not something I'd hunt down but easily something I'd bob my head to if it came on. Pleasant to the ears and would work nicely as the backdrop to an urban action scene.
hmm... hard rock, nu metal and some dance/pop elements.. the style screams the early 2000's mashup.

Chase have you ever checked out Dreamcatcher? They're a unique kind of K-pop group that likes to include rock and metal elements in their songs. Endless Night is by far their heaviest song, think you'll definitely find it interesting at the very least!

Hmm ... sounds incredibly 'american' and commercially driven for my prog/euro ears. In many respects. Decent track analysis. Not my type of tune though.

She's been in that position since she went her own way after creating 6+ highly acclaimed, pioneering and much inspiring albums with them in 2007.
I like a lot more heavier stuff. So this is no for me.
Not my thing. Pure garbage to me. But hey, to each their own.
Not my taste at all, but there is at least SOME talent in there. Ok melody, and catchy chorus. They remind me of someone, someone even more pop. Kinda unique vibrato, unfortunately, it doesn't sound very good. (My opinion) Conclusion: I'm not disgusted by them, but I don't find them interesting either. :-)
